Compiled by Oliver Knill, Department of Mathematics, Harvard University, from March 2006-July 2011. This fun site has dozens of movie clips (well-known and not so well-known) that each reference some kind of math. Knill includes annotation describing the math that is included.

Part of UD's Institute for Transforming Undergraduate Education, this program offers workshops at the K-12 or post-secondary level for how instructors can integrate problem-based learning into their own classrooms. The PBL Clearinghouse, a "peer-reviewed online resource" collects PBL problems and articles. Additionally, the site offers resources including sample syllabi and projects.

"ALM is an international research forum bringing together researchers and practitioners in adult mathematics/numeracy teaching and learning in order to promote the learning of mathematics by adults." The site includes the proceedings from each annual meeting, as well as a newsletter for download.

Posted by George Siemens on his blog elearnspace, September 5 2011. Siemens argues that instructors can't provide "coherence" for knowledge just by "broadcasting" a course. He suggests that coherence is about how "*we* connect information elements and how we use artifacts and narratives to share that coherence." I am interested in the idea of "information foraging," especially in the context of content curation.

Presented on P2PU (Peer 2 Peer University), "a grassroots open education project," this new course on online, self-directed learning is being presented by Anya Kamenetz. In this particular course, participants are directed through the processes of writing a personal learning plan, building a personal learning network, and finding a mentor, all while sharing the process with their fellow learners. Unlike many of the other P2PU courses (which have a more topical focus), this is open to those who want to learn on any subject.

(Print edition forthcoming) This site is an open-access version of a volume of over 300 responses to questions posed by the editors in their social networks. Contributors were allowing only one week to respond. The approach, encouraging interactivity as well as a time limit, and the questions intended to provoke thinking on how digital media and technology can beneficially reform the academy. The editors convincingly state a good case for their choice of the word "hack."

By George Lorenzo, 2011. A renewed interest in community colleges is resulting in looking at driving factors for the future success. This report looks at the potential solutions proposed in papers that came out of The White House Summit on Community Colleges held on October 5, 2010. These include industry partnerships, providing a more well-rounded education with career training, better support services at community colleges,etc. Lorenzo mentions The Learn and Earn initiative, technology with online and hybrid courses, open education resources and other ways to engage students. He looks at college readiness and what Complete College America, a new nonprofit organization, advises as ways to address this shortcoming.

The Learning Network Blog on NYTimes.com. For two years, students, teachers, parents and others have posted and commented on this blog. Daily lessons for subjects across curriculum based on Times content are offered. Suggestions are given for using the The Learning Network posts in the classroom. The Learning Network is accessible without a digital subscription, as are the articles linked from Learning Network posts.

Based in Washington State, the stated goals of this project are: (1) "aligning standards and expectations for mathematics....(2) increasing student success in completing math requirements in high school and college....(3) building capacity of teachers and instructors to align curriculum and instruction to standards....(4) communicating math expectations to students...." The project bridges the high school/college divide.
