Saving computers helps kids, environment | Ipswich Queensland Times - 0 views

  •
The people in this article all take old, used up and bad computers and make them new and better again. They are a non-profit organization who gives the computers back to the schools who are sending them. They are both helping the environment and helping the children learn through the computers that they make. This connects to computers and the environment because the people in this organization are doing what they can to help out by fixing computers, therefore helping the environment by reducing the amount of computers thrown out. My thoughts about this are that what these people are doing is a good thing, though more people should be helping with what they do, however I am not sure if this is a sustainable action, since it takes time and sometimes money to fix computers. I just checked diigo and i didnt put these into the group -.-

Drones help find World War II's missing soldiers - 0 views

  •
The BentProp Project is a group which has been searching for WW2 relics in the Pacific Ocean for the past few years. Some of the things they find is downed aircraft and unexploded bombs, with a side of human remains. Recently they started using robots to create a 3D map of the area of ocean explored rather than towing a side-scanning sonar device behind their boat. Although progress is very slow the team will not give up. I believe that the employment of new technologies to find pieces of the past really interesting and important, especially when it is such an enormous event like the Second World War. This kind of history must be expressed and remembered so we do not repeat the mistakes of the past. I feel like this kind of practice should be continued and funded for the next couple decades

Dash (Android) review - CNET - 0 views

  •
Do you ever want to know the way your cars works or how your driving habits affects your fuel economy? Then Dash is the app for you. However, it is only available for Android and in the US for now. For the app to work, Dash connects with an on board diagnostic that plugs to a dedicated port in your car and uses bluetooth to send data to your phone. Every car made after 1996 can use this app. The app requires an account and a diagnostics dongle. Once Dash is all set up, it will gather data about your car and your driving habits. Every time you start the car, drive around and turn off the car, it counts as a trip. For each trip, you will get a score which measures how safe you drive, and habits such as sticking to the speed limit. When you finish a trip, you get a breakdown of your starting and ending points, the total distance you drove, how long it took you, the amount of fuel used in dollars, and your average fuel economy. Dash also helps with repairs, and has many social features as added extras. New features that are on their way include a way to alert emergency crews that an accident has happened when the airbags are triggered. In my opinion, this app is a must have for drivers especially those who are still learning. With this app, your driving habits can improve a lot with its cool features.

Social Networks Put Police Officers in Danger - Social Business - 1 views

  •
social networking can be very dangerous or even deadly to some police officers and crime scene witnesses. Someone could easily bring up the officers Facebook profiles and find out so much about the person. They could get picture of the officer, the officers friends, and even their family photos. I think that social networking is part of the ways people kidnap these days. that why you always here no to put  your personal information onto the computer, a place were when you put something in, you can never take it back out.

Disney Mobile Japan Announces Two (Cute) Android Phones | TechCrunch - 0 views

  •
We all knew this was coming -  Disney had to reach out to people over the age of eight. Just yesterday, Disney announced the release of two Android Phones - in Japan, that is. The DM010SH will be released in October, followed by the DM011SH in December. The first appears to be based on Sharp's AQUOS 009SH, and the next on the AQUOS 007SH. Special features included on these phones will be disney-themed applications (e.g. calculator, calendar, alarm clock, etc.), and home screens featuring Disney characters. An interesting idea, and one should wonder what would happen if they were to come here.

Watch this: former Nokia exec acquires Meta Watch's connected watch business - 0 views

  •
Looks like business mans might use watches instead of phones. We're making technology a whole lot smaller and much more efficient. If this technology becomes a success Nokia might step up its name and might be able to compete with other big time companies (well slowly). Right now Nokia brands dominates most of Asia and plans to expand along North America.

    Or use phones for watches

Reflecting on Chrome as Browser Hits Third Birthday | Webmonkey | Wired.com - 0 views

  •
Google chrome was launched  3 years ago and soon became one of the most popular web browsers. chrome's amazing design and fairly short development has set hight standards for other web browser vendors. Chrome's transparent update system and channel-based prerelease distribution model are being adopted by Firefox and could eventually be picked up by other browser vendors. After three years chrome remains one of the best browsers in the world and has a bright future ahead.

Facebook Launches Twitter-Like 'Subscriptions', Lets You Share With Unlimited Users | T... - 0 views

  •
So, Facebook has recently lost some followers, in case no one has heard. Today, Facebook announced the launch of another new feature: something called Subscriptions. It's actually pretty basic. You'll notice that some users will have a button that says "Subscribe." If you press that button, you will begin to see the user's updates in your News Feed, like tthey would if you were their Facebook Friend. However, the people you subscribe to don't approve your request, and there's no limit as to how many people can subscribe to a user. It is very much like Twitter and Google+, not to mention a stronger reboot of a feature called Pages, which has been up and running for a while. The plus side: you can choose what is shown publicly, and what is shown only to friends. Interesting to see how users take to this.

The "reduction in workforce" telegraphed by HP a few weeks ago appears to finally be taking place, according to a source inside the company. Apparently the formal emails have gone out and the entire San Diego Software unit is being rolled up. The number laid off is around 500, which tallies with previous estimates of up to 525.

Facebook's Hybrid News Feed Wants You to Pay Attention - 0 views

  •
Why is it that so much happens with Facebook and we rarely hear about Twitter? not two weeks after Facebook launched their shiny, new "hybrid news feed" (deep announcer voice), impressions are down. I don't have Facebook, so I don't know what that is. But it sounds bad. On the bright side, comments are up by 21% and likes by 9%, so Facebook is on the rise again. Good going, Zuckerberg & co.

The title pretty much sums it up. You can now connect your youtube and google plus accounts. I think this will increase the popularity and number of accounts of both youtube, and google plus.

Tireless Samsung Wants iPhone 4S Ban in Japan and Australia - 0 views

  •
Wait, what? Samsung is telling Japan AND Australia to ban sales of the iPhone 4S. Wow. Okay. So, the story goes like this: Samsung's lawyers are saying that Apple is stealing mobile tech. Nothing's happening though, except for Samsung racking up a huge legal bill. Maybe Apple gives some ultimately useless licensing concessions. Just end it, already, Samsung. Just. Let. It. Go.

Can Google's Upcoming MP3 Store Compete With iTunes? - 0 views

  •
Google is coming up with a digital music store to try and compete with itunes. I doubt it can. Itunes is pretty much dominating the market for music. (out of the ones where you buy the music). So far though, they're having trouble getting clearence from music labels because google in the past has been soft of music piracy.

Why Hulu's Owners Couldn't Find A Buyer | TechCrunch - 0 views

  •
Hulu, which has been shopping itself around this year, is no longer for sale. Hulu's owners-Disney, News Corp, Comcast, and Providence Equity Partners-put the online TV site up for bid and got some serious offers from Google, Dish Networks, and Amazon. Even Yahoo supposedly took a look. But in the end, Hulu's owners didn't get the bids they wanted.
