Australian Reptile Park - 4 views

  •
The Australian Reptile Park is a hands-on zoo that runs an exciting low-cost educational presentation for students in Early Stage 1 to Stage 3 titled Feathers, Fur and Scales. The presentation covers topics in the HSIE and Science KLA's including habitat destruction, endangered species, caring for animals, animal food chains, and simple life cycles. Students participate in hands-on experiences of seeing and touching a range of Australian native and exotic creatures including snakes, lizards, turtles, a large Burmese python, an American alligator and a selection of birds and mammals.
  •
The Australian Reptile Park is an active and engaging venue for Primary school students of all stages. It accommodates for school excursions and provides educational activities which can be catered to the ability of the students. As Simone mentioned, with a 'Hands on' approach to learning, the venue provides great opportunity to apply the learnt theory into real life experiences. There is potential for cross curricular integration which can be set up as an entire unit of work. The Australian Repltile park has an engaging website which can be used as a resource for prior or post excrusion activities. Venue workers and trained Zoo keepers and can provide enriching tasks for the students. Themes such as: Flora, Fauna, Environmental Sustainability, Life Cycles ect.. can be addressed to compliment whatever learning is occuring back in the classroom. From what can be seen, The Australian Repltile Park is a great venue for insipring children's desire to learn.
  •
The program that the Australian Reptile Park runs is based on the key learning area of science & technology and the content strand of living world. This venue allows students to interact with animals and create a deeper understanding of life cycles, observable features, habitats and feeding habits. The park has differentiated programs from k-6 and allows for for explicit teaching, guided learning and self-discovery of the key learning area targeted.

NSW Art Gallery - Educational Excursion Venue - 5 views

The Art Gallery of NSW offers a wide range of learning experiences for students across stage groups and KLA areas. The Art Gallery's educational content is so vast that it is not limited to visual arts related learning opportunities. The range of facilities offered cater to variety of learning abilities, including students with special needs and can be differentiated to suit the needs of any student/ student group. Programs are offered such as adventure tours, which focus on student exploration and discovery of visual arts through methods such as role-play and discussion activities where students direct their own learning experiences. Teachers can also choose to direct their own tours of selected artworks to be relevant of what is being taught/learnt in class or to support a specific unit of work study. The Art Gallery of NSW is a practical, hands on learning experience effective of promoting engagement to be transferable to the classroom. It is interconnected with many syllabus items which can foster learning across all stages and KLA's.

The enthusiastic, highly trained professional staff at AGNSW can adjust and adapt their organised tours to meet the learning outcomes which you desire. They provide engaging experiences such as discussions, lectures, films, performances and hands-on practical activities allowing the children to immerse themselves in and express their creativity in a variety of different cultural, social and historical contexts. Majority of the tours are free of charge and provide worldly, unique and rich experiences for children of all ages too enjoy. Rest assured, the children will come away from the gallery feeling inspired and motivated to continue their exploration of creative arts.
  •
The Art Gallery of NSW would be a valuable excursion venue for students of all stages. Importantly, the gallery also offers a variety of options for students with special needs. They have guided sensory tours of selected sculptures and objects for blind or visually impaired students, Auslan interpreted programs for deaf or hearing impaired students as well as specialised programs for students with intellectual disabilities. Teachers can therefore be assured that their excursion is inclusive of these students.

The NSW Art Gallery, located in the heart of Sydney CBD near the Royal Botanical Gardens and is one of Sydney's most culturally valuable institutions. The gallery consists of a variety of collections on constant display including Australian, Indigenous, European and Asian Art which could be be experienced by many stage groups and applied to different KLA's. There are a variety of educational 'Art Adventure Programs' available at the NSW Gallery. Programs include 'Lets Go Bush' which focuses on the Australian Landscape and iconic works by Tom Roberts and Frederick McCubbin. 'Lets Look Back' focuses on History, Wars, costumes and narratives in art. A couple of others include 'Yiribana' which is Indigenous art and 'Arts in Asia'. All these 'Art Adventure Tours' are guided programs that are free and students are arranged prior into groups of 6-7 and each group allocated one of their many expert volunteer guides. These programs run for 1hr for K-6 groups of students and they are based on a 2 way dialogue philosophy, in which open ended questions are posed to students based on what they see and interpret with the artworks. Students are shown a collection of 4 - 6 artworks during their tour. A visit to the NSW Art Gallery is the best way for students to look at original artworks and discover scale, texture and appreciate and respond to different works. They communicate socially with people in the community such as art professionals in a new environment which is engaging and stimulating and exposed to different voices and opinions that make the experience concrete and real. I would recommend the NSW Art Gallery as a valued educational excursion experience.
  •
The NSW Art Gallery offer a range of different hour long Art Adventure Tours all lead by trained volunteers to help support student learning. What is great about these tours; in addition to all positives listed here already, is that they can be modified and linked to the classroom learning if a request is made during the book process. Amazingly these tours are free although booking is absolutely essential to ensure there are sufficient guides available for your group, as each guide can only take 6-7 students.

NSW Parliament House visit - 1 views

  •
An excursion to the Parliament House of New South Wales offers students a curriculum based, educational tour that engages students with the Key Learning Area of HSIE (in particular, civics and citizenship). The visit provides students with the opportunity to learn about parliament procedures, become familiar with democracy in NSW, meet MPs, observe the parliament in action and engage in a role play. This is an excellent venue because it allows students to interact with politics which is relevant to their lives.

Sculpture by the Sea in Bondi - 9 views

  •
Sculpture by the Sea is a not for profit organization that aims to promote sculpture as one of the key visual art forms, it is suitable for K-12. It's a reasonably priced visual arts excursion that is out of class room which is both educative and enjoyable for students. The sculpture by the sea offers the chance for experiential learning where all students can participate with all the processes and techniques used to create different types of sculptures within a unique environment.
  •
This excursion experience not just sparks interest in relation to the KLA of visual arts but also is accompanied and complimented by a beautiful backdrop and location. The ability to appreciate the various pieces of art in a non static and alive learning environment only increases the ability to reflect and appreciate the artists work evermore. For students selecting Art in their upper secondary schooling this particular excursion would act as a influential key to enlighten and heighten their own creative ideas and interests around themselves to explore and research for their own pieces back in the classroom. A very enjoyable thing to do and just another way to help students learn and be inspired outside the usual learning environment.
  •
I agree with timg123's post. Sculptures by the sea do not only rely on the KLA of Visual Arts as it can also be embedded in the KLA of English (where students can write a creative piece about one sculpture). Through this visual experience of art making and art appreciation, students are able to engage with the artists' masterpiece as well as the artists' intentions. Students are able to visualize a variety of different sculptures as well as viewing an unconventional background (Bondi beach rather than an Art Gallery) creating a more enjoyable, meaningful and relaxing experience. Through the artistic views of sculptures, students can write about their 'favourite' artwork from the excursion, by answering scaffolded questions such as 'what did you like/why/what inspired you?' which can be used as an inspiration or even guide for their own future artistic measures in and out of the classroom.

The Royal Botanic Gardens - 1 views

  •
Combining an excursion to the Art Gallery of NSW with a visit to the Royal Botanic Gardens is a fantastic way to satisfy a number of learning outcomes from several KLAs and provide students with a thorough and quality learning experience. The Royal Botanic Gardens offer students an opportunity to increase their understanding and appreciation of plants and the environment through concrete learning experiences. Lesson offered at the Royal Botanic Gardens are given by qualified Trust staff and have been aligned with the NSW Board of Studies syllabus. Teachers can choose a lesson at the Royal Botanic Gardens to complement the activities their students engaged in at the Art Gallery of NSW. For example, the 'Aboriginal People and Plants' lesson would fit nicely with previous exploration and interpretation of Aboriginal artworks at the Art Gallery of NSW.
  •
Building upon Nicola's comment, I believe the Royal Botanic Gardens excursion is a took that could be linked with any KLA, these are some example lessons that could be implicitly taught as pre, post or during excursion activities. - Science could be environment lessons about specific plants and animals - HSIE lessons could be based around the ways aboriginal people connected to their land and what made it special - Maths lessons could be focused around volume, space and angles, even simple counting for earlier years - English tasks could be used where by students use descriptive and colourful language to describe their favourite features of the gardens It is important that teachers research the Royal Botanical Gardens Excursion beforehand so they can get a good understanding of the vast range of activities and options available and select one that is most appropriate. Teachers can also call the contact number and speak with an excursion supervisor to get a greater idea of which excursion focus activity will be most appropriate to their stage and students.

Sydney Opera House - 3 views

  •
Sydney Opera House provides students to experience watching a live performance in one of Australia's most iconic landmarks. Here, students can learn multiple forms of drama, dance or music or can also be given access to backstage previews, which ties in with KLAs such as English and Creative Arts across all stages. Sydney Opera House provides programs for excursions and incursions; whichever you choose to engage your students in, all students will greatly enjoy it and learn a lot from this once in a lifetime experience!
  •
The Sydney Opera House provides programs that directly reflect the New South Wales curriculum. It covers a variety of KLAs especially strands in the physical education unit such as dance, music and drama. The Sydney Opera House provides the perfect opportunity for students of all ages to engage in higher order thinking and creative thinking as live performances expand their knowledge of various elements of each strand. This excursion is not only beneficial to students, but also teachers as it structures excursion programs easily with its informative resource packages. The site itself is already an educational resource, as it is a national heritage site of Australia and would provide students more insight to Australia's greatest wonders.

Art Gallery Excursion - 21 views

  •
The Art Gallery of NSW offers a wide variety of organised tours and activities for students and teachers from K-12. The Gallery provides a wealth of education kits and catalogues for before or later reference and tour guides are highly trained professionals. The excursion could be linked to the Creative Arts and HSIE KLAs quite easily as students have the opportunity to discover the art works, but also the historical and social context in which it was created. Overall it is a lovely excursion that exposes all students to culture.

As Jessica has already stated the Art Gallery of New South Wales offers a variety of organised tours. The 'Lets look back: Every picture tells a story' tour, in particular is a valuable tour for all primary teachers aiming to focus on Creative Arts and Human Society and It's Environment outcomes. This tour focuses on the gallery's Western and European art collections as a means to explore legends, history and culture. The children are also encouraged to form an appreciation for these artworks and engage in discussion during the tours that utilise visual art vocabulary. Furthermore, this tour is provided to school students free of charge and is conducted by highly-trained volunteers who not only possess an extensive knowledge of the gallery and its artwork, but are also trained to work with children.
  •
Another great tour to consider is 'Learning to Look'. This tour is also free of charge and offers a variety of tour guides to assist with the learning experience depending on student requirements. Throughout the course of the tour students are given an extensive opportunity to conceptualise their existing knowledge on learning areas studied (complementing Creative Arts or HSIE) outside the classroom setting through discussion, exploration, activities and role-play. This tour comes highly recommended as teachers are given the opportunity to liaise with the gallery's best point of contact prior to participating in the excursion to arrange for the tour to have focus on outcomes that students have been working on, allowing students to further see the relevance of this trip. A tip?... if you aren't a very confident Creative Arts teacher, this is a great place to consider taking your students to as the tour guides offer great strategies in unravelling an art work heightening ones knowledge or appreciate, you might even learn something!
  •
The wonderful thing about planning an excursion to the Art Gallery of NSW is that the organisers are flexible and adjust to the needs of your program. If you require a focus on a specific culture, topic, subject or art style they will include the request in their program planning. Students visiting the art gallery are encouraged to discuss the artworks and engage with the subject expressed by the artist. The themes and ideas presented at the gallery overlap with several KLAs including English, HSIE, Mathematics and most obviously Creative Arts. An excursion to the Art Gallery of NSW provides an opportunity for students to explore ideas from the classroom in a new and exciting way.
  •
The NSW art gallery offers 'Starting with Art' a tour and workshop for Years K-12. The one-hour free tour is designed to take children on an imaginary journey of adventure and discovery through the Art Gallery. Students are guided through the NSW art gallery's permanent collect and temporary exhibitions. The program additionally provides the students with an opportunity to experience art through motivating and engaging workshops which include role play, the use of sensory material and whole-class discussion. Students are also offered opportunities to create their own artworks with a variety of materials. Overall, a great component of an excursion, teachers can easily incorporate this excursion into a Creative Arts unit of work.
  •
As the previous comments have pointed out the Art Gallery of NSW is a wonderful, educationally rich excursion choice. The art gallery is one of the largest in Australia with other one million visitors a year. Giving students the chance to be one of those one million will be a great privilege for them. The galleries collection consist of art from all around the world, providing a very unique experience for the students. The location of the gallery also very much adds to the excursion experience. The magnificent gallery building is ideally located overlooking sydney harbour, a must see for everyone. A key positive point I noticed on the tour was the use of questioning. This would be great to get the students involved and engaged in the tour. This can also possibly led to higher order thinking by the students, a great achievement the tour guides seem to be striving for. The tour is also great for classroom teachers to experiences as well, giving them a chance to even learn something new themselves.
  •
In addition to providing many historical and contemporary tours of Australian and European artworks, the AGNSW is also a great excursion venue for students studying Asian cultures and languages. Its 'Adventures in Asia' tour exposes students to a wide range of traditional and modern art forms that explore Asian traditions, rituals, belief systems and more. This tour is suitable for all students, (K-6) regardless of whether they have chosen Asian language studies, as it fosters cultural understanding and respect by observing Asia's contribution to world culture. With an increasing number of students taking Asian languages as a second language through school, this tour can also be combined with an 'Asian artist workshop' for a group fee. This workshop provides multiple options such as Japanese or Chinese calligraphy lessons, a Japanese tea ceremony, Indian dance and music, and more. This workshop is a great opportunity to provide students with a deeper insight into Asian cultures and traditions as taught by Asian artists.
  •
The collections of the Art Gallery of NSW are enjoyable fun and engaging for students. They exhibit various styles and numerous and changing social, cultural and political values. The Art Gallery of NSW is much more than just a destination for looking at pictures. It is a place of wide-ranging experience and inspiration, where lectures, films, performances, programs and special events take place. As mentioned in previous comments there is a dynamic set of programs within The Art Gallery of NSW catering for a wide range of students. Collection programs such as The Access Program is a free program that includes guided and sensory tours of the art gallery for students with vision impairment, The Auslan- interpreted discussion tours are provided for students with hearing impairment and a workshop and art tour is run for students with intellectual disabilities. The outreach program is a free program for low socio economic school communities.
  •
The Art Gallery of NSW is a great excursion to take children on. It can incorporate a number of different KLA's in the one day. They offer arrange of activities for school trips such as tea ceremonies and art making classes, combine this with the classical gallery tour it can be very enriching! Children always enjoy this excursion and if they are able to be hands-on with it, it will increase their enjoyment immensely. I urge this excursion will be apart of schools in relation to excursions for years to come. I know that in my days of school i went to the museum a number of times and enjoyed it every time. Especially when we participated in a japanese calligraphy classes. It is not only an excursion for visual arts secondary schooling, it is very appropriate for the primary setting, for example arts, HSIE, english, and languages (LOTE).
  •
This is a popular excursion in K-12 schooling and as the website indicates there are a range of programs to book for excursions for students of all ages and can be applied within many KLAs including CA and HSIE . Most of us as students went on this excursion at least once i know i went twice but i think its such a fulfilling experience for the students. They get the opportunity to see art first hand, they can exercise their analytical skills, their observation skills and get the chance to make opinions about the art they see and even make some art of their own. As the site shows there are tours, workshops - many ways for the teachers to plan an excursion worthwhile for students to engage with art!
  •
The Art Gallery of NSW is an extremely valuable place to take primary school students as part of their Visual Arts study and can also be integrated with other KLA's such as English and HSIE. The gallery offers a range of tours for school students depending on the core purpose of the excursion. The gallery offers students the opportunity to have a first hand experience with original art works, the opportunity to do an audio tour and/or embrace a tactile experience where students experiment with and manipulate art materials. A trip to the gallery is extremely appealing to primary aged students because it offers unique learning experience that is not achievable in the classroom.
  •
The Art Gallery NSW is a brilliant excursion for any stage group and can be linked to a variety of KLAs. The website provides teachers with pre and post excursion activities to expand on student learning, rather than the excursion being a isolated learning experience. The online resources also incorporate not only the Arts, but other KLAs such as English and HSIE, which allows students to draw connections to deeper their understanding on a particular concept or topic.
  •
As per the various postings, the Art Gallery of NSW is an excursion whereby students from K to 12 can benefit from an enriched learning experience that is practical, hands on, informative and most importantly educational. Through my own experience, I was able to learn how easily Creative Arts can be integrated into a variety of KLAs with the Art Gallery reinforcing the knowledge being learnt. . What I like the most about the excursion is the fact that students have the opportunity to engage with volunteers who have an extensive knowledge of the gallery and its artwork and how the use of questioning can keep students engaged and on task. Lastly, as it a free of charge tour it results in keeping the costs down for families and schools, which creates an inclusive community for all.
  •
The Art Gallery of NSW is a terrific excursion for students. The Art Gallery offers various programs to cater for all educational purposes as it can be linked to numerous KLAs. The 'Learning to Look' tour is especially great as an introduction to the gallery, where students have the opportunity to appreciate and interpret a range of artworks. Students are able to develop their knowledge in visual arts through discussion, exploration, activities and role-play.
  •
The Art Gallery offers a diverse range of content for the children to engage with and experience. It gives students the chance to vocally and physically partake in the understanding and appreciation of art as well as making art of their own. The primary school excursion packages that the Art Gallery offers are diverse and extremely well thought out, they cover a variety of KLAs so that children are learning rich content that connects to real life experiences and other areas of their education.
  •
The Art Gallery of NSW offers students both a direct experience with original art and a kinesthetic learning experience. Students develop an understanding and appreciation for art, engage in dialogue, express their opinions and explore diverse contexts. The gallery offers exceptional education tours for K-6 through a wide variety of collections and are free of charge. Some of the paid tours allow children to have a tactile experience and handle materials like real artists which is both engaging and fun. The gallery allows well planned excursions to cover more than one KLA which is great for teachers.
  •
An excursion to the Art Gallery of New South Wales allows students from all stages to actively engage with original works of art, explore contexts and investigate the professional practice of artists. The excursion provides visual, audio and kinaesthetic experiences, allowing students with different learning preferences to enjoy and become immersed in the experience. The unique excursion options cover many KLAs and allow for extensive pre and post-excursion lessons. It provides an enjoyable, educationally valuable and affordable experience to students, while the programs assist teachers in their own Creative Arts lessons, providing unique and inspiring ideas.
  •
As previous posts have already noted, not only can an excursion to The Art Gallery of New South Wales compliment outcomes in visual arts in the classroom, links with other KLAs such as English and Geography are also possible, making the excursion a richer and more meaningful experience. In terms of Geography in a Year 3 Stage 2 context for example, students can view artworks to perceive different communities, countries and cultures in a unique way. The Asian Art collection that the gallery has, can easily support this outcome as well as highlight Australia's relationship with Asia which is becoming increasingly important in the new syllabus.
  •
The Art Gallery of NSW is a great place for excursions regardless of what stage the students are in. The vast range of tours the gallery accommodates for students of various ages studying Creative Arts, but also provide links to other KLAs; such as HSIE or English. The layout of the gallery allows for teachers who wish to do their own tour with their class to make their way around. I would recommend for year 5 teachers to take their students there when they are learning to appreciate art and are learning about Australian Identities. They have great tours for it and activities to compliment the tours available on the website.
  •
The Art Gallery of NSW encourages school excursions from all stages at its venue, as they are aiming to broaden societal appreciation and understanding of art through new audiences. Providing the opportunity to learn and engage in primary experiences in such a public institution can develop students' creative and cultural understanding. The Art Gallery of NSW is very effective at providing programs that are developmentally appropriate and educationally enriching for students. Pre-visit and post-visit programming activities can use the primary stimulus experienced at the gallery and deepen student learning in many Key Learning Areas.
  •
An excursion to the Art Gallery of NSW is a culturally rich and engaging excursion that I think all students would love. At face value it appears to be an excursion that would only appeal to artistically inclined or aware students but I think the tours are sophisticated and adapted for all types of learners and can be adapted to integrate other KLAs, particularly english and HSIE. The Art Gallery gives students a direct experience with original artworks and develops a greater understanding, appreciation and overall enjoyment for art. Students are given opportunities to experiment, manipulate materials and process artworks and make inferences as to what artists are trying to convey; whether it be a mood, emotion, a particular time period or event in history, symbolism, scenery or a social/politcal message. Students are able to use the artworks as stimulus for activities in the classroom later on. Overall a really great place for an excursion that will benefit each and every student in one way or another.
  •
The NSW Art Gallery is a great option for an excursion. It is in the heart of the city and is engaging, interesting, and very informative. The Art Gallery offers a wide range of different excursions from 'Lets Go Bush' which is all about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artworks to 'Adventures in Asia' which is all about the Asian artworks. These excursions are educationally valuable and offer a range of different skills that children can gain. Choosing The NSW Art Gallery as an excursion is a very good choice, as it can broaden the students understanding of art and can integrate many different KLAs, such as English, History, Art and Drama.
  •
The NSW Art Gallery is a good choice of an excursion as it is in the heart of the city and provides students with a rich learning environment while having fun. The Art Gallery offers many different types of excursions, from 'Let's go bush' which involves looking at and learning about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artworks to 'Adventures in Asia' which looks at the Asian artworks. The Art Gallery is a good choice for an excursion as it is enjoyable, informative and can integrate many different KLAs. These KLAs include art, English, history and drama. The Art Gallery is a good choice for an excursion as they are educationally valuable and also a lot of fun.
  •
The NSW Art Gallery provides educational programs and opportunities for K-12 years. They have an exceptional Aboriginal program for all students and cater for yr5-6 students with Aboriginal heritage with a program called 'Djamu'. This allows them to connect with their culture and give them ownership of the gallery. Programs such as these allow hands on experience with local artists and allow all students to develop an appreciation of art, especially Aboriginal art.
  •
The Art Gallery of NSW is a great choice for teachers of all stages and age groups. The gallery provides a range of tours and activities appropriate for all students including programs for students with special needs. As many people have stated in their comments the excursion has many benefits for the teachers as well as for the students. As art is very versatile and interpretive it provides the teachers with the opportunity use resources, knowledge and ideas across many of the KLA's. It is also important to add that art exposes students to a stimulating experience that allows them view the world in new and positive ways. This promotes self-regulation and provides an opportunity to bound with their teachers and peers in sharing an experience and understanding.
  •
The Art Gallery of NSW is definitely an excursion that is relevant for students from ages 5-12 from stages 1-3. Its diverse nature of targeting the various ages through the adventurous tours and activities provided allows all students to be inclusively involved within the tasks. These tours range from providing key concepts and understandings from KLAS of History, English, Creative Arts and perhaps even Mathematics. The various forms of art allow all students to not only appreciate the art but also engage within by making the art through the activity workshops provided as well. Both teachers and students learn from this vast experience explicitly, and is a must to attend to.
  •
Art Gallery of NSW has a variety of programs to introduce the Gallery's collection to students. It has free art adventure tours, introducing students to the Gallery's exhibitions. It includes tours such as looking at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, Asian galleries using storytelling, role-playing and practical activities, contemporary art, and Australian paintings. It also has practical workshop tours such as tea ceremony and calligraphy. There are programs tailored for students with disabilities. All programs have been designed to meet the K-6 syllabus.
  •
Art Gallery of NSW provides a variety of engaging activities for students from K-12. Adventure tours are free and are available for students in K-6 in a variety of different topics to extend students' knowledge. It also provides a free Auslan Sign Language interpreter that can be booked for students with a hearing impairment. The collection exposes students to a range of artworks in varying art forms such as sculptures, paintings and photography. The collection also includes artworks from a range of cultures such as Asian, Pacific, Western, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art. An excursion to the Art Gallery of NSW exposes students to a wide variety of cultures and is an inspiring experience where students are able to gain motivation through hands-on experiences and activities.

Rumbalara Environmental Education Centre | Home - 0 views

  •
Rumbalara EEC provides environmental and sustainability education opportunities for students and teachers within schools and at a variety of field work locations on the Central Coast. Rumbalara is a great excursion for students of all ages from K-12. Rumbalara provides students with hands on activities related directly to units of work from the NSW syllabus in HSIE and science and technology. One example is the need for shelter for stage one students. In the excursion students go on a treasure hunt to find animal shelters, they complete a nest building activity and they also pitch a tent. These activities are directly related to what they have been learning in the classroom. All of the excursions Rumbalara offers relate to both the NSW HSIE and NSW science and technology syllabus. In addition, there are excursions for all stages throughout primary and secondary schooling.
  •
I agree with Michelle. Rumbalara incorporates curriculum outcomes with education that promotes environmental sustainability through a hands-on engaging approach that students of all ages can enjoy. I would recommend this environmental education centre for an excursion as it provides a large array of environmental related fieldwork with helpful knowledgeable staff making the process of creating an excursion incredibly enjoyable. Not only does Rumbalara offer environmental related fieldwork, they also provide students and teachers with resources and new understandings of why the environment is important and what we can do to individually and collectively minimise our environmental impact. The ultimate aim of Rumbalara is to incorporate curriculum outcomes with fun hands-on engaging fieldwork that's flexible to your individual class, with the additional bonus of incorporating what the students learn into an already existing unit of work (or helping you create a unit of work from scratch). I highly recommend this excursion for students of any age as it's an engaging day full of learning, laughter and enjoyment tailored to your exact teaching needs.
  •
This venue could not be more suited for a HSIE or SciTech based excursion for any year group. The Rumbalara Environmental Education Centre provides curriculum aligned fieldwork programs for students from K - Year 12. The venue provides a wide range of hands on experiences where students engage with the natural environment, investigate the elements of dry and wetlands and develop an understanding of their role in sustainability. Supporting and ensuring that our school communities become more environmentally sustainable. The website is extremely elaborate and provides information that not only assist teachers with their excursion planning, but also with follow up learning tasks ideas. The educators are passionate and enthusiastic about the programs they run, each providing a clear overview of the learning tasks, how they link to the curriculum and what outcomes the students will reach. As highlighted above by Sarah, the information and programs offered by Rumbalara are great tools for creating and sustaining a quality unit of work, in either HSIE or SciTech. These excursions are of high quality, there is access for every student and school with many of the programs being able to be tailored to suit the individual needs of the class. I would highly recommend this fun, safe and engaging location.

The Powerhouse Museum is an exceptionally innovative, exciting and interactive excursion venue existing in the heart of Sydney. As Eleanor has mentioned, the Powerhouse Museum caters to all schools needs proposing not only the option of virtual excursions but also self-guided or educator-led programs, workshops or science shows throughout the variety of exhibitions available. Throughout 2013 programs including: Marvelous machines targeting stage 2 as well as the Transport exhibition tour, led by a costumed guide offered for students between stages 1- 3 show the diversity of the museum to adjust school experiences accordingly. Predominately the programs are underpinned by history, science and technologies as well as the vast range of creative arts. This is an extremely entertaining and reasonably priced venue to hold an excursion allowing direct connections with many syllabus outcomes suitable for K-12. Make sure to check out the website for more information!

The Powerhouse museum is an incredible educational resource that can be used to cater to a variety of KLAs, content and skill outcomes. It provides students with the opportunities to interact with objects and collections that range from heavy machinery, historical clothing and items, cultural exhibitions and science experiments. The museum is unique in having multiple simulation exhibitions and experiments such as the Space exhibition that enable students to learn experientially in an authentic environment. As Eleanor and Hayley mentioned the Powerhouse Museum has a wealth of educational resources and programs that ease many of the organisational and implementation burdens for teachers and schools and as time-poor individuals it makes sense to take advantage.

The Powerhouse Museum offers learning experiences for all stages and a variety of KLA's, particularly science and HSIE. The website outlines different forms of excursions (self-guided, educator-led) and ideas, specifying stage suitability. There are a range of permanent and changing exhibitions, a multitude of hands on activities and range of live science shows.

The Field of Mars Environmental Education Centre offers a range of excursion packages suitable to students of all ages, interests and abilities. The excursions vary between more hands-on, adventure and exploration activities to video conferencing allowing for students of all abilities, physically and intellectually. The outdoors activities are particularly valuable for students who otherwise may not be exposed to such an environment, and allows for exploration in a safe location. I recommend this site for excursions linked to numerous KLAs and for all grades.

Donna and Natalie are absolutely right. The Field of Mars Environmental Education Centre offers an extensive variety of both excursions and incursions, all run professionally by the site's own staff. The surrounding landscape is perfect for studying Australian landscape, animals and ecosystems, yet there is also an on site technology centre wherein video conferencing between schools, and building tree-houses for animals occurs. Might I add that the staff are super friendly, so any teacher that was considering an excursion or incursion simply ring the centre, and they will help you find an environmental education experience that is right for your class.

The Field of Mars Educational Centre is an excellent resource for both incursions and excursions, they run a variety of activities which can be done on site or several activities which can be done via video conferencing, which is great for those schools in a more rural location or for special education schools where the logistics of moving about the outdoor bush environment may be tricky. The centre have their own staff whom are knowledgeable and professional while still able to communicate to children of school/high school age. Teachers can even ring the centre for ideas, if they are not yet ready to take their class their for an excursion. They make great use of the environment around them and provide a lot of hands on learning. The excursions and incursions target many KLAs such as HSIE, Maths, Creative Arts, and Science and Technology, with the idea that many of their activities combine a variety of these KLAs. I would recommend The Field of Mars Educational Centre to all teachers looking to add something hands on and educational to their program.

The excursion to Sydney Olympic Park provides multiple hands-on investigative activities for children. The tasks really assist in engaging the children and to consolidating their knowledge about the environment. A popular part of the excursion was the mangrove boardwalk where students have the opportunity to use their senses such as sight, touch and smell to explore the wet environment.

I would highly recommend the excursion to Sydney Olympic Park (SOP) as students can clearly observe and investigate the interaction between the built environment and the natural environment, this links to the HSIE K-6 syllabus. SOP provides students of all ages and stages to participate in investigations which require the student to become an active participant in their learning. Some activities include scooping, observing and identifying insects from large, open containers of water with creatures, exploring the mangrove through the senses, soil testing and water testing. It is a fun an interactive way to get students involved and provide them with a purpose for learning.

I agree with Christina I would highly recommend the excursion to Sydney Olympic to the school I work at. Children have many opportunities to explore and investigate their surrounding environment. The activities are engaging and allow all students to all be involved. The trays of water that were set out while looking at living things was an enjoyable hands on experience. This venue provides an excursion that is curriculum based. It is important that student's learn and think about sustainable management for our future world. Students learn to care for the environment and get to explore at the same time.

Take your students to a unique outdoor classroom at Sydney Olympic Park. Students can look at wet and dry environments and participate in hands on activities while surrounded by an impressive example of how built and natural environments can live together. Free sports equipment (and activity instructions) are also offered for use after the official "excursion" is complete - a great opportunity for kids to run around and enjoy the huge expanses of grassed areas! Be sure to provide bus drivers with very explicit instructions on where to go - whilst there are street signs, it is common for buses to end up in a different part of the park. I agree with the comments made above regarding excursions at the Sydney Olympic Park, where learning truly comes alive through the fun and interactive, hands on outdoor activities in the wet and dry environments organised by their onsite staff. They are educators and are well trained to foster interaction and discussion between students and staff. All Primary School Programs are linked and structured to meet curriculum outcomes in all Key Learning Areas. All programs run, make it possible to integrate Key Learning Areas of HSIE and Science and Technology, adding tremendous educational value to the excursion. Check out their website at: http://www.sydneyolympicpark.com.au/education_and_learning/primary_school_programs for more information and get your students out there for a fun day of learning.

Sydney Olympic Park (SOP) offers a truly memorable experience for both students and teachers. Students are able to explore and engage with hands on activities that promote deep retention of information and concepts. The excursions at SOP are fantastic to either start, use in the middle or to finish a unit of work. It is important to ensure that all students have hats, apply sunscreen before leaving school and have plenty of water available as the excursion is mostly outdoors and lots of walking is done whilst there. The SOP website provides detailed information of the excursions available which link directly to syllabus outcomes. All in all, SOP is a great venue for excursions which students with thoroughly enjoy!

The Sydney Olympic Park offers a wide range of excursions that benefit students' learning in a range of KLAs from primary school and secondary school. The primary school excursions in particular link closely to the outcomes presented in the curriculum. What's helpful is that the guides who run the Sydney Olympic Park school programs are educators themselves. This makes them aware of what is to be taught and achieved during activities. The Olympic Park provides various learning experiences for all students, from hands on activities to virtual excursions. Students' develop observation, evaluation, exploration and investigation skills.

The National Maritime Museum of Australia at Darling Harbour is an ideal location for an excursion.
