"Reimagining a Library Without Printed Books: One Year Later at Cushing Academy" - 2 views

  •
SLJ Summit 2010: Tom Corbett, Cushing Academy on Vimeo - several interesting points, including seeing the library as not so much as the repository, but the portal to books, information and training users in digital literacy, which is a new skill set. I liked his illustration re: what is must've been like when the transition going from the horse-drawn cart and the first automobile took place, and the similarities with print to digital, etc.

RSA Shorts - The Power of Quiet - The intersection of introverts/extroverts - 2 views

  •
"The world is full of noise and those that are the loudest are the ones we tend to follow but what about the quiet ones? Author Susan Cain shines a spotlight on introverts and reveals how over time our society has come to look to extroverts as leaders. Not suggesting that one is better than the other, Susan argues that the world needs an equal space between introverts and extroverts; that an innovative, creative world wouldn't be the same without the two coming together." How can we help students and teachers take advantage of this intersection of introverts and extroverts? How can we effect leadership with these two personality types? via blog post by Fenella Olynick - http://goo.gl/LjcdSh

What's the Big Idea? | Teaching Philosophy through feature film clips - 0 views

  •
Whether or not you realize it, you probably have philosophical discussions with your students. But if you use the term "Philosophy", it would probably be met with blank stares. This website, developed by a college philosophy professor, provides an easy to understand, engaging introduction to philosophy for middle schoolers using FILM. I think it could also be used with high school students and used as a tool for how students could engage each other in a variety of discussions across the curriculum.

How NOT to Set Goals (Why S.M.A.R.T. goals are lame) - YouTube - 0 views

  •
Brendon Burchard talks on how "SMART" Goals are limiting. Instead, why not work on D.U.M.B. goals? A different way to view how to grow and work with an abundance vs. a deficit mentality. Question: How do SMART goals in education limit our work, vision, and enthusiasm?
