      George, Great lesson that tackles an important topic of Internet safety, provides great definitions, resources, and is very clear and focused throughout. Your lesson uses a nice mix of technology tools (Delicious, Google Docs). * Aim/Purpose - Expert: Opening page provides a brief description of the lesson and WHY it is important to learn the concepts. Excellent! * Lesson Plan/Teacher's Guide/ Instructional Plan : Expert: Step by step procedures provided (any instructor could implement this lesson based on the information provided). Appropriate content and tech standards. Rubric is aligned with activities/process. One suggestion: have a downloadable version for teachers to print out. * Student Activity Page: Expert: Activities arranged in a logical order are focused and engaging. Great use of delicious for compiling the required lesson links. Activities are appropriate and aligned with the stated objectives. Nice use of tech tools such as Google docs in the collaborative portion of the lesson. One suggestion: depending on the size of the class, dividing the class into smaller groups to contribute to the Google doc. The way the lesson is described it sounds like the whole class participates in the same Google doc - could get overwhelming with 15 plus students. * Parent Page : Expert: Excellent information provided for parents on how to engage their learners outside the learning environment on a particularly important topic of Internet safety.     This lesson focuses on the importance of maintaining data integrity and Security issues related to computer hardware and software that manipulates the data. Students will identify issues related to security and describe the impact of viruses that come in many forms. Students will perform one focused research activity using Delicious, one using Google, and acollaboration activity using Google Docs.

Lesson Plan/Teacher's Guide/ Instructional Plan: EXPERT - Lesson plan has the necessary content to follow along through the process corresponding with state standards and objectives through the activities. Student Activity Page: EXPERT - The sophistication of this lesson is appropriatly designed for 9 - 12th graders - Activities steps are clear, the rubrics, and provide learners with clear idea of what is expected of them. Parent Page : EXPERT - The Parent page has a helpful tips along with contact information. WEB DESIGN: Layout: EXPERT - Pages are clearly labeled - users can expect what they will find on each page. Appropriate use of white space used to effectively organize material. Navigation: EXPERT - All the links are labeled and open to the appropriate site. Key hot links are found in multiple places. Graphics: MASTERY - Graphics was limited. But when used they were relevant to the topic. Accessibility: MASTER - Due to limited graphic's ALT tags were limited.       I am using andragogy (which is different than pedagogy) to keep this very directed. Under the theory of andragogy (teaching adults), you want to 1. make it relevant. 2. make it direct. 3. make it hands on. My course is set up so that the instructors can work at their own pace, they have a basic explaination of what the technology/program is, how it is relevant to their teaching, and then they have to work through how to use it (with basic prompting). It is set up to be a problem centered real world issue (how to use these tools in their own classrooms) which motivates them to complete the assignments. This is not some "make believe problem" but a real world actual problem which directly involves them.

      Hi Chih. Hi class. This online lesson uses the Wiki platform for the actual course content. It also includes basic image editing software such as paint. It also includes the use of youtube videos which help explain the content we are covering.

      I have run this with my kids school here in the UAE with several of the teachers. They loved how it is laid out and how easy it is to use the wiki (once they understand it). The only real pitfall I can see with it is that by using wiki's, individuals with sight impairment/vision problems may not have universal accessability. The other issue is that RAKESS (the school) currently blocks Youtube videos (it is possible for them to unblock certain rooms, but it is a pain), and that teachertube is NOT able to be embedded into wetpaint wiki's.

    You website, was enjoyable as you are teaching your students the use of some web 2.0 tools, delicious bookmarking and wetpaint. I loved how you incorporated videos to help expalin how to use the web 2.0 toll websites, clever idea. I know sometimes I can read how to do something and be able to get, but a video is always helpful. Then what better way to but a students knowledge to test, then have them use the tools and create things. Great Lesson!

    Aim/Purpose-Expert- Very clear first page, I know what I'm going to learn. Lesson Plan-Mastery- Student Activity Page-Expert-The assignments page clearly tells the students what they will be doing. Parent Page-Novice-No parent page Layout-Mastery- Layout is basic, clear with no frills. The few graphics fit and tend to be links. Navigation-Expert- Graphics are links that lead to other pages and are cited. Accessibility-Novice-Does Wetpaint wiki support alt tags? NOne on my site. Fonts-Expert- Fonts are consistent and do not distract. Background-Mastery- Background is simple and does not detract. Color Choices-Mastery- Very few colors, but does not distract. Spelling and Grammar-Expert- No errors I can see. Copyright-Expert- Very little content needed citing. Extensive use of links to actual web sites. Contact Information-Novice- No authorship on each page except that is provided by the wiki.

    Hi Phil. I noticed on the student evaluation rubric there were not places for N/A. for example in the parents page, I don't teach children, so I don't have a parents page. I think a N/A option there would be good. as for accessiblity... I don' t know that it is novice... I don't think wiki's support alt tags. would that be a better as an N/A also? i did think of creating a whole CSS page for people with screen readers, and having everyone go there first and get the choice of wiki or universal accessability, but it seemed like a lot of work to go through, and then the universal accessability would not be interactive as the wiki's. should I do that? what do you think?

    Will I couldn't agree with you more. The point of this activity was to produce a web-based learning activity which you did very effectively. I think the rubric hamstrings reviewers in to looking for things that may not be as important as the content and organization. So in an effort to try to go along with the rubric, some items get marked low. If I had free reign to assess you work, I'd say it was an excellent plan that hit what students need, it was clear, had great teaching resources and I may come back and do the lesson myself. My only comment would be to add in the introduction what your teaching level is so reviewers have some perspective as to who the "customer" is.

    Self Evaluation * Aim/Purpose - Expert- The entry page states a quick overview and goals of the assignment. * Lesson Plan/Teacher's Guide/ Instructional Plan - Mastery- I realize I should have used the Taskstream Lesson plan builder to make it much more indepth. * Student Activity Page - Expert- This contains multi channel forms of information, videos, links and assignments. * Parent Page - N/A. I don't teach children, but rather adults. As such I don't have a parents page. I do think I should have included a "stakeholders" page for the student, teachers and administrators, but I would have it tied with the lesson plan. * Layout - Expert- I am using wetpaint wiki, and it makes the layout extremely simple and straight forward. * Navigation - Expert- Each page has its own link on the menu page, and all are accessable from any page in the site. * Graphics - Expert- There are only 2 pictures which are for Delicious and wetpaint, but it also includes several sets of videos which help explain the material.. * Accessibility - N/A. This is a wetpaint wiki and as such it does not support accessbility. The issue I have is that part of this unit is about how to use wiki's and delicious... if you make universial accessible css pages, they are NOT interactive like a wiki. * Fonts- Expert- Fonts are consistent and simple. * Background- Expert- Consistent and simple. * Color Choices- Expert- Colors are consistent and simple on all pages. * Spelling and Grammar- Expert- There are no errors. * Copyright- Mastery- All borrowed material is cited, but I don't know if citations are done correctly. I should have a resources page with the citations for the videos. * Contact Information- mastery- Contact information is provided by Wiki on each page but my contact information as the author are not listed, and my creative commons license is not listed.

      George, If I have understood correctly, all the students in the class contribute to the same google document. I am not sure how many you have in each class but could having 15+ learners contributing to the same document get confusing? Is there a reason you didn't break them into smaller groups?

      George, Overall, I love the lesson. It is teaching an important point about system security which has practical applications that are easily extended outside the classroom. I thought your use of Delicious was great. I tend to have them compile links in Delicious - why not use the tool for compiled resources to support the lesson - good thinking. These can easily be used and added to for further lessons.

    Ramsey, Great job! The lesson was really great and I enjoyed how you took the time to teach the students how to use the Web 2.0 tools. This is such an important lesson for students today. Aim/Purpose -- The introduction lays out the objectives of the lesson very well - Expert Lesson Plan -- Link to the lesson plan is included and it works - Mastery Student Activity Page -- The student activity pages describe specific learning activities in age appropriate language as well as including flash videos. Copies of grading rubrics are available. - Expert. Parent Page -- Parent page includes creative ideas for engaging students at home as well as the FERPA laws and the rubrics to help the parent encourage their children at home. - Expert Layout -- The web page is very nicely laid out and the white space is used very well. The graphic element at the top enhances the page, and the use of the note page is placed well and very helpful for a quick idea of what the student will learn in the lesson. - Expert Navigation -- All links are clearly marked and go where you expect to go. Some of the links did not work. - Mastery Graphics -- The graphic included relates to instruction, --Expert Accessibility -- Images do not have ALT tags. Lessons are described appropriately. She includes a link to be in either a flash version of the lesson or in a text version of the lesson. - Mastery Fonts -- The use of fonts is consistent and easy to read.     I double checked - using view source to verify the presence of ALT tags - they are there. ALT tags are designed to show when the image does not - my images load up just fine so you won't see the ALT tag unless you view the HTML source.

      I feel that my use of auditory, visual, and interactive forms to present the lesson materials coincides with not only enhancing the EFL learners experience with the lesson by providing greater exposure to the target language but also fulfilling universal design principles. Combining the ways the lesson is presented makes the lesson accessible to those with particular special needs or learning styles. The lesson is very much structured in the constructivist frameworks of inquiry based and project based learning as learners produce a final product through the process of investigation, discussion, collaboration, and reflection. The lesson provides instruction on how to begin the process and provides adequate scaffolding in the form of videos, supporting links, and discussion forums with both instructors and peers. However the route the learner takes is up to them. An important element of the lesson is that learners choose their own topic. I initially had structured the lesson around animal rights with three possible questions for investigation. However, upon reading related literature which revealed that activities were more successful and learners got more out of them when they pursue their investigation on a topic of personal interest (Clark, 2006).       I have included wikis, discussion forums, and the social bookmarking tool Delicious. The wiki was chosen for its capacity for editing. Given that a large part of the lesson is about peer editing using a wiki was a logical choice. Wetpaint wiki was specifically chosen given the integration of the discussion forum which is used throughout the lesson. Discussion forums were used to get learners thinking about the concepts of the lesson and to build rapport between learners prior to the editing process. Another element of the lesson requires learners to research out information on the Internet and reference those sources. Delicious was chosen because it allows learners to easily keep all the sites they have found in one place and to share resources. Though it was suggested to use Diingo for learners to leave feedback during the peer edit portion of the lesson, I opted not to introduce another technology tool such as Diingo fearing that the lesson would be more about the learning of new technology tools and less about the actual goal of the lesson: writing.

      To add to the explanation of why Wetpaint was chosen the ability to add templates to new pages permitted me to integrate the peer edit form directly into a wiki page. This alliviates the need for learners to download and print the form, if for example they do not have access to a printer. Additionally it allows learners to simply switch between pages to view the comments left to them by their peers.

      Ramsey, Thanks for reponses! I think you made good chocie on tools. Have you used other wiki tools? Personally, Wetpaint is an effecitve one because it has RSS, tagging, and connected to iGoogle features etc.

      I have used pbwiki which I think is a great wiki for those who may be indimidated by the multiple tools available on Wetpaint. pbwiki is extremely straightforward to use. However, for this lesson I need those 'extras'. I even thought about uploading my flash presentation to youtube then embedding them directly into Wetpaint. However, I opted to leave them within the lesson webpages. I didn't want to overcrowd the class wiki with the lesson and keep it solely for the learners work. This is in part due to the limited number of pages Wetpaint permits per site (50 I think). Another reason may be the limited customization permitted with Wetpaint. For example with many blog templates you can customize the CSS page. So far I haven't figured out how to with Wetpaint.

      I forgot to mention - with Wetpaint I was able to register the site as an educational site to have the ads taken off the pages. I petitioned and within a day I received a confirmation telling me the adds are gone. This is a great way to keep the site appropriate for use in K-12 and with all learners as their mind stays focused on the materials presented in the text and not be distracted with the ads.

      I think it is effective, its success cannot be known until it is put into action. However, I feel that I have created an interactive lesson that guides learners through the process of writing an effective essay. The lesson provides many supports including useful vocabulary, links to grammar exercises, video demonstration of all the technology tools, and discussions to share their experiences and discoveries throughout the process. The lesson engages learners not only in discussions but also in the process of peer editing. From an instructor's viewpoint the lesson plan is very detailed with a step by step process of how to implement the lesson. The lesson flows in a natural progression starting learners off by introducing them to the technology tools and providing an explanation of why they need to learn them, stepping them through the writing process and components of a 5 paragraph essay, and then providing support in how to proofread, edit, and finally publish their work. Potential pitfalls may include the lack of access to headsets or speakers for learners to benefit from the audio portion of the lesson. Students may also find working with new technologies intimidating. However, I believe that I have made a good attempted to break the lesson into smaller 'bit sized' pieces so that learners can fully comprehend one step before moving on to the next. The inclusion of identical text-based lessons, I felt, were also important for those learners who either do not have flash installed and for some reason don't want to install it or for those who prefer a traditional text format. Overall, I think I have constructed a theoretically sound lesson that supports learners while permitting them the freedom to discover in their own way.

      Other pitfalls: despite my great effort to provide audio and visual documents for learners with specials needs - depending on those needs their contribution to the peer-editing task may be limited. On this same note, having learners edit each others paper directly in the wiki 1) helps them to visual see within the direct context of the paper errors and corrections but 2) coming from a peer may not necessarily be accurate - this is where instructor guidance is key. Furthermore, learners will need to "clean up" their text before final publication. This could however, help to reinforce areas they need improvement. That is to say the act of going over each correction may provide a needed step in remembering.

      Chih, Is there a reason why when I hover over the graphics in the site they don't reveal the ALT tag I have included? If you view source - the alt tags are there - but no coming through?? Any ideas?

      I think that anytime students are able to explore different sites on the internet that they learn. My students have ot do research on the internet. This is effective because they can cross reference their information on more than one site. My students have to make a Powerpoint presentation. This is effective becuase its an assessment tool that gives student the opportunity to be creative.

      I think that my lesson plan is successful. My students will obviously get the interaction and background in the classroom so that the project is less confussing. I think that if they only went off of the web sites that there would be greater confussion.

      When students are able to bounce ideas off of the teacher they get clarification on the items that were unclear. I make sure that my students who need extra clarification or simplified directions get it. This way I can also walk the students through the steps one at a time if needed.

    Great work!! Your project fits well in a 3rd grade classroom and it is a topic students will be very interested in. The graphics are a bit large and take away from the layout at times, but other than that great work!! Aim/Purpose-Expert Statement explains why they will be doing this project in a direct statement. Lesson Plan/Teacher's Guide/ Instructional Plan-Mastery Lesson plan included in full, loads properly! Student Activity Page-Mastery Direction page is to the point, but the corresponding activity pages lack details at times. I could not tell what the 3D animal was or how to do it. If other teachers wanted to use this project it may be confusing. Parent Page-Mastery This page makes the suggestion to Google the animal with child- no other "support" really offered. Layout-Mastery The layout is good and very usable. There are some graphics throughout the project. Navigation-Expert The navigation bar is very helpful. Allows the user to move freely from page to page. Links open in a separate page which is great! Graphics-novice I do not see reference for the pictures used.       Indirect Study (ID) is very effective in the use of this project. The student can learn and review at their own pace and the instructor takes a back seat becoming a facilitator, supporter, and resource person. The student takes on the responsibility for their learning experience, and sets their own pace, and depth of study. This type of learning process is key when the learners are in their clinical settings. Independent Study (IS) is another effective strategy used in this application. Students are asked to review the content at home. Learners are purposefully provided opportunity to foster the development of individual student initiative, self-reliance, and self-improvement. In nursing clinical(s) such developments are required to become functional as a nurse. Direct Instruction also applies in the context of this project, as the selected websites, provide step by step instructions of where to listen and what is being heard by the learner. The repetitive methodology of this allows the learner to have modeled what they need to achieve. Most of the physical side of nursing is repetition until appropriate skill is achieved, be the techniques of starting an Intravenous site, or diagnosis of normal verus adventitious sounds.

      I do not have a true discussion board assembled for this project. There is a Wiki based response area suggested for each page all connecting main pages, (not links), for comments and questions about the page. There is direction on the learning activities page for participants to dialogue on learning experiences and concepts. I added a Diigo book-marking page under the same name as the web site. As an overkill in the book-marking I also placed a link to delicious. At current retrospect I have probably set up to many locations to blog or chat.

      To a point of showing students stethoscope placement, and giving a very basic auditory demonstration of what some anatomical sounds are, I think the lesson is okay. Certainly having so many places for students to write comments to would make tracking questions difficult. Futuristically I would use a better program to generate a web page, that better directs and limits wiki discussions, or blogs. With development of skill in using a web creation program I could greatly improve my project. I think a curriculum construction course would also be greatly helpful in understanding how to put it all together for proper presentation to all.

      Another thought that just came to me it that the required textbook pages need to be a PDF and available on line. In the context here, I do not have the ability to create PDF, so I did not pursue it. I also believe I would have needed to obtain some permission of it use, so that also detered me from a possibly greatly improving piece to my project.

      It is correct to have many places to have sutdetns to comment is difficult for instructors to track. Consider to have some management tools, such iGoogle to manage all tools we use. Using Web 2.0 tools and not use management tools could be difficult for learning and teaching.

      I had not thought of it, adding gadgets would make some features really "cool" as the saying goes. I liked some of the youtube features others have, i am not sure what exists for nursing that would be appropraite. I need to look into it!

The content is well out of my range of knowledge but I particularly like how the lesson is very focused on one main objective and engages learners in experimentation and discussion which directly links to their readings and in-class work. Well done. * Aim/Purpose - Expert : very clear and focused purpose to the lesson. * Lesson Plan/Teacher's Guide/ Instructional Plan : Page contains appropriate content and technology standards. Somewhat brief explanation of lesson. Couldn't find a link to download a printable version. * Student Activity Page: Activities arranged in a logical order and included the required links (which worked) to the activity. Q and A discussion forum established to provide support to learners. * Parent Page : No parent page included and as the lesson is designed for adults it would have been inappropriate to include a parent page. * Web Design - Chose basic design within the Wetpaint Wiki templates. * Layout - layout is simple and non-distracting - keeps learners focused on the content. * Navigation - easy navigation with appropriate pages available on the left and a link on each page back to the main page. * Graphics - are appropriate and have alt tags, however, could not find references to the graphics. * Accessibility - no apparent issues with accessibility. * Fonts - are consistent throughout with larger font sizes and bold used to designate headers. * Background - the dark green background made some of the links disappear on the page. * Color Choices - some of the links appeared as light green which was a great choice for the dark green background but most of them appeared as the standard blue and were difficult to read. * Spelling and Grammar - no apparent spelling or grammar mistakes * Copyright - at the top of each page author provides information on the intent of the lesson for the Phoenix College Nursing. * Contact Informat

    Well it is a start for this digitally devided old dog. I have quite impressed by others I have seen, (one on Chocolate, and another on the Oregon Trail) and can only hope to develop like skills with similar programs. Thanks!
