Today we celebrate Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday and legacy as a national holiday. I would like to use this occasion to reflect a little bit on one part of Dr. King's dream and how far we have come toward accomplishing it.

A white male and female are attacked by a group of black men. I find the actions surrounding this interesting. One of them is how the newspaper employer of the two attacked didn't publish the story till 2 weeks later.

I am interested in this story as well. The definition of a "Hate Crime" is hotly debated. I was origionally invented to protect minorities who were persecuted, so the idea that the majority (white people) could be vitctim to it does not necessarily fall withing its boundaries. O'Reilley does some interesting things rhetorically here. He makes a lot of assumptions and inferences but does not provide facts. He assumes he is talking to an audience who agrees with him. He implies people of color get special treatment and white people are victims of this under the guise of saying everyone should get equal treatment. He fails to note that people of color do not receive equal treatment under the law. This is a crucial difference between positions on the political spectrum. I think what is most appealing about O'Reilley's rhetoric is that he says he just wants justice for everyone. A great article to talk about!! Thanks for the post Katelynn.

I thought this was kind of funny and shows the political correctness extremes in America.

To me this shows that the equity training was not done correctly and perhaps the "Corageous Conversations Program" needs some more work.

We often think of voting demographics in terms of "minorities," which makes groups of "white voters" an invisible norm. This article asks the question of why white people are proportionally voting for Romney.

This article is a very short article but I found it really interesting because it kind of goes along with the Border Patrol article that we just read. In the article it described how Border Patrol agents are trained to use lethal force and this news story puts that idea into plain view because no one truly knows what happened and if this was a case of racism or something else.

Nice Job Sarah--it also shows the continuing nature of the conversation on immigration--one that is at the forefront of politics in this election year.

We often don't see a lot on how Asians fit into the US culture and the battles they face although we should. Here is an artlicle on how ballots are being translated into Asian languages for the up-coming election.

The part that bothers me here (among many things) is the line where the mans says "I know how to build a noose." Anyone want to comment on this article? I also have a weird feeling about people getting upset about a chair in a tree. But then there is the context of the Eastwood speech and the guy's claim that he was just "Eastwooding" it. All kinds of problems here...
