The author states that music and reading are essentially learned the same way. He provides evidence by breaking down the learning process and comparing the music and reading skills. Though music can be beneficial to reading, Chappell warns that music still needs to be it's own course.

The author believes that music not only helps children learn to read but also to love it. Her process includes teaching the children a tune, then lyrics and finally giving them the written lyrics to read. She states that children have a disposition to rhyme and melody which makes singing and music the perfect tool.

Todd and Variyum research the use of nutritional labels. This study finds that numbers have gone done from 1995 to 2006, in how many people read the nutritional facts labels on foods. They concluded that the majority of this decrease was from people 30 and younger. This source was very valid becuase it comes from the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) and has reputable sources.

not necessarily an article but it is a guide to help you read the nutrition facts. I wanted to bookmark this so that I could refer to it at sometime possibly, and others may be interested to see it.

Signal and team explore New Zealand and the low-income inhibiters. This study used focus groups to question 158 shoppers. They concluded that many did not have time to read the labels or did not have the understanding to do so. This study was well organized and had useful conclusions. Also its background was informative, and the study itself added that people of New Zealand lack education to read the nutrition labels, it is not just in the US.

This article shows the average comprehension of preschool students. This is important because it gives a base for my research. In order to see the affects of educational television I need to know how normal preschoolers literacy is without these types of shows.

This article by Margaret Mackney discusses literacy of teenagers based on the television series 'Felicity.' By doing this, she is able to evaluate the complexity of literate behaviors. In addition, she talks about the importance of understanding the values on literacy development and the theoretical and practical implications of understanding the literacy of teenagers.

David Natharius, in his article The More We Know, the More We See: The Role of Visuality in Media Literacy, he talks about how the role of literacy is vital in understanding the change from literacy to visually. All of which can be seen in television, film, and Internet.

This article was a study done to test weather random participants would shop healthier after given education on reading labels. The results showed increases in three of the nine food groups but untimately the increases were not significant enough to conclude anything. This study was short but had references so it is reputable.

This piece works specifically with the sociological reasons behind literacy and television. It examines who reads, how they read, how reading relates to electronic media, especially television and the Internet, and the future of reading.

In the article by Annie M. Moses, she talks about how television plays a vital role in so many young children's lives. Her studies showed that there were messages in children's programs. Even though it is a longer piece, it shows a very excellent case study to prove her point.

This source was an article about the Nutrtion Labeling and Education Act. This act was passed in the 1990s. The article addresses the background and purpose of the act and how it changed food packaging. The study itself is done in three parts evalating field study, lab study, and longitudinal data. This article was very informative as far as the field study. They observed and questioned grocery shoppers. The information was from 2002, so it is slightly dated.

Study done on mostly white UK households aimed to achieve goals. Compares three dietary survey mehtods and identifies which method is valid and acceptable in the UK households. This source helps vilidify surveys. It is slightly off from my focus topic but is helpful in confirming certain other tests.

This article was a study that examined nutritional education, label reading behavior, and compared these answers with age, sex, education level. The study was aimed to test label reading in correlation to previous nutritional education and knowledge level. This source had good statistics in the introduction. The paper may have been alittle off my topic but did have useful conslusions on to who reads the nutrtional labels. The test was mostly women, undergraduates, and nonsmokers, so may have been bias in people being studied.
