This article is concerned with what it may mean to individuals to engage in practices that are physically challenging and risky. The article questions the assumptions that psychological health is commensurate with maintaining physical safety, and that risking one's health and physical safety is necessarily a sign of psychopathology. The research was based upon semi-structured interviews with eight extreme sport practitioners. The interviews were analysed using Colaizzi's version of the phenomenological method. The article explicates the themes identified in the analysis, and discusses their implications for health psychology theory and practice.

Paula Bone discusses the relationship between several aspects of the mortgage process. She discusses that the more well informed the consumer is, the more likely he/she will have a better relationship with the mortgage company, and become more satisfied with their purchase. Also, she discusses the other side of the transaction. The more likely a mortgage company is to engage in immoral practices, the more dissatisfied the consumer will be with their loan. This is an interesting way to look at the mortgage crisis. It correlates to my point of the need for financial literacy in high schools. If people were more cognizant about their mortgages, they would be more likely to catch a mistake and be happier with their loans.

In this article, the relationship between literacy practices and spatiality is explored in the context of family literacy. The article draws on fieldwork in family literacy classrooms as part of two evaluations in Croydon and Derbyshire of family learning provision. Methods of evaluation included classroom observations in rural and suburban locations. In addition, teachers and parents were interviewed. In this instance, family learning included literacy and language activities with parents and children in school and nursery settings. These were learning spaces where parents and children collaborated on joint projects including book making, storytelling, the making of visual artefacts and reading and writing activities. The research revealed how family literacy classrooms could be understood as 'third spaces', between home and school, offering parents and children discursive opportunities drawing on both domains.

Washington Commentary states that the lowest percentage of young adults (18-29 years of age) participated in the national elections for 2000. Several reasons influence the decisions of these young adults: parental focus and attitude, below proficient levels of understanding, and comprehension in history, social studies, and civics classes, and lack of practice or experience in political engagement. Although the article is informational, the content does not lead itself to the particular point of interest.

This article by Margaret Mackney discusses literacy of teenagers based on the television series 'Felicity.' By doing this, she is able to evaluate the complexity of literate behaviors. In addition, she talks about the importance of understanding the values on literacy development and the theoretical and practical implications of understanding the literacy of teenagers.

Through out the article she explains how through music based activities, positive attitude and affect, listening comprehesion, and oral and pronunciation practice helped her students become bilingual.

In this article, Feazell explains the RAP system. The system is used by many special education programs to enhance reading skills. The system is based on Phonemic awareness training, Dictation, Phonics readers practice, Fluency training, Eliciting positive emotion, Assessing. This program advocates a different approach, creating an array of unusual challenges to assess brainpower and positing an argument for the interplay of multiple intelligences. Assisted by the insights of Harvard's Howard Gardner and experts using brain scanning technology at UC Davis' M.I.N.D. Institute, the program brings together a group of obviously bright and talented people and presents them with trials of all shapes and sizes. The results establish the validity of measuring not just what people know but also the equally important ways in which they exercise their practical, creative, emotional, and kinesthetic IQs. Bryan discusses how practical steps that healthcare providers and executives can implement to enable health literate communities can provide several solutions to solve the health literacy crisis. A team effort, use of standardized communication tools, plain language, and educational materials are suggested. Because the health care providers are instrumental in reducing low health literacy, policies that include solutions that are easy to implement to enable health literate communities are necessary. Bryan makes useful suggestions for providers and policy makers which seems plausible.

Weiss discusses the scope of the health literacy problem, the barriers faced by patients with low literacy, and methods to foster verbal and written communication in low literacy patients. Low literacy is pervasive in the U.S. and causes an unnecessary financial and health burden. Because of the complicated health literature, most patients have inadequate understanding of what is said, and simple strategies can alleviate low health literacy problems. Weiss makes interesting and provocative points, but much of his observations are based on his medical practice.

The author discusses several topics, focusing mainly on student athletes and their performance academically. He offers a few useful methods for athletes to improve academic performance and achieve success in the classroom. He argues the importance of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and its newest provisions added to improve the academic requirements for student athletes at all universities. He offers practical information, relevant for this study while also making intriguing and stimulating points necessary for his research.
