The revelations that Obama administration secretly collected phone records and accessed the internet activity of millions of Americans have raised new questions about the public's willingness to sacrifice civil liberties in the interests of national security. Since 9/11, Americans generally have valued protection from terrorism over civil liberties, yet they also have expressed concerns over government overreach and intrusions on their personal privacy.

In this article it demonstrates how establishing school uniforms is a breach of the first amendment. Is it a pro or con on our society and if it is better for the environment are not always thoughts that the parents have.

Some schools believe that wearing uniforms had reduced rates of gang and violence. However, some parents, and the American Civil Liberties Union, believe that requiring uniforms violates civil liberties.

In a New York Times article, author Adam Liptak details the change in law enforcement priorities to preventing terrorist attacks over punishing crimes after they have been committed and how this may be an infringement on our freedom of speech. After the September 11th attack, surveillance of religious and dissident groups and informants in Muslim groups caused early arrests as "material support," in support of terrorist organizations. Simply talking to a terrorist group, even urging these groups to resolve disputes through peaceful means, is considered committing a crime.

This website advocates for human rights for inmates.  Specifically, the site discusses the need to insure humane treatment of prisoners and the prevention of cruel and unusual punishment, such as the overuse of solitary confinement.

Under equal protection, same sex couples should have the freedom and support to marry their loved ones. Religious faiths that are opposed to the idea are free to not support the couples. Under DOMA each state was given the right to define marriage.

If same sex couples meet the set forth requirements to be a common law couple they should be able to marry and be treated equally.

Provisions of DOMA were recently struck down which gave same sex couples equal protection under federal laws. A recent development that's getting little attention is churches are changing their bylaws to protect themselves from lawsuits by the LGBT community. The bylaws are taking up where DOMA was struck down, declaring the church only recognizes marriages between a man and a woman.

People should be free to follow their own beliefs without interference. this article also discusses the issue of expression of religion and public schools.

ACLU'S trying to defend the first amendment and allow people to have more control of their personal information. The country has always struggled with freedom of expression, especially if it opposes government beliefs.

The National Defense Authorization Act allows the armed forces to detain any person that he/she feels has committed an aggressive act. The NDAA violates out 5th amendment that allows no person to "be deprive of liberty, or property, without due process of law.

If your a career criminal or terrorist you should be detained.

A boy attending Wolcott High School, by the name of Seth Groody. The American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut sent a letter to the high school principal which said that Seth had to remove his anti-gay t-shirt.

this site explains freedom of speech and what laws restrict our freedom. The ACLU is an organization that has been around since 1920 keeping our freedom of speech as open as they can. It is a great site that shows all kinds of freedoms.

People are being discriminated by others because of the person they choose to be with the rest of their life. Laws are trying to be past to allow them to be together.
