Redefining Marriage Has Consequences - 2 views

  •
This article talks about how marriage is the foundation of human civilization and the effects of redefining marriage. Forty-one states agree that marriage is between a man and a woman and children need a mother and a father.
  •
My personal belief is that marriage is to be between a man and a woman, however, I also believe that is it not my place to judge anyone. Who am I to tell someone who to love? These days marriages that last are rare. If a same sex couple love each other and are happy together, I think they should be able to be married. There are a lot of same sex couple who have lived together as couple for a lot longer than most marriages last.

When I read "The nine justices are considering challenges to state and federal laws defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The two cases before it provide an important opportunity for Americans to reflect on three questions: What is marriage? Why does it matter for public policy? And what are the consequences of redefining marriage?" it blew my mind a little, because it is challenging every American to think about marriage. Not just as a sex (male or Female) thing but as a whole.

Libertarians And Gay Marriage - 0 views

  •
With the help of libertarians New York was the largest state to legalize same sex marriage. New York is only the sixth state to legalize same sex marriage. Many power officials were reprimanded for speaking out against same sex marriage. Same sex marriage has also affected some religious adoption agencies. A catholic adoption agency has been reprimanded for refusing the adoption to a same sex family.
  •
This article shows how the Libertarian party has very conflicting views regarding same sex marriage. On one hand, same sex marriage corresponds with the Libertarian motto. On the other hand, however, many Libertarians are torn between their party's motto and what they inherently believe to be "true marriage."

The DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act), which prevents federal governments from recognizing same sex marriage and allows each state the choice to do so as well, has been found unconstitutional in eight federal courts with two court appeals.

Gay marriage talks about both legal issues and social argument issues. Legal argument grab more attention because they involve civil and equal rights. Gay marriage should respected, no matter if people don't like the fact of gay marriage. People believe that gay marriage is harmful, but there is no prove. There are good reasons to legalized gay marriage because it would benefit us all.

There is obviously more benefits for gay couples to be legally married. I think everyone should be happy and that there should be no law to say otherwise. If gay couples are allowed to get married not nly does it help them but also for the people around them.
  •
I am all for gay marriage. I think if a couple is happy with one another then let them be happy. There are many benefits to being married and I think they should be allowed to get married.

Why Gay Marriage Is So Controversial in America - 0 views

  •
The article discusses the reason behind the gay marriage and why its so controversial right now. It stays that same sex marriage futher threatens the American's religious rights. "The "sanctity of marriage" will be further undermined if the institution is open to "profane" homosexual unions. Unlike many American conservatives, liberals tend to regard marriage primarily as an expression of love and commitment, often taking God out of the equation. "

Same sex marriage - 0 views

This is one of the largest growing controversies in the United States. We have a lot of stubborn and close-minded people in this great nation. We all just need to open our hearts a little and accept these people and try to realize where they are coming from. They just want to be able to be happy like anyone would; and be able to marry the one that they love. People say it goes against tradition, and what marriage is valued as...between a man & woman. There are so many traditions that have been changed or forgotten in this day and age, and I am sure that letting these people marry who they want and where they want, isn't going to lead to something horrible. I think that some of us just need to really be educated and try to feel for these people who just want the opportunity to solidify their love for one another with Marraige.

This is an article about same sex marriage showing how still today people are fighting for the right to marry whom ever they choose man or woman. As State after state seem to slowly gain support and pass the law allowing same sex marriage there are some who still chose to not let go and favor an amendment to the United States Constitution to forbid it. This is one subject that tends to divide this country.

Marriage for Same-Sex Couples | American Civil Liberties Union - 1 views

  •
Under equal protection, same sex couples should have the freedom and support to marry their loved ones. Religious faiths that are opposed to the idea are free to not support the couples. Under DOMA each state was given the right to define marriage.
  •
If same sex couples meet the set forth requirements to be a common law couple they should be able to marry and be treated equally.
  •
Provisions of DOMA were recently struck down which gave same sex couples equal protection under federal laws. A recent development that's getting little attention is churches are changing their bylaws to protect themselves from lawsuits by the LGBT community. The bylaws are taking up where DOMA was struck down, declaring the church only recognizes marriages between a man and a woman.
