This site is an introduction to many of the aspects of technology change that will impact education in the next few years.     This is a link to the full-text research article authored by Glenda A. Gunter, Robert F. Kenny and Erik H. Vick. The title is "Taking educational games seriously: using the RETAIN model to design endogenous fantasy into standalone educational games". The authors argue that for educational games to be effective, a new design paradigm needs to be utilized. They recommend the RETAIN design and evaluation model. The article is published in Education Tech Research Dev (2008) 56:511-537 and the DOI is 10.1007/s11423-007-9073-2.

    An awesome resource to share with students! As a teacher I regularly refer to Bloom's Taxonomy when I am planning or developing questions for my students to ponder and respond to. This resource provides a great explanation of the thinking processes that the learner should experience at each of the levels in the taxonomy. The chart offers sample questions in very student-friendly language. This will be helpful as I encourage my students to stretch their questioning and thinking from the knowledge level through the higher levels.

    Great article about an emerging piece of technology hardware. It made me wonder about the new types of hardware and software we will be using in the near future. The "Day Made of Glass2" video is about 6 min. long and worth watching. I saw the original "Day Made of Glass" video in 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Cf7IL_eZ38 (also about 6 min.) The 2nd one is great because it shows how students and teachers can use the new technology. Enjoy! :-)

Integrating technology into K-12 teaching and learning: current knowledge gaps and reco... - 0 views

    Although research studies in education show that use of technology can help student learning, its use is generally affected by certain barriers. In this paper, we first identify the general barriers typically faced by K-12 schools, both in the United States as well as other countries, when integrating technology into the curriculum for instructional purposes, namely: (a) resources, (b) institution, (c) subject culture, (d) attitudes and beliefs, (e) knowledge and skills, and (f) assessment. We then describe the strategies to overcome such barriers: (a) having a shared vision and technology integration plan, (b) overcoming the scarcity of resources, (c) changing attitudes and beliefs, (d) conducting professional development, and (e) reconsidering assessments. Finally, we identify several current knowledge gaps pertaining to the barriers and strategies of technology integration, and offer pertinent recommendations for future research.
