In the old days, it really mattered what went on your résumé or what degrees you had. But increasingly, people are measured by the footprint they leave on the Internet.That whole notion of portfolio-based credentialing - you're showing your actual work - is a big part of how social media affects education. Schools need to say, "Our output isn't just the transcripts; it's a body of work."

Most of the time, kids know more than their parents about the internet. It's important to protect our kids from the dangers that lie within internet usage. Great advice I will give to my parents at Technology Parent Night!

One more website I use from time to time. Internet4classrooms is a great site because you can find your topic and grade and you can access a bunch of projects, websites, and also lesson plans. My kids are in the prehistory chapter and I used a lesson plan from this site in which students can only use cave man sign language to talk the entire and they loved it!

In The National Geographic Kids Blog, a group of kids selected by the National Geographic staff share their thoughts and experiences. This is a great blog for kids to follow and be able to read about things that interest them and what other kids think. Teachers can use this as a resource to introduce kids to safe and educational places on the internet that are interesting to them as well. I found this in the "Online Safety" section of Kids.gov, accessed via the publisher companion site of our textbook.
