Presentation Zen: A long time ago, before death by PowerPoint - 18 views

  •
Notice how he uses the entire wide screen to display only visual information, a digital vector animation of the inner workings of the death star. Notice too how he has gathered the troops close to the front, how he himself stands close to the back-lit screen (even slightly in front of it at times), and maintains eye-contact with the audience, occasionally pointing to key areas of the animation on screen.

Edupunk for Hire | Julie A. Cunningham - 17 views

I'm done trying to make a graduate program work for me.4 I'm tired of hearing teachers tell me they didn't learn things they needed to know in college. I'm tired of being the customer, and being treated like a recipient at a local food bank. Seriously, if you walked into Wal-mart, and they gave you a pre-loaded shopping bag that you had no choice in selecting, would you go back there?

Asus Planning Cheap Eee Smartphone | Gadget Lab from Wired.com - 0 views

  •
"This news comes with nary a hint of specifications, launch date, design or price, but the words came straight from the mouth of Jonney Shih, chairman of Asustek. Shih says that Asus is planning yet another Eee, this time a smartphone. In an interview with the New York Times, he said that the phone will be the command center at the heart of "the digital home", kind of like the way the iPhone works as a remote for iTunes, only it will control the whole house."

The generation raised on the internet | The kids are alright | The Economist - 0 views

  •
WORRIES about the damage the internet may be doing to young people has produced a mountain of books-a suitably old technology in which to express concerns about the new. Robert Bly claims that, thanks to the internet, the "neo-cortex is finally eating itself". Today's youth may be web-savvy, but they also stand accused of being unread, bad at communicating, socially inept, shameless, dishonest, work-shy, narcissistic and indifferent to the needs of others.

Emily Gould - Exposed - Blog-Post Confidential - Gawker - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  •
Back in 2006, when I was 24, my life was cozy and safe. I had just been promoted to associate editor at the publishing house where I'd been working since I graduated from college, and I was living with my boyfriend, Henry, and two cats in a grubby but spacious two-bedroom apartment in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I spent most of my free time sitting with Henry in our cheery yellow living room on our stained Ikea couch, watching TV. And almost every day I updated my year-old blog, Emily Magazine, to let a few hundred people know what I was reading and watching and thinking about.

News editors and journalists don't give our wonderful students enough credit and enough accolades! We spend hours telling students how much they are valued and appreciated in schools, then they go into the 'real world' where they are portrayed so poorly by mass media.

Google Earth takes you inside refugee camps - 0 views

  •
Google and the UN High Commission on Refugees talked up a partnership in which Google provides the pro version of its Google Earth software, its Sketchup 3D software for creating objects and structures, and extensive documentation on how to use the system to create a .KML layer. The result is a (hopefully) informative overlay that works with both Google Earth and Google Maps to tell visual stories.
