HappySteve: A Day In the Life of Booralie Island, our School's Virtual World - 0 views

  •
Happy Steve blog post chronicling ongoing student work on a Second Life Teen Grid Island. Booralie Island is the virtual extension of a Christian school located in Sydney, Australia. Their island is largely student created and used for many different subjects. Happy Steve is also a great example of a technology infused enthusiastic teacher. This post details students building a war memorial, scripted recording studio, coliseum ... on their own time and after school.

RezzMania - 0 views

  •
RezzMania is a blog dedicated to the builders of Second Life who create amazing virtual structures, clothes, skins, tools, and organizing events and contests. A particular blog post that caught my eye was Vito, the Dogfather: http://rezzmania.com/2009/12/vito-the-dogfather.html Like myself, Vito was a martial artist and dog trainer but unfortunately, he was a victim in a horrific traffic accident and spent 5½ weeks in a coma and ended up with TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). One of his forms of rehabilitation was creating a group for victims of TBI in Second Life. Vito now runs a dojo and trains dogs in SL. His SL group is staffed with a real life physician and a rehab therapist acting as consultants for the rest of the group.

Congress Goes Virtual in Online World Hearing - 0 views

  •
Given that Congress has the lowest approval rating of any branch and that most sessions are broadcast on CSPAN (zzzzz....), I'm not sure what good a Second Life for Congress will accomplish, however if teachers want to have students in a government class explore. At the sim-hearing that took place, Congress people posed questions about the dangers of the second life community (e.g. safety for children, etc.). This was back in 2008, but doesn't Congress already have enough on it's hands than to worry about hte dangers of second life?

This one is pretty cool. I like how you can choose a bunch of different roles to play - senator, charioter, etc. This landmark is much like a webquest - lots of adventures and options for all learners to enjoy.
