“Assignment #3 Mindmeister's mind maps can be used in a collaborative environment where ideas can be shared. When two or more users collaborate on the same map in real-time, all changes are replicated in a color-coded format so that everyone can see updates instantaneously. Mindmeister comes with several pricing plans from the basic, free plan to a premium plan with enhanced security.
  •
This site also allows you to create mind maps. I like this site because it easily allows you to move ideas around by a simple click. It also allows you to easily add links to the mind map as well as images and attachments. Using this site makes it easy to share mind maps with others and collaborate.
  •
I've never used mindmeister, but I love the addition of the larger graphics. Larger graphics offers variety and improves users ability to visually differentiate items. Graphic organizers offer a unique way to introduce topics without overwhelming learners. Interesting graphics and text create visual interest for prelearning. I've only used Freemind for mindmap projects with school, and their graphics are small in relation.
  •
Mind Meister is an excellent cloud based tool that creates collaborative mind maps. This tool is excellent for team use because multiple people can create and edit the tool simultaneously. The team can also create project timelines with deadlines sent to their favorite calendaring tools.
  •
Explanation: Allows users to create a graphic organizer with a web-based tool requiring no download. Easy-to-use and results are good quality. Reasoning: Since this site is web-based, it makes using it very easy and accessible to anyone regardless of their operating system. In addition, creation of the graphic organizer is straightforward and requires little support. Also, the resulting graphic is embeddable.
  •
Mindmeister is one of the first, and still one of the best, online mind-mapping tools. Mindmaps can be used for generative learning as they invite the student to integrate information previously learned in a visual and connected way. Mindmeister is a good tool for this as it is available across iOS and Android. Additionally, it exports web maps into the .mm format which open natively in the free Freemind application for offline viewing and creation.
  •
MindMeister is a widely used mind-mapping program that is also linked to its mobile app, for access on the go. I chose this program based on the simplistic design and ease of use. Anyone can access MindMeister and immediately use the program for graphic organization.
  •
    * MindMeister is an online mind mapping and brainstorming website used to create multiple kinds of graphic organizers. The template library provides many different kinds of examples that provide curriculum activities for essential or generative learning including prioritizing information, extending understanding of important concepts, project planning, drawing conclusions, making connections to other ideas, and making inferences.
    * I found MindMeister to be better than other online graphic organizer websites due to the ease of use, variety of templates available, and it is free to create up to three maps at a time.

o Mindmeister is a mind mapping and online collaboration tool that allows learners to organize their thoughts by creating mind maps. A group of learners can collaborate on a single mind map to come up with a final product, and they can do so in real time. They can add text, graphics, links, notes, etc. to fully develop and present their ideas. In addition, learners can save final product in various formats to embed them in their projects. The interaction learners have with the content to organize it into a visual representation (as supported by Mindmeister) is the perfect example of generative processing or using cognitive processes to make sense of the material (Mayer, 2009). For English Language Learners, this tool allows learners to show what they understand even when they may not have enough English to write a paper on a particular concept/topic. o The site is easy to use and creates a clean and organized product. Some mapping programs can yield such complex products that are very hard to follow. In addition, I enjoy the ability to work offline because teachers and students alike might not always have internet handy. Finally, this is one of the few programs available not only for pc, but also for mobile and tablet.

Morguefile - 0 views

  •
o Morguefile provides royalty free still images for use in media presentations. Mayer (2009) highlighted the importance of the multimedia principle explaining that individuals learn better from words and picture than words along. With pictures and text learners can make greater connections, and most importantly transfer (Mayer, 2009). o It is amazing that this site still has FREE pictures. Places like Shutterstock are extremely expensive, and even the more affordable sites like Dollarphotoclub and Dreamstime can add up as one selects pictures.

This is an online graphic organizer creation website. This website allows for users to share and edit the organizer in real-time, like in Google Docs. The graphic organizer can also be exported to wikis and blogs. The sharing feature and real-time editing features is what makes this graphic organizer website stand out from others. It is an example of essential learning since it allows the material being presented to be organized by the participant in their own way so that the new learning can make it to the working memory.
  •
This is a great free site for collaborative learning with graphic organizers. It is great for allowing participants to work simultaneously on graphic organizers at the same time.

Google docs - 0 views

Brief Description: Google docs is a website that allows more than one individual construct and critique documents despite their distance. Google docs allow groups to create a spreadsheet, drawing, presentation, documents and forms asynchronously or synchronously. Brief Explanation: Google docs is a great website to use because it is easier to use, saves the documents, and allow group members to work on the document even without their group members there. Also no one can erase the information from the document due to the fact that an invitation is required in order to have contact with the document.

This also is a site which I have been familiar with, more recently when I received my interactive whiteboard. This site appears to be much more technology centered, where it is designed to be used with the interactive boards and student response systems. BrainPop.com is also partner with the Promethean Company, where many of its features are accessible using their products. As you navigate through the subject areas, each lesson begins with a short video and provides additional resources such as games, printable handouts and a short quiz. There also are sites for K-3 and ESL learners. The technology used to present this site to students (interactive whiteboards, student response systems) was developed prior to this site, although it is possible to integrate this in others ways to students (centers, whole group using a projector) but it is clear this site was directly designed and developed with the technology in mind first.

MOD 3 - A Big Display is Essential - 0 views

The Smart Technologies website provides an abundant amount of information about Smartboards but the writer paid close attention to the Education link. The site gave basic information about different Smartboard models and how they are used in classrooms. There were videos, links and graphics used to deliver information.

Big displays in workshops and other presentations is an essential feature. Whether it's an IWB or just a big projection screen, the ability to display enlarged content for all to see is invaluable. In this manner, IWBs enrich the experience with it's interactive capabilities and robust software (Notebook 10 for SmartBoards). A little known feature of Notebook 10 is an included LinQ application that allows for the networking of 5 additional laptops that can share their screens to the SmartBoard. Oh yes it doeoess. . .

PowerPoint with a Learning Point - 1 views

  •
The topic of my multimedia workshop is on How to Utilize Multimedia to Create Effective Instructions. I plan to use PowerPoint as my multimedia artifact. In Jones (2005) article she establishes the fact that the technology of choice for most projects was PowerPoint. The main reasons for selecting PowerPoint for my multimedia project coincided with what was discussed in this article. PowerPoint is accessible and familiar to most educators and students. It is simple to use, can be created on desktop, visually stimulating, sounds or auditory stimulation can be added and can be use for cognitive abilities. In addition, PowerPoint has presentation versatility because it can be used as an original file, PDF format, and html format. It can also run with videos and have narration added. Finally, the software allows for interactivity. The focus of the multimedia workshop is to create a learner-centered approach to learning instead of a technology approach to learning; the software is used to facilitate this process (Jones 2005, p. 1). Mayer's (2008) active processing is when meaningful learning occurs and learners are engaged in the active cognitive processing during learning and instructors must figure out ways to prime the learners to pay attention to relevant material, and mentally organize the information and integrate the information based on their prior knowledge. The ability to actively process information can be associated students dynamic, collaborative and synergistic construction of significant knowledge within a multi-learning environment. Jones, D. (2009.). PowerPoint with a learning point. Collaborative Mind Mapping & Information Sharing | Spinscape - 3 views

another excellent mind mapping application that is platform independent. This allows you to collaborate online in the creation of a mind map

This site allows you to generate interactive mindmaps that help organize thoughts and ideas into great visual representations. It is easy to create, to meanipulate, and to edit. You are able to collaborate on the map with others and you canmake the map public or share with select audiences.
  •
I recently discovered Spinscape, which is a mindmapping webtool that can be used to create a graphic organizer. It has so many features wrapped into one application. Some of the features that I would find helpful in using Spinscape are the ability to insert links, widgets to post Youtube video, notes, attachments and even tasks for managing a project. Spinscape also offers numerous different views such as the classic bubbles, compact, wiki and farmland styles. The ability to put in tags also makes this a useful tool to help locate information. This definitely is a more visually appealing and more multi-functional than some of the other mindmaps that I have seen, but it is significantly more difficult to navigate and use. It exports the files in multiple formats (HTML, PDF, Word), but not in JPEG. I would really love to use this tool for my presentation, but I will probably not because of the cost. I have been using my 7 day trial membership to explore and it will be expired by the time that I do my workshop.
  •
Previously submitted this website for consideration. The sign-in features include using your Yahoo, Google, and Facebook accounts (most middle schools students have at least 2 of these accounts) as well as the ability to embed widgets(youtube) into the mind map.
  •
Spinscape is a graphic organizer that allows for images, hyperlinks, and collaboration. As a tool used for organizing material, it can help students focus on the important elements of the course. I believe the most important element of this tool is the potential for the effective use of collaboration among students using images and hyperlinks.
  •
This is a collaborative mind mapping resource. It is used to work together to find and share information on any subject. It can be used in real time with users around the world to create collaborative mind maps on any topic. This site provides tutorials for users to learn about the various features that can be utilized within the program. I think this site is the best resource for mind-mapping because of the real time collaborative element and the ability to find a variety of pre-created mind maps.
  •
Spinscape is not only a great tool as a graphic organizer to find, organize, and share information, but it also allows for real time collaboration with peers from around the world. I like this website over other similar sites because you can add text, images, or graphics to expand on the information provided within the graphic organizer.

Storybird - 1 views

Storybird is another presentation tool that will be used as a means of sharing information throughou the workshop. Storybird will be one of the options for teachers to use in creating their final product. Storybird is a free online tool used to create and promote digital storytelling. The website is very user-friendly with strict parameters which is wonderful for K12 education. The website and its creators pride themselves on being "family-friendly". With this in mind teachers can also feel at ease sharing this tool with their students.

MOD 3 - Whiteboarding - 1 views

I am amazed at the capabilities of collaboration software. The use of Elluminate, in particular, has been demonstrated in LiveChat presentations by a number of my professors. With a network such as proposed in my Smartboard entry, and with all computers equipped with webcams, the breadth of educational technology can be put on display. This is perfect for the purposes of my workshop.
