This video provides an introduction to student response systems for teachers who are unfamiliar with clickers and how they can assist a teacher in the classroom. The video explains various aspects of clickers and provides demonstrations on the different aspects that teachers can use in conjunction with the clickers. Many teachers are not familiar with technology; therefore, they need extra support and help when incorporating new technology into the classroom. The video explains various aspects of using student response devises. The video is more technology centered than learner centered. The emphasis is placed on using technology to modify or enhance a lesson. Mayer, (2009) explains the technology centered approaches are not always the most effective. The learner needs to be the focus of the lesson not the technology. This instructional video focuses on the technology and not the learner. The video explains various aspects but many viewers might feel overwhelmed when listening because they do not understand the terminology.

Audacity is free sound editing software. It is open source and there are versions for all operating systems and platforms. Constant improvements and an enormous and very active community of devote followers that offer support makes this tool a favorite of many.

Audacity allows for sounds, songs, and audio files to be recorded and edited. This tool will be useful for workshop participants to add their own voice to pictures and images in a presentation. Its features seemed easier to use than other similar audio editing applications.

Wordpress http://wordpress.com/ Participants wll use this site to create their own Worpress blog with multimedia added. This will be a generative learning assignment because the participants will be creating their own blog. The blogs will be designed for their students. I chose this site because it is free and they can use their own e-mail account and not have to create a new Google account. Also Wrodpress is not a site blocked by our school system.

This website contains templates that could be used to create pre-training game activities for the Student Response Systems. By engaging participants in a game using the clickers, this will help inform the presenter the level of understanding and knowledge the participants have of the technology being used.

This site is part of the eInstruction website. I chose the eI Community as a site to use in my workshop for authentic assessment activities, because it offers teachers the ability to create and upload resources for the Interwrite tablet and Students Response Systems. What better way to assess what a participant has learned than to have them create their own lesson, graphic, or resource and upload it for others to use?

The video uses a learner-centered approach to technology because according to Mayer, it does "compliment human abilities, aid activities that we are poorly suited and enhances the development for which we are ideally suited" (Mayer, 2009, p. 13)." This video presentation provides teachers with information on how to make the SMART Board accessible to all students. The video uses a learner-centered approach to technology because it "takes in account the learners information processing (Mayer, 2009, p. 9)." The required active engagement for this video is cognitive because the focus is on learner adding information to their memory. The three web sites that I selected that include multimedia artifacts for active learning: 1) http://www.learner.org/ The learner.org website is a cognitive activity. This web site accomplishes the learner-centered approach. The web site focuses on using multimedia technology as an aid to human cognition (Mayer, p. 13 2009). It uses film clips to demonstrate the practical applications of various mathematical concepts to real life situations. It builds a connection of what the students are studying to a concrete example (visual) to create a clearer mental picture form prior knowledge to new knowledge that is being discovered. 2) http://pearsonmylabandmastering.com/ The My Lab web site is a behavioral activity. This web site accomplishes the learner-centered approach. The web site focuses on rewarding students for the correct responses (excellent) or punished for the incorrect ones (try again). The underlying metaphor is that of drill-and-practice system, so multimedia is a vehicle for rewarding correct responses and punishing incorrect ones (Mayer, p.15, 2009). A student receives immediate feedback positive or negative and strengthens a response system to proceed or provide reinforcement of the content. 3) http://webgraphing.com/ The web graphing web site is a cognitive activity. This web site accomplishes the learner-centered approach. The web site provides engagement between the student and the graphing calculator. Multimedia learning is a sense-making activity in which the learner seeks to build a coherent mental representation from the presented material (Mayer, p. 17, 2009).
