Google Apps vs. Office 365: Why Google Will Win the Enterprise | BetterCloud Blog - 1 views

  •
"Since our founding, it's been a core mission of BetterCloud's to spread the word about Google Apps and evangelize for the platform. And after raising a Series A this past January, we've stepped up our hiring process, which has led candidates to ask why I'm betting my career and company on Google Apps. This was a question we encountered throughout the fundraising process and I'm sure it's frequently asked of other ISVs and Google Apps resellers. While I'm obviously biased towards Google Apps, I do wholeheartedly believe the platform will win."

Here's Where Teens Are Going Instead Of Facebook - Forbes - 4 views

  •
Having surveyed teenagers in 30 countries, they revealed that the number of teenagers claiming to be active on Facebook (ie. doing more than just "liking" a separate page on the web) had dropped to 56% in the third quarter of 2013, from 76% in the first. The biggest decline in active usage (by 52%) was in the Netherlands; there was a 16% fall for American teens. Where are they going instead? Not surprisingly, it's mobile chat services like WeChat, and photo-sharing apps like Instagram and Snapchat. What's truly startling though, is how quickly global teenagers are taking up the services instead:

Turn iPhone Into iPod Touch - 2 views

  •
"Now that you've made the choice between iPhone 5S and 5C, what to do with your old iPhone? While you can always sell the phone, any profit is dependent on the quality of the phone. A phone that's seen its share of wear and tear likely has a low resale value. Consider turning that gently used iPhone 4S or 5 into the equivalent of an iPod Touch, perfect for kids wanting an iDevice to call their own."

Smartphones: The Silent Killer Of The Web As You Know It - 4 views

  •
"The PC is dying, long live the PC! These headlines have been thrown around for years, as sales of laptops and desktops have continually dwindled downward. The tablet has long been pinned as the murderer of the traditional computers and it certainly looked like it was going to be the one to do away with them (perhaps in a few years), with the focus of many companies such as Apple and Microsoft shifting towards a tablet-first world."

155 Lessons in the Creative Process | Betchablog - 0 views

  • The “big idea” I wanted to communicate was that creativity is a process, an active thing you do, and should do it regularly. Borrow and share, be open and curious, and you WILL come up with creative ideas. Some people claim they aren’t creative,  but there is no such thing as a non creative person, just a person who has chosen not to see the world creatively.

Notes and slides from Chris Betcher's presentation at EduTech 2014 on Creativity. An interesting way to incorporate technology by focusing on creativity, something that is too often forgotten and overlooked.

  •
Smokescreen is a cutting-edge game about life online. We all use Facebook, MySpace, Bebo and MSN to keep up with our mates - and we've all heard the stories about parties on Facebook being mobbed, or people getting stalked on MSN. The question is, what would you do if it happened to you?

ZuluPad - 10 views

  •
ZuluPad is a notepad on crack. It's a place to jot down class notes, appointments, to-do lists, favorite websites, annotated bookmarks, pretty much anything you can think of. The great thing about ZuluPad is that it combines the best parts of a notepad with the best parts of a wiki, a concept made popular by Wikipedia. The basic idea has been called a personal wiki or a desktop wiki.

Lost Canister of Film Prompts YouTube Search For Its Owners - 1 views

  •
"What would you do if you found a canister of film in the middle of a snowy park? (After wondering to yourself, "Who the hell still uses film?" that is). Well, if you're Todd Bieber, you make a YouTube (YouTube) video in order to find the owners of that film."
  •
I wonder if anybody can help find the owners of this film canister?

YouTube - TEDxPhilly - Chris Lehmann - Education is broken - 1 views

  •
"Chris Lehmann introduces a revolutionary idea in education: Encourage learning by allowing students to do things they are good at instead of restricting them. While that may sound elementary, Lehmann's speech carves out an innovative way to teach students success so they will strive for success in the post-graduate world."

Richard Dreyfuss reads the iTunes EULA | Reporters' Roundtable Podcast - CNET Blogs - 3 views

  •
"This Friday's Reporters' Roundtable is on a topic that vexes us all: why are end user license agreements and terms of service so long and convoluted? To get ourselves in the mood for this show, we asked CNET fan (and Academy Award winner) Richard Dreyfuss if he'd help us out by doing a dramatic reading of the Apple EULA. He said yes. So, without further ado, we present to you,"

Khan Academy and the mythical math cure - 1 views

  •
"So I'd like to get more specific about what I think is wrong about the Khan Academy approach by writing about things I see as wrong with the way we teach math in the US. No matter if we agree or not about Khan Academy, I'm fairly certain we can agree math learning is not going as well as we'd like (to say the least.) Too many people are convinced by the system that they "hate math", and even students who do well (meaning, can get decent test scores) are often just regurgitating stuff for the test, knowing they can safely forget it shortly afterward."

YouTube - Khan Academy and the Effectiveness of Science Videos - 0 views

  •
"It is a common view that "if only someone could break this down and explain it clearly enough, more students would understand." Khan Academy is a great example of this approach with its clear, concise videos on science. However it is debatable whether they really work. Research has shown that these types of videos may be positively received by students. They feel like they are learning and become more confident in their answers, but tests reveal they haven't learned anything. The apparent reason for the discrepancy is misconceptions. Students have existing ideas about scientific phenomena before viewing a video. If the video presents scientific concepts in a clear, well illustrated way, students believe they are learning but they do not engage with the media on a deep enough level to realize that what was is presented differs from their prior knowledge. There is hope, however. Presenting students' common misconceptions in a video alongside the scientific concepts has been shown to increase learning by increasing the amount of mental effort students expend while watching it."

"How Microtask's Digitalkoot game helps weed mistakes out of the Finnish National Library's e-archives One more step, and a tiny creature will cross the bridge and get to safety. Just one more step - but letters do not match, the fragile structure blows up and the brown mole falls into a digital abyss. But as Juha Valtamo, a 21-year-old Finnish student, correctly types the next word that appears on the screen of his laptop, another mole happily reaches the destination. Digitalkoot may sound like a typical online game - but there is more to it than just building bridges and saving moles."

Education a strong driver for future female tech leaders - 1 views

"Women continued to debate the question of whether formal quotas are needed for their rise to technology leadership roles at last week's Cisco Empowered Women's Network lunch in Melbourne. However, some believe it's the work teachers are doing in schools and universities that will have the greatest effect in growing the next generation of female leaders. "
