"This site has been put together by a small group of teachers and teacher educators convened by the DfE's Teaching Agency and chaired by Bob Harrison. Our aim has been to curate a collection of resources for use by those training teachers to deliver the new primary computing curriculum, whether for trainees' individual use, for use in lectures and workshops or for trainees to use as resources for their own lessons when working in school."

2010: the year of the cloud - Home - Doug Johnson's Blue Skunk Blog - 6 views

  • that relationship of the technology department with other departments will need to change as hardware and software support, maintenance, and even planning take a back seat to the role of enabler of other departmental and district objectives.
  • This is the beginning of the end for school-supplied, school-controlled computer access. - of the tech department's primary task of keeping individual work stations configured and running and the end of the futile attempt to keeps kids away from their own technologies while they are in school.
  • For libraries, 2010 will be seen as the last time that buying any reference materials in print made sense at all.
  • ...4 more annotations...
  • Implementing GoogleApps for Education for the staff about a year ago and for the students last fall was a huge jump to the cloud for our district. Our dependence on our own local file servers is lessening each year.
  • I've used GoogleDocs both at work and for my professional writing more than I have used Word
  • I read almost exclusively e-books on both the Kindle 3 and the iPad.
  • Cloud computing, out-sourcing support, and low-maintenance Internet devices will allow me to adopt a similar mission as the head of a technology department - to create technology users who can focus on their real jobs - teaching and learning and leading - just fine without me.

"2010 was the year the cloud's impact became clear, permanent and more far-reaching than this slow-thinker had previously realized. Few things we did in my school district have not been in some way cloud-related - and those projects on the horizon look to be as well. My own personal technology use for both work and leisure has changed significantly this year due to ubiquitous cloud access and the devices meant to take advantage of it."

15 Apps for Recording Skype Conversations | VoIP Sol - 4 views

  •
"There are lots of ways to record your Skype calls easily, allowing you to save them locally for posterity (ie. covering your back). But mostly you'll want to record a call and drop it into a podcast or make it publically available for all. I've collated the best apps for recording Skype in this list. While some of the applications are free, most of them require you to shell out a few bucks. The list is split into separate sections for Windows and Mac."

Education Week: Battle for Whiteboard-Market Supremacy Heats Up - 2 views

  •
"The battle for supremacy in the K-12 whiteboard market is heating up. Companies are scrambling for new sources of revenue, making strategic moves to reinvent their products in the age of tablet computing, and sizing up their competitors to see what they can do to differentiate themselves from the pack. Who ultimately ends up on top has huge implications for educational technology leaders, who must determine which company is the best fit for their needs, and at a cost their districts can afford in still-difficult budget times. Complicating those decisions are changes in the technological landscape that are raising questions about the long-term educational relevance of interactive whiteboards. Do classrooms really need them in the age of iPads?"

UDL and The Flipped Classroom: The Full Picture « User Generated Education - 6 views

  •
In response to all of the attention given to the flipped classroom, I proposed The Flipped Classroom: The Full Picture and The Flipped Classroom: The Full Picture for Higher Education in which the viewing of videos (often discussed on the primary focus of the flipped classroom) becomes a part of a larger cycle of learning based on an experiential cycle of learning. Universal Design for Learning has also been in the news lately as a new report Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Initiatives on the Move was released by the National Center on UDL, May, 2012. This post describes the principles of Universal Design for Learning and how they naturally occur when a full cycle of learning, including ideas related to the flipped classroom, are used within the instructional process.

Free Technology for Teachers: Historical Facebook - Facebook for Dead People - 0 views

  •
"Derrick Waddell created a Facebook template for historical figures to leverage student interest. This template, available through the Google Docs public template gallery, asks students to complete a Facebook profile for famous people throughout history with a place for pictures, an "about me" section, a friends column, and a map to plot the travels of historical figures. It will not result in an actual Facebook account being created."

Amazing concept, building on what some teachers probably already managed to do with a pencil and paper worksheets but with an online language that some students will be already familiar with.

What is NFT, How To Use It, Where To Store It And How Long Will They Stay With Us? - 0 views

  •
The NFT trend started back in 2017 with the famous blockchain game CryptoKitties. Then the excitement about Crypto Kotikov was so widespread in the community that, in addition to selling pictures for 600 ETH, it practically blocked the operation of the Ethereum network itself for several days. With the crypto-winter in 2018-19, the hype for "cats" subsided, but ERC-721 standard tokens remained and in 2021 they created a new NFT hype.
