Looking for something to jazz up your literacy lesson? Check out Domo by goannimate. A free animation tool that allows you to create funky looking animations. A great tool for any literacy lesson especially if wanting to emphasise dialog, setting and characterisation for creative writing. 

Most students have the idea that Google will answer their search queries without realising how it works as a search engine i.e. popularity of the site. Digital literacy and the ability to find relevant and reliable resources therefore requires the development of search skills in the classroom. These Search Education lessons were developed by Google Certified Teachers to help you do just that. The lessons are short, modular and not specific to any discipline so you can mix and match to what best fits the needs of your classroom. Additionally, all lessons come with a companion set of slides (and some with additional resources) to help you guide your in-class discussions.

The original product, Disconnect, was created by a former engineer at Google and its subsidiary, DoubleClick, Brian Kennish, and a former consumer rights advocate, Casey Oppenheim. It shows users the invisible sites that track their actions on the web and blocks them. According to Kennish, it not only cuts the advertising umbilical cord, but it also reduces the use of bandwidth and increases browser speeds by as much as 27 per cent. A more recent product, Disconnect Search, essentially makes your search terms anonymous.

Wow what a great chrome extension. This looks like a great tool for all writers. I especially like the 'collect highlights' tool. Make sure you watch the accompanying video to see how it works.  Read&Write for Google Docs is a cool extension I found on Web App Reviews that can benefit ELLs and struggling readers. The extension provides you with a special toolbar on the top of your Google documents.

After consideration by district technology coordinator John Haubner and other administrators, and @MessnerEnglish became our class Twitter account. It's essential that the teacher emphasize responsible use by students. Probably the most important piece is close monitoring of students by the teacher.
