I have been part of a very exciting Graduate Program at CW Post. Through this program we have created a site that we would like to share with you. In this site you will find very exciting and new ways to take your students or yourself on a virtual field trip. Many times we would like to travel to interesting places but do not have the means. Through this site you are able to travel to places and experience them digitally. You also are able to share your travels on this site. Imagine going to Egypt and wanting to share it with students who might possibly never have an opportunity to go themselves. Please feel free to email us at Digitalexperiences@gmail.com with questions. A fast and free field trip is at your finger tips! All you need to do is visit : digitalexperiences.wikispaces.com Enjoy!!! We look forward to hearing about your experiences and joining in our quest to re-invent a digital field trip!!!

Between the By-Road and the Main Road: Bold Schools Part II: Teacher as Time Traveler - 12 views

  •
"Will Richardson's search for bold schools nudged my thinking too.  In a former post, I wrote about the learner as knowmad, borrowing heavily from Pekka Ihanainen and John Moravec's concepts about knowmads.  In this post I explore teacher as time traveler. In the the third post I will explore community as rhizome. All three are conditions present in my conception of bold schools. "

  •
ORBIS: The Stanford Geospatial Network Model of the Roman World reconstructs the time cost and financial expense associated with a wide range of different types of travel in antiquity. The model is based on a simplified version of the giant network of cities, roads, rivers and sea lanes that framed movement across the Roman Empire. It broadly reflects conditions around 200 CE but also covers a few sites and roads created in late antiquity.

Immersed In Too Much Information, We Can Sometimes Miss The Big Picture : All Tech Cons... - 48 views

  • Although we find ourselves as travelers in the age of over sharing, it turns out we remain quite adept at avoiding the really tough topics.
  • Google’s Eric Schmidt recently stated that every two days we create as much information as we did from the beginning of civilization through 2003. Perhaps the sheer bulk of data makes it easier to suppress that information which we find overly unpleasant. Who’s got time for a victim in Afghanistan or end-of-life issues with all these Tweets coming in?
  • Between reality TV, 24-hour news, and the constant hammering of the stream, I am less likely to tackle seriously uncomfortable topics. I can bury myself in a mountain of incoming information. And if my stream is any indication, I’m not alone. For me, repression used to be a one man show. Now I am part of a broader movement — mass avoidance through social media.
