It is very balanced and informative and a great post to share with students as you discuss privacy. "As users, we move through our Internet experiences unaware of the churning subterranean machines powering our web pages with their cookies and pixels trackers, their tracking code and databases. We shop for wedding caterers and suddenly see ring ads appear on random web pages we're visiting. We sometimes think the ads following us around the Internet are "creepy." We sometimes feel watched.       woahhhhh that seems really creepy. i dont think that is right for a company to have a deleted photo of you for 30 months. if you delete it, then you delete it for a reason, not so even more people that are in a company to see you doing something that you thought people to see but then relized it was stupid to put this on in the first place.

    This article points out that up to 30 months after photos are deleted from Facebook that they are still there. If someone has the direct URL to a photo, it is still accessible. Students should be taught about this and we should educate ourselves as well. Once something is uploaded it is out there. Period. You cannot take it back.

    Lisa thuman blogged about the recent changes to the Children Internet Protection Act (CIPA) -- to those people who have rejected social networking and chats -- you're required to "educate minors on appropriate online safety including cyberbulling and interacting with others on social networking sites and in chat rooms." How are you going to do this without using safe alternatives and then coach them on it? This is REQUIRED in the US if you get erate funds. Get out there and get busy -- time for pushback.
