Project Idea: Students work collaborative (in groups of 4) to develop an interactive multimedia Escape to Freedom Game based on the exploits of one of the most famous conductors on the Underground Railroad, Harriet Ross Tubman. This PBL project reminds me of a simulation that my students love, The Underground Railroad: Journey to Freedom.

I'm always in search of math projects. I really liked this idea because it incorporates a lot of art and media which can be strengths for students. I like to find projects that allow different students to shine.

New Tech Network: Transforming teaching and learning New Tech Network - 0 views

My oldest 2 and soon 3 students attend a local magnet school that is part of the New Tech Network. I've been so grateful for PBL education for my students. It's not always perfect, but they've created some amazing projects and they've had a superior education to mine in terms of preparation for later life. When you put on a conference for mental health professions as a sophomore class, or create and entire interactive WWI exhibit for the community that made me cry, or try to convince real lawyers that you have enough evidence for a hearing to prosecute your ficitional suspect, you are doing some hard, fun learning!

World War II Propaganda: Weapon of the Home Front - 1 views

Awesome PBL project that focuses on World War II-era propaganda. Students have the opportunity to create a propaganda poster or short film as a culminating activity that they share with the "Ministry of Propaganda" (fellow students and school administrators).

by Shannon Dauphin Project-based learning is becoming increasingly popular as teachers look for a way to make lessons stick in the minds of their students. According to Edutopia, studies have shown that students who use project-based learning remember the material much longer and have healthier attitudes toward education.

Does Education Really Want Student Voice? Spoiler Alert: The Answer is No - 0 views

This article succinctly points out why PBL can be so difficult to initiate into a school system. The author notes that our educational systems reward obedience over innovation. Worth thinking about how that can be changed.

Students can use these to collaborate within and between groups on their ideas for the mural. They can also add links to various murals they find inspiring and write about why that is. They can also work together using Google Docs to create a presentation of their idea for school administrators when they are ready for that step.

The Impact of Project-Based Learning on Minority School Achievement: Implications for S... - 0 views

This study compared 7th and 8th graders' achievement between groups of students who engaged in project-based learning with those who did not. This study is based on Kolb's Experiential Learning Theory, a method of experiential learning that starts with observation and reflections that leads to abstract concepts that lead to new ideas and thinking (Cervantes et al., 2015). The learning cycle, pictured below helps students learn and practice 21st-century learning skills needed for both college and career. The groups that engaged in project-based learning outperformed the groups that did not engage in PBL in both STAAR reading and math tests(Cervantes et al., 2015).
