I feel like every women should be guaranteed paid maternity leave. The government constantly wants us to re produce to keep the world going, so they should encourage women that they'll be fine with money and won't have to worry about missing work.

Maternity leave should be a MUST. Pregnancy is tough and the delivery is life changing. Mother's go through all different kinds of changes. It is unfair for a mother to have to go through these changes all while worrying about having to go to work and missing and wondering how her child might be doing.

One third of children in the U. S. is overweight or obese, and this number is continuing to rise. Children have fewer weight-related health and medical problems than adults. However, overweight children are at high risk of becoming overweight adolescents and adults, placing them at risk of developing chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes later in life.

Obesity in children is often sad to see but it is becoming very prevalent in American society. In my opinion, a mixture of an extremely sedentary lifestyle as well as poor nutritional choices at school and at home contribute largely to this issue. Because children now have a multitude of indoor activities that don't necessarily get them on their feet and a lack of overall knowledge on what is a decent, balanced diet I'm not really surprised to see this issue skyrocketing.

Obesity is still rising especially because of the pandemic that we are going through which made families quarantine for a long time. It is very sad that the obesity rates only have increased.

The rising suicide rates across the globe are disturbing. Over the past 45 years, the suicide rates have risen by 60%, they have nearly doubled, and are getting worse every year. As of 2016, a person commits suicide every 40 seconds, and the CDC believes that that number will rise to one every 20 seconds by 2020, a disturbing figure. The phenomenon has had little explanation as to cause, however i believe it is the fall in the number of people of faith, or religion. Over the past 50 years, more and more people have lost faith, and crime rates, and suicide rates have skyrocketed. But that is just a theory.

We all are aware and know how scary suicide can be but it is heartbreaking to know that every year the growing rate is rising. We see on the news and on social media that teens are committing suicide but we need to realize that it is not just teens, its all people. The best thing we can do for those who have thought of committing suicide is to be there and listen to them when help is needed.

It's sad to hear about how often suicide happens. I wasn't aware of how bad it actually was. There are many different reasons people decide to take their life away. All we can really do is to try to be there for anyone who needs help and show people that you care. Sometimes it can be from the people we least expect.

It all comes down to being cautious with what you do alone and or over technologies.

This book captures the many facets of information gathering by digital dossiers. It reminded me of the recent unveiled programs called Tempora and Prism used by the United Kingdom and NSA. The extent of these programs capacity to siphon user data iset deeply guarded and not known in detail, however the dossiers gathered by our internet traffic on an individual basis should alarm users. I belive privacy is priceless, if I told my grandfather who passed in 2006 the extent we divulge our personal information on social media he would probably find it unbelievable. He was born in 1920 became an officer in the United States Air Force and served in WW2. The idea of privacy has changed with each generation. The way we perceive the handheld devices we all carry as young as the age of 5, may seem to our greatest generation who is currently exiting our society as a mere tracking device for big brother. The water supply will force farmers into seeking more resourceful ways of farming from drought proof crop to reducing their growing area and crop types but ultimately demands a change in how the western states and Arizona source their water supply as it effects our food supply for the future.

It is truly devastating how the drought is affecting the food supply and our farmers in Arizona, there is a need for better water management, and we need a lot more water in Arizona to survive in the intense heat.

I can't imagine how a farmer feels. The colorado river needs a dramatic change.

This article talks about how Sex Ed in the United States continues to lag behind other industrialized nations. There's a lack of comprehensive sex education, with individual states picking and choosing what schools are allowed to teach and how teachers can respond to questions from students.

I couldn't agree more with the notion that our country's sex education is failing the youth of America. It has gotten better over the years due to the education through the internet. But in many southern states, there is still a huge impact on teen pregnancies.

It's really heartbreaking to me how true this is. I was disgusted but also grateful for my sexual education in school. It was graphic and hard to swallow, but important. I hope that we can be less immature as a society about this and rise up to protect and inform our youth.

The article shows a bias leaning towards the schools although there are many hearing families who find themselves troubled by the idea of sending their Deaf children away from K-12 but the article brings forward the positive aspects of how a residential school is uniquely capable of helping deaf children develop confidence and capable social skills that would allow them to experience a proper education unlike a mainstream public school in which they would most definitely be out-casted by their lack of resources, culture, language, and role models. It shows both the pros and cons of the residential schools for the Deaf in America but with a clear bias, however this is not unreasonable. Despite the clear bias towards residential schools from the author the article offers a point of view of hearing parents finding issue with sending their child away from home for long periods of time as they would experience with a residential school.

Sex ed should be a choice for kids to take in accordance to their parents, for myself when I was younger we had to have a signed paper from our parents giving us permission to take part in the sex ed class and for those parents who said no and wanted to teach there kid themselves went to another room. I see both sides to this article and its a very well informative piece.

I think a semester of sex ed would be great. When I was in school it was just a 55 minute lecture with a couple of videos. I understand why some people may be upset with this, however, those people must understand that not every child has an involved parent who are capable or willing to educate their children. I think safe sex is integral for our children to learn. I believe it could help lower the stats of sexually transmitted disease and teen pregnancies.

Even though mental illness is a common problem it's handled very poorly. People with mental illness struggle to get help for a variety of reasons. They lack the money to pay for therapy and the support they need.

Mental health definitely needs funding. A lack of funding will result in higher poverty and an increased suicide rate among the disabled. Not too long ago the mentally ill were put in asylums. Being someone who has Asperger's Syndrome I have experienced shutdowns and anxiety. At my last college I was unofficially withdrawn. When I have anxiety I often cannot leave my bedroom and school has become very difficult.

The main reason many do not seek professional help is not due to money, but the stigma that society places on someone with mental illness. Suffering in silence is a common way to handle the disease. Many also self medicate with alcohol and drugs. There is free help out there, just have to look for it. Catholic Family Services and Christian Church groups are there to those who ask for the help.
