Wrongful Convictions - 1 views

  •
Over the years many innocent men and women have been wrongful convicted of crimes they never committed. Each day many are proven innocent and finally able to see loves ones and walk as free men and women again.
  •
My heart hurts for people who are wrongly incarcerated. After they are released it isn't enough to apologize or give them large amounts of money. There are no transitional programs to reintegrate them into society. It's usually up to local organizations to help people get back on their feet.
  •
Wrongful incarceration is a really big deal in our country. Black men and women especially are being incarcerated at higher rates due to petty crimes or crimes they didn't even commit and I think that really needs to be fixed.

FBI: Nearly 5X More Murders Committed With Knives Than Assault Rifles ยป Alex ... - 0 views

  •
Over the past 8 years, there have been obvious assaults at United States citizens second amendment right to bear arms. Guns, especially assault rifles, have received an awful lot of scrutiny for people shooting one another, however in reality shootings with assault rifles account for only 2% of homicides in the United States. Meanwhile the rifles themselves are being blamed for the unstable people wielding them. Meanwhile knives account for nearly 14% of homicides, however no one is attempting to ban knives, as it is general knowledge that they are tools, just like guns. But the media is making every attempt to make guns the villains, not the wielders.
  •
This subject has been plaguing our country for years now, and it's proven that most violent crimes don't happen with guns. Especially assault rifles, people aren't just carting around carrying around rifles everywhere committing crimes. They use what's small and readily available. Such as, knives, bats, handguns, or even just using their fist to get what they want.

Blue on Black crime is a huge social justice issue that is present in today's society. It was mainly brought back up when a young, unarmed African-American by the name of Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by a police offer by the name of George Zimmerman. Ever since then, a hashtag was formed #BlackLivesMatter, which is now a movement.

A Right to Bear Arms Opinion - 0 views

  •
The controversy with the right to bear arms starts with the goverment. Only a goverment who is affraid of its citizens trys to control them. Gun control is not about the guns, its about taking control. When you remove the right to bear arms, we can not defend ourselves from senseless crimes.

Guily until proven innocent - 2 views

  •
This article shows a point of view most people do not think about nor are they faced with this situation in their personal lives. Being accused of a crime and presumed guilty by the media, society and sometimes family before even being tried for the crime.
  •
This article is very interesting! I completely agree that because of the various forms of media in our society today, and the influence they have on the public, people accused of crimes are usually immediately assumed to be guilty. The authors suggestion that names and pictures stay out of the media, while still informing employers, family, or anyone else who comes in contact with the accused is a great way to ensure privacy if they turn out to be innocent, but also to keep them from victimizing others in case they are in fact guilty.
  •
This topic is not brought up a lot, but it should. This article provides a very good explanation behind the saying "innocent until proven guilty". It also explains that not all of us follow under that saying. It is a saying with actual meaning behind it and more of us need to follow it.

On Gun Control and the Great American Debate Over Individualism - 0 views

  •
This article says how gun control got loose over the last 2 decades and crime rates have gone down. Therefore, more control wouldn't really help bring down crime. It says how the argument is going no where fast and that no changes will end up being made.
  •
Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, and New York passed restrictive laws concerning thirty-round magazines and various weapons based on characteristics - like pistol grips and flash hiders - that have nothing to do with a gun's lethality. The State Department immediately demanded that he take the code down, which he did, although once something is on the Internet it is beyond anybody's control - precisely Wilson's point - and the plastic gun has already been photographed in Europe, well beyond the State Department's control.
