Geograffiti creats voice-marks - audio postings to specific map locations. For example, a history teacher assigns his students to create an audio tour about local history. The students go to various historical monuments and buildings in the community and then phone in historical summaries of the significance of these sites to Geograffiti, which places the oral recordings in the appropriate geographic locations on the map. This activity would enable students to research local history, pratice public speaking, and learn geography in one assignment.

Allows teachers to turn basic cell phones into classroom performance clickers at no charge. Studetns can send poll responses and ideas achieved through bdrainstorming directly to an interactive webpage. An example of the use may be that when the students walk into class the teacher has a question on the IWB that students will need to respond to as their activating strategy for the lesson.

This site can be used for information gathering. Teachers can design instructional activities to help students learn how to use their cell phones as an anytime, anywhere research and information-gathering device. For example, while on a trip to historical Williamsburg, Virginia, a teacher tells his class to send any questions that occur to them to the free information site ChaCha. One student wonders why a certain building was constructed in such an odd way. No tour guides are around to help, so he calls 1-800-chacha, asks his question, and gets a text-message answer back in minutes.

This site provides a variety of ready to use lesson plans on a variety of topics. The lessons have an essential question as well as an outline of strategies and activities that can be used to teach them. In addition, if appropriate, graphic organizers will be provided for use with the lessons. This site covers a variety of content areas. There are interactive games as well as IWB activities.

The National Science Digital L ibrary is the nation's online libdrary for education and research in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. It provides free math lessons and activities aligned with the Math Common Core Standards, as well as STEM-related blogs and other free teacher resources and lesson plan ideas. Targeted for K-12 teachers, higher-education professionals, and librarians, NSDL also provides science literay maps and ITunes multimedia files.

Edhelper.com is a site with a variety of activities for students. Teachers can create puzzles, print quick handouts, provide critical thinking handouts, word search, sudoku, hidden square puzzles, logic shapes, and much more.

Learning Together offers four activities for learning about the geography of the United States. Learning Together also offers a game about world geography and a game about European geography.

Traveler IQ Challenge has 14 interactive geography games. The activities can be embedded in a blog or website.

NumberNut.com is a part of Rader's family of educational games and activities. Number Nut provides some great games with which students can practice and develop their math skills. Unlike many other Math game websites, Number Nut includes some word problems that force students to problem solve rather than just recall information from rote memorization.

Digital Dialects offers a nice selection of educational games and activities for learning 55 different languages. Most of the games are designed to learn and practice the basics of each of the 55 languages listed on the Digital Dialects homepage.

This site is a new multimedia project featuring free interactive adventure games set throughout U.S. history. The first game, Mission 1: For Crown or Coloni? puts players in the shoes of Nat Wheeler, a 14 year old printer's apprentice in 1770 Boston. As players complete tasks throughout the city, they meet everyone from merchants to soldiers, sailors to poets, Patriots to Loyalists. The game reveals rising tensions threatening to come to a head, and, ultimately, players must choose where their loyalties lie. Teachers can use the website to manage classes and track student progress.

Looks interesting. It may align more with the elementary SS content.

Maps 101 appears to not be free but has a trial version. ti appears to be K-12. It includes materials for Spanish language educators and those teaching students with limited English. I couldn't find information on the purchase but I did see that you can request an extension on the trial version.

Memorize.com is a new learning website that allows users to create their own study guides and then share them on the web. The free site assembles user-generated content in three formats -- flash cards, multiple choice, and visual learning diagrams. The topics range from traditional school subjects, such as history, languages, and geography, to less academic categories, such as food, billiards, and television. Users can follow other users and their pages and edit other users' pages to craete their own unique page.

The National Archives has created a new web site to help educators teach with primary-source documents. The site, called DocsTeach, not only lets teachers explore documents in a variety of media from the National Archives holdings, but it also includes online tools to help teachers combine these materials and create engaging history activities for students. Bill of Rights Institute Resources and lessons.

The Bill of Rights Institute has released a new game, Life Without the Bill of Rights? This free click-and explor activity asks students to consider how life would change without some of our most cherished freedoms. Life Without the Bill of Rights? invites studetns to understand the significance of their constitutionally protected rihts, including freedom of religion, speech, and press; freedom from unreasonable search and seizure; and the rights of private property. Other free resources include an interactive module that allows studetns to "travel through time" to converse with the Founding Fathers and report on the Constitutional Convention.
