There are numerous videos that are history related. This site would have some materials that would possibly work to introduce science topics as well. There are a number of timeline.tv links about disease, plague, medicine of medieval times, etc. Very interesting material.

From there, students can click on individual passages (usually as small as a single phrase!) to find detailed explanations. Amazingly thorough and in-depth, it has abundant history + law + citizenship uses.

Picturing America is a project of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association. Picturing America is an interactive gallery of artwork related to events, people, and themes in American history. You can browse the gallery chronologically or by theme. Click on any image in the gallery to learn about the artist and the artwork itself. This site is a new multimedia project featuring free interactive adventure games set throughout U.S. history. The first game, Mission 1: For Crown or Coloni? puts players in the shoes of Nat Wheeler, a 14 year old printer's apprentice in 1770 Boston. As players complete tasks throughout the city, they meet everyone from merchants to soldiers, sailors to poets, Patriots to Loyalists. The game reveals rising tensions threatening to come to a head, and, ultimately, players must choose where their loyalties lie. Teachers can use the website to manage classes and track student progress.

Looks interesting. It may align more with the elementary SS content.

Memorize.com is a new learning website that allows users to create their own study guides and then share them on the web. The free site assembles user-generated content in three formats -- flash cards, multiple choice, and visual learning diagrams. The topics range from traditional school subjects, such as history, languages, and geography, to less academic categories, such as food, billiards, and television. Users can follow other users and their pages and edit other users' pages to craete their own unique page.

The National Archives has created a new web site to help educators teach with primary-source documents. The site, called DocsTeach, not only lets teachers explore documents in a variety of media from the National Archives holdings, but it also includes online tools to help teachers combine these materials and create engaging history activities for students. VocabGenii is a free online vocabulary building game. Each round is only 90 seconds, and you can play anytime, anywhere you have Internet access.

This was addicting. There are a variety of vocab games you can play. I like the one where you are given a type of speech and a definition and you have to unscramble the words from those two clues. You have to create an account for this one. When you want to log off at the top of the play screen you will see a door icon and that is how you log out.

this Internet encyclopedia of mythology, folklore, and religion is suitable for grades 6-12. You'll find everything from A-gskw to Zveda Vechanyaya,k with plenty in between. the mythology section is divided to six geograqphical regions: Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, Middle East, and Oceania. The Folklore section contains general folklore, Arthurian legends, Greek heroic legend, and fascinating folktales from many lands. In addition, there are special topics, including A Bestiary, legendary heroes, an image gallery, and genealogical tables of various pantheons and prominent houses.

This National Geographic site, suitable for grades 6-12, makes excellent use of multimedia to explore the pyramids individually, and place themwithin historical context. It also includes photos and videos from King Tut's Final secrets as well as other ancient Egypt resources

This PBS site has a Galileo biography, an exploration of Galileo's telescope, and other interesting articles as well as fun interactive activities for grades 6-12. These games feature animated experiments including Galileo's ingenious experiment on gravity demonstrating that all objects fall at the same rate. Teacher's can find an archive of over 120 companion Web sites to past Nova TV programs by interest, program title, or year of broadcast. There is a searchable teacher's section with classroom activities, TV program descriptions, related NOVA resources, and explorations for students. The video is not free but the interactive experiments on this site are very nice. They are animated and the kids predict what will happen before you activate the animations.
