History matters is a database of coursework, guides, and primary-source documetns on topics in American history, History Matters was produced by two academic programs at the City Unviersity of New York and George Mason University. The site is most useful for high school history teachers and studetns, and educators can use it as a professional-development resource. The Digital Blackboard page offersr curriculum guides with links to third-party reference sites. Another page hosts a series of Q & A interviews with history teachers, who reveal the secrets behind teaching a successful history course. The Students as Historians page links to web-based projects created by high school and college students. And don't forget to check out the primary-source search engine, located on the Many Pasts page. The search enging links to more than a thousand images, audio, and text-based documenets from American history sites across the Internet.

Scavenger Hunt Through History is a game designed to be played by students in junction with Freedom: A History of US produced by PBS. Freedom: A History of US contains is an overview of US history containing videos, documents, and pictures. In addition to the resources previously mentioned, their are quizzes for students to test their knowledge.

This site has a variety of resources related to history.com. It includes topics for discussion, tv shows, this day in history, videos, and games.

Playing History is a collection of 128 games related to topics in US and World History as well as civics and geography. The games come from a variety of sources across the web. Feedback on every game and suggestions for future additions are welcomed by the hosts of the site. Visitors to Playing History can search for games by using the tag cloud, by using the search box, or just browse through the entire list.

The Virtual History Museum is a history-learning environment designed to promote the historical understanding. The Virtual History Museum (VHM) enables a teacher or student, who serves as a curator, to develop an exhibit about a historical topic. Exhibits include activities that help viewers investigate the exhibit and then communicate to others the results.

Geograffiti creats voice-marks - audio postings to specific map locations. For example, a history teacher assigns his students to create an audio tour about local history. The students go to various historical monuments and buildings in the community and then phone in historical summaries of the significance of these sites to Geograffiti, which places the oral recordings in the appropriate geographic locations on the map. This activity would enable students to research local history, pratice public speaking, and learn geography in one assignment.

I checked out the investigation link. It looks like there are a variety of investigations that students could do.

Fling the Teacher is a website containing 68 history quiz games. All of the quizzes have at least fifteen questions and a few of the games have more than 100 questions. The average is 30-45 questions per quiz. Prior to starting each quiz game students can create their own custom game character.

Eduweb is a site that provides simulations/interactives on various topics related to science, social studies/history, art, and more.

This is a tool designed for history classrooms but able to be adapted to any discipline.

Free site that looks like it would be fun for kids.

Cool site! a free collection of educational videos for students ages 3-18. There are more then 11,000 videos on such subjects as math, science, and history. Students, parents and teachers have designated pages and the site offers a guide for contributors. Featured videos originate from national Geographic, YouTube, and google Videos, among others, and have been endorsed by educators from universities such as Harsvard, Standford, and Brigham Young University.

This site links to the American Museum of Natural History. There are a number of topics to select and then learn about. It looks very engaging.

Social Studies Alive is a tutorial site that allows students to review American History  in a safe secure manner.

This is a wikispace link to the American Treasures Box. The students. The LIU 12 in collaboration with Waynesburg University's Teaching with Primary Sources program is now offering American Treasures Boxes and digital resources, each based on a specific topic from American history. The American treasures boxes consist of a resource CD/flash drive, printed documents and images from the Library of Congress and ideas about how you might incorporate the materials into your classroom. Collection currently available are listed on this link.
