Picture books are no longer relegated to elementary school. Middle school teachers love them because they are accessible to all learners, are a quick way to share a text, and there is a picture book for every topic. My favorites are the books without words.

There are many possibilities for using apps in creative ways in libraries. In Nicole Hennig's online course, "The Book as iPad App," 60 one of the assignments is to participate in a virtual brainstorming activity about this topic. Librarians are from school, academic, and public libraries, and this list is based on the many creative ideas they came up with. Since this course was focused on interactive book apps, the ideas are mostly about those. Feel free to imagine using these ideas for all types of apps.

StoryCorps' mission is to preserve and share humanity's stories in order to build connections between people and create a more just and compassionate world. We do this to remind one another of our shared humanity, to strengthen and build the connections between people, to teach the value of listening, and to weave into the fabric of our culture the understanding that everyone's story matters. At the same time, we are creating an invaluable archive for future generations.From the everyday to the extraordinary, personal interviews get kids listening. Teachers of most any grade level or subject area could use the interviews on StoryCorps as a community-building activity at the start of the year. For example, play one of the interviews on a common theme like friendship, romance, or family, and then use it as a discussion or writing prompt. Although stories are predominantly sourced from America, other countries and cities are represented.

Annotated list of sits that provide free images - rules for use vary some require no attribution, some have CC attached. Check terms of use on each site before using. These resources are fairly diverse in their content and have a lot to offer. Some are category-specific, and others are downright unique. No matter what, they can all bring creative visual enhancements to many a student project.

Two very common acronyms in classrooms are our dear friends WALT and WILF, which stand for "We are learning to…" and "What I am looking for…" These two characters are child friendly ways to share the less prosaic and perhaps less easily understood, learning objectives (LO) and success criteria (SC).

Social impact games are a genre that seek to effect positive changes in society through play. Often, players are put in roles (known as "player agency") and must make decisions that have impactful consequences. These games are not necessarily designed for teaching; rather, the goal is to enable players to have empathy about social issues.
