Online Learning (Rowman & Littlefield Education) - 3 views

  • "Online education programs at the high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels represent one of the fastest growing trends in education today. However, online classes are completely different from any other educational endeavor and require a new set of skills. Bowman, who currently teaches online undergraduate and graduate courses, and her fellow contributors provide an excellent down-to-earth guide for anyone who is thinking about or participating in an online education program. This well-written and understandable book covers some theories of learning styles but focuses on the nuts-and-bolts skills needed to be successful. Each chapter explores a particular aspect of learning online and gives practical advice about how to participate successfully in an online learning environment. Verdict: Bowman and the other contributors have several years' experience helping students learn online, and their perspectives make this a practical and helpful guide to a prevalent and growing practice."— June 2010, Library Journal Starred Review

The 'little book of ICT ideas' - 14 views

We love this document that Mark Anderson has produced for a training day at his school in North Somerset, UK. It succinctly provides the name of Web2.0 tools and gives you examples of how to use them. From our experience teachers did need quick, easy and fast ways to connect to new technology ideas. We think Mark achieves this very well!

How to Reach Baby Boomers with Social Media - ReadWriteWeb - 0 views

  •
Note** Would be interesting for school districts to analyze their percentage of boomers (older and younger) and corresponds their technology training to these new demographics/usage. A new report from Forrester Research revealed some surprising information: apparently Baby Boomers aren't exactly the technology Luddites that people think they are. In fact, more than 60 percent of those in this generational group actively consume socially created content like blogs, videos, podcasts, and forums. What's more, the percentage of those participating is on the rise.

Bans Stifle Social Media's Potential - 3/2/2009 - NSTA Reports-Lynn Petrinjak - 0 views

ames Gates, a recently retired computer science teacher, thinks simple ignorance lies behind many school districts' decisions to block access to social media sites. (...) he notes most school districts in his area of south central Pennsylvania block all blogs. (...). Other administrators may point to the potential for inappropriate contact between educators and students. "Some teachers can take 50 kids over to Europe for 10 days, but they can't [communicate with students through social networks]. It drives me crazy."

Twitter as Personal Learning and Work Tool from - 0 views

A realistic look at twitter as a learning tool. I do not how, ever agree with him about that it is not a social media newbie's tool of choice. I think it is a powerful way to get newbies into understanding how social media works.

Once you record your audio, you can share the link, embed the sound file (see below) or download the file (.wav). I was able to create my Vocaroo without creating an account.

Ed Tech's are stupid! « Effective Digital Classrooms July 29, 2008 by dskmag - 0 views

  •
I'm thinking that in the Ed Tech rush to engage staff in the potential of Web2.0, that we have actually made it all to easy to get out of their depth. I see lessons that involve summarising the text book into power point, or Googling into a Publisher leaflet daily.

Yoga and Sports: Tennis | Blog Of Sport - 0 views

  •
Tennis requires cat-like reflexes with short bursts of strength. These short movements do not allow the muscles to extend their full length. When muscles are strenuously worked they become tight and can lose their elasticity unless properly stretched. Yoga exercises can increase the body's range of motion. The lack of movement because of inflexibility binds the joints. Without the elasticity of the muscles, I think an athlete can be a prisoner within his own body.

Students say using tech to cheat isn't cheating - 0 views

  •
A new poll conducted by the nonprofit organization Common Sense Media suggests that students are using cell phones and the internet to cheat on school exams. What's surprising, however, is not just the alarming number of students who say they cheat, but also the number of students who think it's OK to do so.
