How to Create a Portfolio with Evernote (Education Series) « Evernote Blogcast - 4 views

  •
Using Evernote for classroom portfolios. I like this use of a great tool for more than just sharing and capturing your own work. This is a nice systematic use of a tool for multi-purposes.

Accessing Your Zotero Library on an iPad with Mendeley - ProfHacker - The Chronicle of ... - 1 views

Longtime fan of Zotero! I'm glad they are getting access to new platforms. I switched from Firefox to Chrome a couple of years ago, and have missed being able to use the tool as effectively. I know they've had Chrome tools for a while, but now they also have effective (more effective, but not perfect) iPad apps as well.

Numberlines - 1 views

Number lines are a great resource for any mathematics classroom and a MUST for instruction. Every opportunity for students to make sense of numbers should be taken rather than assumed and an intentional routine use of number lines makes better students. This is a nice resource for having interactions. It's not a great site, but it has potential for routine usage in the classroom.

ScienceOnline2012 Sci-Art Show: The Winners | Symbiartic, Scientific American Blog Network - 3 views

Great post about ScienceOnline2012 Sci-Art Show. I love the combination of art and science. The ability to tell a scientific story through art, metaphor, and imagery is a skill that I think we need to develop. This is a great example of why STEM needs to be STEAM. Not only does it allow us to tell the scientific story but it allows us to tell the story to mass audiences to at least get people involved in the process.

If anyone is looking to have students create digital products, this is a great site to consider as an option for students. Create 3D popup books that students can use to tell their story and share.

Great twitter like site designed for schools and classrooms. Great for sharing research and backchannel conversations that have research breaks built into them because students and teachers can embed images, videos, and links for sharing. If a school is concerned about twitter and access, this would be a great classroom alternative.

Teaching with Technology in the Middle: Diigo for Digital Writing Reflection - 2 views

  •
I love this idea and am unashamedly going to steal it to use. I think it's important to have students reflect on their writing and their work, what better place to do it than on the writing themselves with highlights and sticky notes  using Diigo, BRILLIANT!

Teaching with Technology in the Middle: Finding new hope for research papers (and a new... - 3 views

Read Steve Fulton's approach to researching with his middle school students as they were reading the Hunger Game. I love his approach to incorporating the book, what students already knew, Diigo for sharing, summarizing, and gathering data, and then the writing process. In my opinion, this is how it should be, the focus is on writing not the use of technology. The technology just helps achieve the goal more effectively.

SkyDrive: What's new - 1 views

Microsoft is working to make SkyDrive bigger, faster, and more useful. I've had my skydrive account for a year and haven't used it. Is it too late for this considering Dropbox has such a large lead and is already embedded?  I do like that the online versions of the Microsoft Office Suite seem to be getting better, faster, and with more features. I think I'll need to work on making this a testing priority for myself over the next few months.

Very interesting idea for having students/teachers create a story using search queries. Doesn't work all of the time for all search topics, but has some very interesting applications.

Great resource from Derrick McNeil for helping physics students learn Physics, not independently, but at an independent pace to supplement and differentiate content for his students (and ours).  Interesting approach and philosophy that I think has great merit and is worth exploring for more content areas.

Wolfram Education Portal: Free Resources and Materials for Teachers - 1 views

In the portal you'll find a dynamic textbook, lesson plans, widgets, interactive Demonstrations, and more built by Wolfram education experts. Absolutely a great resource. Builds in representations, applets, explanations of variable use etc. Great tool.  Since it is in Beta, I am wondering how long it will be free and what their plans are for the future.
