Senior Capstone Project from SLA: "The Capstone Project at Science Leadership Academy is an opportunity for seniors to show the culmination of four years of intellectual growth towards an independent and self-directed learner who can contribute meaningfully to the community. It will enable students to focus their interests and curiosity into a coherent representation of how they think and what they believe as they leave high school. The capstone represents a synthesis of the SLA mission and vision as students attempt to answer the questions: "How do we learn?" "What can we create?" and "What does it mean to lead" through a self-selected and designed independent project. As with everything we do, it should embody the core values of inquiry, research, collaboration, presentation, and reflection. The final product will look different for each student, just as each student has a unique perspective and approach to learning."

Project based learning site that is incredibly easy to navigate and create. students can easily create multimedia projects using drag and drop functionality. Even teachers can do it!

Project Noah is a tool to explore and document wildlife and a platform to harness the power of citizen scientists everywhere.  The app is pretty intuitive and turns a smartphone into a scientific tool that takes advantage of the metadata that the phone can track as well as it's ability to gather digital image, audio, and text data. 

The Dartmouth Dante Project (DDP) is a searchable full-text database containing more than seventy commentaries on Dante's Divine Comedy - the Commedia. Use the links on the right to search the the text of the poem and the commentaries, to read more about the project, to see a list of the commentaries in the database, and to learn how to use the database.

Magnoto is a little like glogster. It's a nice little project tool. It is in beta and may not be stable enough for mass use, but it is pretty user friendly and can allow 5 people to work together on the same project. Each person can have their own page or can work together to create one page.

Blog about Chris Geeen's iPod touch project at his school. Has some very interesting ideas about how students can create quick products from research on the iPod touch. Worth looking at if you have access to mobile learning tools not just iPod, although some of the apps are specific to the iPod.

The Cassirpeia Project is an effort to make science education videos available for free to anyone who wants them. Each video can act as a stand-alone content video or the underlying plot that threads through can be used to contribute to student engagement/learning.

I think Google Earth is an underutilized tool to use with students. I can imagine all kinds of projects to use it with, and with this spreadsheet applet, it's now incredibly easy to use. If you know of any English teachers teaching Shakespears encourage them to have their students create timelines of events during that period.

I love Google Earth and here is a simple way to create projects about places, create timelines of events, or just have fun remembering a vacation. It's interactive, easy to use, can be educational, what more could you ask for!

I just spent the day working with teachers at WCHS and we talked about adding the NASA podcast to a wiki for students to respond to during each quarter and I would add this kind of site as a useful resource that would let a student make connections between different topics/concepts they have been studying and "real life" science. I don't think you would ever know exactly what you would get here, which is why I like it. Let the students really work and explore on their own to make connections. As a teacher, let the students create a rubric with you, model an example for them and one with them, and then put the idea out there as a long term project that you touch base on on occasion. Thoughts/responses?

An interesting little article that presents classes of tools to achieve some specific goals for presenting project based learning tools. 

Patrick Ledesma does a nice job outlining how you might give students more choice in developing projects that include technology. Choice doesn't mean do whatever, it means providing frameworks and allowing students the choice to figure out what works best for them to achieve the benchmarks that you lay out within given timeframes.

Great presentation from Chris Lehman. What makes this presentation so powerful (besides the nice clean design) is the actual projects that are part of SLA. 

Writing coach is a pilot program by Pearson, which is also getting a lot of use in Texas classrooms. With writing being a skill that many students need to hone, the timing couldn't be better for an educational tool like this to emerge. The PHWC is an online curriculum that guides teachers and students through a series of activities and projects designed to bolster writing skills in grades six through 12. It's flexible, personalizable, and will likely inspire many similar programs in the coming years.
