Really interesting way of doing a multimedia search. Not sure it's classroom safe, even with safe search on there were several images that were beyond borderline. When I did compound search "algebra" + "linear" much tighter and deleted virtually all inappropriate material. I just like the way you can explore the information. If you have students gathering information and tagging with specific tags like "wjhsconlit09" then you could pull up all of that material without interference. I think it's a great tool for that kind of exploration.

Aggregation of poll data. Great way of exploring data with lots of social studies/current events connections. Time rates this as one of the fifty best sites this year. Worth a few minutes of exploration.

Data visualizations for a changing world The Google Public Data Explorer makes large datasets easy to explore, visualize and communicate. As the charts and maps animate over time, the changes in the world become easier to understand. You don't have to be a data expert to navigate between different views, make your own comparisons, and share your findings.

I'm always looking for an easy to read, easy to implement list of web2.0 applications and Wes Fryer has created another one. I encourage you to find one application/resource and explore it. Don't look at all the possibilities but don't ignore them because it is overwhelming. find one, explore and look for ways to incorporate into your instruction. If you need help, simply ask!

Federal Reserve Economic Data - FRED - St. Louis Fed - 0 views

  •
Want to let students explore with real data then welcome to FRED® (Federal Reserve Economic Data), a database of 25,176 U.S. economic time series. With FRED® you can download data in Microsoft Excel and text formats and view charts of data series. Students can explore data, create models & hypothesis, and test their models as the year progresses. If their models aren't working they can go back to their original data set and make changes based on what they've learned and see how those predictions work on new data. The best part is the variety of data that is available.  We plan to continually improve FRED® and encourage you to send feedback through our contact form.

Having students start understanding number properties early is a significant aspect of developing algebraic reasoning. I really like that this game allows students to 'play'/explore different number combinations. I can even see using this game with older (3-5th) students to have them explore different characteristics of the problems, i.e. 3 + 4 = 7 the larger number goes at the end, 3 and 4 can be switched and still get 7 to introduce number properties in a concrete experiential way.

"Visualize your numbers, explore charts, and share insights with others. " Great data source. Students can explore data sets, identify different ways of representing data, as well as identify different characterisitics of data.

Modumath as linked from Wisconsin Online learning resources. Interesting videos of algebra concepts, not a huge library but well worth the exploration. You must join http://www.wisc-online.com/ to gain access, but it's free and very interesting.

Academic Earth - Video lectures from the world's top scholars - 0 views

  •
Video lectures from universities across the country. Lecture is not the most engaging format, but a great resource for those interested in exploring topics in more depth on their own, but not a great model for engaging presetation for 60-90 minutes.
  •
Great set of resources that might be interesting to people who want to explore some topics on their own, or want to include some aspects of the lectures in their classes. I think there is a HUGE potential for using this content some how.

I think this means that Project Noah makes everyone a scientist.

Project Noah is a tool to explore and document wildlife and a platform to harness the power of citizen scientists everywhere.  The app is pretty intuitive and turns a smartphone into a scientific tool that takes advantage of the metadata that the phone can track as well as it's ability to gather digital image, audio, and text data.

TED brings their thoughtful approach to lesson development for classroom use. The animation of videos is interesting and worth exploring. I am more intrigued by the possibility of developing a library of good lessons using YouTube and the TED talks. There is power in numbers.

Great resource from Derrick McNeil for helping physics students learn Physics, not independently, but at an independent pace to supplement and differentiate content for his students (and ours).  Interesting approach and philosophy that I think has great merit and is worth exploring for more content areas.

Nice set of applets that let students explore fraction understanding from multiple perspectives and models. I love that they use a variety of models for fractional development, including bars (multiple versions), sets, and linear. From the site:  "Why Fractions? Fractions are one of the earliest stumbling blocks for students in math. Our goal is building conceptual understanding in fractions as a basis for comprehension in all later topics."

Content For 2009 - 0 views

Here is where you'll find the course content for Spring, 2009. Assignments are here. Syllabus is here. GEOGEBRA: Throughout the notes, you will find many GeoGebra applets.  These are interactive Java applets.  To activate them, just click on them, and wait for the applet to load.  If you're using Internet Explorer, you may have to click on the "Allow ActiveX control" warning bar at the top of your browser, for the applet to load.  I encourage you to download GeoGebra yourself, or use the "Web Start" option, over at http://www.geogebra.org .  It's very easy to use, and a lot of fun!
