If you want to be more proactive about the use of web 2.0 apps in your work, here is a nice, easy to use explanation on how to embed 'stuff' into your work. Again, easy to read, pretty easy to follow, and useful.

Great way to create, collaborate, share, and embed slideshows. Similar to slideshare.net. This site seems to connect well with other sites. 

Great twitter like site designed for schools and classrooms. Great for sharing research and backchannel conversations that have research breaks built into them because students and teachers can embed images, videos, and links for sharing. If a school is concerned about twitter and access, this would be a great classroom alternative.

Allowing students to express ideas using cartoons develops lots of skills, this site allows students to create their own cartoons and embed them in their online work as well as print. Great way for getting students to express their ideas differently.

Another timeline tool that allows for addition of text events along a timeline. It's still in beta, but relatively easy to use. Not a lot of bells and whistles. Can import from Flickr, Wikipedia, but I haven't found that you can embed video, yet.

Contraption game, great for problem solving, logic, and fun! Doesn't address specific core content, but does offer students opportunity to explore, build, and persevere in problem solving situations. Great extra credit link. I think having students build models, share with the class, and make the goal to have lots of different examples to embed in a class wiki would be awesome!

Wordle is a great tool for using in the classroom, and this is just another example of how it can be used. I want to point out several aspects of this site- - it uses a wiki as the hosting site (easy to create) - is centered on using a tool called wordle - embeds wordles within the wiki - uses a Google form (go to "Today's Wordle" page) to have people submit information - has created a twitter account to advertise/keep participants up to date with information - has created an RSS for those who want to follow new wordles daily

Creating stories using web tools is fun and engaging for student while also teaching them new skills. Best of all you can embed them in blog posts to grab readers; including something a bit different makes reading posts more interesting.

If working in the virtual environment with students, you are likely aware that embedding video and other resources into pages/posts is an important aspect of online literacy. This site gives the user an enhanced interface. Good for more advanced users or for presentations that you want more control over.
