Funded by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, College Open Textbooks is a collection of colleges, governmental agencies, education non-profits, and other education-related organizations that are focused on the mission of driving the awareness and advocacy for open textbooks. This includes providing training for instructors adopting open resources, peer reviews of open textbooks, and mentoring online professional networks that provide support to authors who open their resources. Through our community outreach, we have found that open textbooks should be: easy to use, get and pass around, editable so instructors can customize content, cross-platform compatible, printable, and accessible so they work with adaptive technology.

Free textbooks (aka open textbooks) written by knowledgable scholars are a relatively new phenomenon. Below, find a meta list of 150 Free Textbooks, and check back often for new additions. Also see our online collection of Free Courses.

"Flat World Knowledge, a free, open source textbook publisher, has announced plans to add support for direct integration of its books into campus learning management systems (LMS) like Blackboard and ANGEL. With Flat World's LMS-supported textbooks, professors and publishers will be able to include supplementary material content in its entirety available directly on the platform and split up chapters into various folders according to their syllabus. " Their contents are expanding, but the majority of their contents focus on business at this time.

Eleven Learning publishes open-source, community-powered textbooks and etextbooks. We intend for this blog to be a resource for authors and educators looking for new solutions to the Textbook Problem.

Open Text Book is a registry of textbooks (and related materials) which are open - that is free for anyone to use, reuse and redistribute. It is run by the Open Knowledge Foundation.The domain name was kindly donated to us by Steve Coast of Open Street Map.

An e-Pack may include learning materials, multimedia elements, and assessments. The quality and the features of e-Packs varies tremendously. Please e-mail your instructional designer if you find an e-Pack you would like to view. We can upload the e-Pack to a Webcourses@UCF practice account for your review. There is no cost for a faculty member to view an e-Pack. If you decide to use one, your students may be charged an access fee. The fee charged to students varies and is generally part of a bundled textbook product. Search the ePacks area for possible ePacks in your discipline.

The Orange Grove Florida's Digital Repository & Orange Grove Texts Plus are libraries for your to browse/search for learning objects and open textbooks.

The Assayer is the web's largest catalog of books whose authors have made them available for free. Users can also submit reviews. The site has been around since 2000, and is a particularly good place to find free books about math, science, and computers. If you're looking for old books that have fallen into the public domain, you're more likely to find what you want at Project Gutenberg.
