The Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning is your host for your Academic New Faculty Orientation. The one-and-a-half-day event is scheduled for August 17-18, 2009 in the Student Union and Classroom 1 buildings on the Orlando Campus. Each day of the orientation is filled with important activities that will provide valuable information to enable you to have a successful start to your career at UCF. At the Academic Orientation you will meet the President, Provost, Deans, Chairs, Directors, and other new faculty. These days also include breakfast and luncheon events.

The Faculty Center at UCF was created to serve faculty. Their primary mission is to support and promote faculty in their roles as teachers, researchers, scholars, and as members of UCF and the Central Florida community. Their services, resources, and events are available to all university instructors, including full-time and part-time faculty and graduate teaching assistants.

Accommodations and Universal Design The best accommodations are unique to the individual and develop from a cooperative relationship between the faculty member and the student, sometimes with the assistance of the campus disabled student services office. In this area of The Faculty Room you will learn strategies for fully including students with disabilities in your course activities. You will also read case studies and answers to questions faculty members frequently ask about accommodating students with disabilities in their classes. The section on universal design tells how to be pro-active in creating an inclusive learning environment. Much of the content is duplicated in other publications, training materials, and web pages published by DO-IT.

Faculty Feedback UCF's Information Literacy Modules are developed in an open process with on-going faculty feedback. Along with general information sessions, venues for feedback include: face-to-face sessions in which new modules are available for hands-on preview comment and online polling through which faculty preferences for proposed topics are collected.

The UCF Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Department is committed to supporting the research of UCF faculty members. In addition to interlibrary loan services, we offer a faculty document delivery service which provides scanned copies of UCF-owned journals and books held at the Circulation Desk for quick pickup. Document Delivery requests may be submitted through the ILLiad interlibrary loan system and are automatically requested via interlibrary loan if there is no copy available at the UCF Main Library. The Research Initiative for Teaching Effectiveness supports UCF faculty in formulating and implementing research on effective teaching practices in higher education. The RITE group supports UCF faculty in formulating and implementing research on effective teaching practices in higher education. An earlier version of their presentation during their IDL6543 seminar is also available at their Web site.

The Online@UCF Support provides immediate and personal support for faculty and staff who offer online Webcourses@UCF. Supporting a wide range of online faculty needs, Online@UCF Support offers phone, e-mail, and scheduled face-to-face support sessions, as well as group workshops throughout the academic year.

The MERLOT ELIXR Initiative offers a digital case story repository that hosts over 60 discipline-specific multimedia stories. Digital stories for faculty development can provide real-life experiences of exemplary teaching strategies and the process of implementing them. These digital case stories can be used freely in faculty development programs and also accessed by individual instructors.

The Instructional Technology Group (ITG) provides immediate and personal support for faculty and staff who offer online Webcourses@UCF. Supporting a wide range of online faculty needs, ITG offers phone, e-mail, and scheduled face-to-face support sessions, as well as group workshops throughout the academic year.

Welcome to myUCF! myUCF provides UCF staff, faculty, and students with a personalized gateway to information and applications from one secure, centralized location. Each user has access to various Web systems and tools based upon their roles within the university community. Users are able to personalize their pages to suit their particular needs. Additional help is available for personalizing your portal page by clicking on "Help" located near the upper right side of myUCF. Welcome to Behind the Blackboard! This is where Blackboard system administrators can find support, download software, obtain reference materials, and manage their Blackboard account. For students, faculty, and instructional designers Behind the Blackboard is the perfect supplement to your primary campus helpdesk!

Digital Content or e-Packs consist of publisher-created digital content that is ready to use in your Webcourses@UCF account. An e-Pack may include learning materials, multimedia elements, and assessments. The quality and the features of e-Packs varies tremendously. Please e-mail your instructional designer if you find an e-Pack you would like to view. We can upload the e-Pack to a Webcourses@UCF practice account for your review. There is no cost for a faculty member to view an e-Pack. If you decide to use one, your students may be charged an access fee. The fee charged to students varies and is generally part of a bundled textbook product. Search the ePacks area for possible ePacks in your discipline.

Distributed learning policies at UCF recognize the variety of distributed learning modes and the evolving and respective stages of development of each mode. Therefore, the following policies are couched in terms of the delivery mode, as well as the stage of development of a specific mode and the instructor's experience and level of involvement. Policies are provided for assignment, compensation, reuse of materials and software, intellectual property rights, and academic freedom. Policies herein apply existing University policies or Board of Regents - United Faculty of Florida (BOR-UFF) Bargaining Agreement requirements to Distributed Learning (DL) teaching and learning environments.
