James 3:1 NASB - The Tongue Is a Fire - Let not many of - Bible Gateway - 0 views

  •
All Jesus Followers responsibility before God as sharers/communicators/coaches/teachers is clearly stated in James 3:1 . When our sharing/communicating/teaching involves The Gospel, error actually incurs a curse according to Galatians 1:9 at Therefore, each Jesus Following communicator/coach/teacher must take responsibility for the information we transmit to ensure its integrity. More importantly, we are wise to be actively sceptical about the information we receive ...especially over the Internet where it's so easy to defraud and be defrauded. We ought to do the best we know how to check the facts, investigate the evidence, and evaluate all research for ourselves. Finally, we honour Jesus better when we regularly re-recommit to being rigorous, lifelong learners ourselves ...for it is only with knowledge that we can wisely & prayerfully evaluate the claims that we encounter.

In His "Sermon on the Mount", quoted in Matthew 5:1-11 from God's "New Covenant" with those who would Follow Him, Yeshua (Jesus/ Isa), the First Century Palestinian, shares with His first Disciples (Learners) what has become know since antiquity as "The Beatitudes", part of His "Sermon on the Mount". Yeshua's public talks always were directed primarily at His then and future Followers. Only secondarily did He intend what He was sharing for the thousands of people often listening in on His teachings. Huge crows always followed Yeshua because of His popularity as a Rabbi (Teacher) and the power of what He said. People at the time and since say his talks were inferior to those of anyone who had come to them before Him. (Matthew 7:28) No one who has come after Yeshua the Messiah has come close to his power and influence ...including Muhammad, Islam's principal Prophet. This will be attested to by anyone who actually reads what these two men said in both the Gospels and the Qur'an rather than believing what they are told by their religious leaders or family members. For His Followers, Jesus' words are a road map for their post-salvation lives as born-again people. What they meant to the crows you can discover in my Sticky note below. gfp (2011-10-24)

"Why Jesus Came and Walked the Earth" - Bible Gateway - 0 views

  • John 3:16-17
    • Gary Patton

In John 3:16-17, God, The Heavenly Father shares in a nutshell His "Gospel". Gospel is the English translation of the Greek meaning "Good News". The Good News is that about Jesus' gift to every person on earth and His coming to live in His Followers in the person of God the Holy Spirit! Jesus is the English translation used for God the Son's original Hebrew name, Yeshua. GaryFPatton (gfp '42™ 2011-09-08)
  • only begotten Son
  • He (B)gave His [a](C)only begotten Son
    • Gary Patton

The King James Version (KJV), the New American Standard Bible (NASB) and other modern translations of the Christian Bible use the older English word "begotten" in this verse. Begotten, the progressive tense of the verb "begat" would be better translated in all Bible versions as "one and only". Begotten in the context of this verse does NOT mean procreation by sexual intercourse as it does when referring to humans and animals. The latter is what the Islamic Qur'an argues in Surah 23:89-91. Because of the Islamic teaching about the meaning of begat, I like "The Message (MSG)" paraphrase of the Greek for "one and only" at http://diigo.com/0n225 . There the writer uses "one of a kind". I feel that "one of a kind" in lieu of "one and only" is a more modern and still accurate expression. It also is clearer in confirming the "oneness of Father, Son and Holy Spirit", the plurality within the Oneness of God. This is what Christians call "The Trinity of God" although that expression is not used in the Bible. God, obviously, does not have sex with humans. And no Christian believes that He does. A so-called, Christian contemporary of the Muslim Prophet, Muhammad, may have improperly explained the Gospel ("Good News") of Yeshua /Jesus to him. History documents that some of those calling themselves Christians in Arabia in the 7th Century were NOT truly Followers of Jesus. They had a poor understanding of the Christian Scriptures as nominal believers ...like some so-called Muslims, then and now. The cult to which some of these belonged and with whom Muhammad may have had contact or received reports about also believed that Jesus had sex with Mary, a Follower of His. These nominal Christians were really pagans with an incomplete understanding of what followership of Jesus entailed. If Muhammad had not received this misinformation about what Christians believed, He would not have recorded Qur'an 5:116, 6:101, 19:35, 19:88-91, 23:88-89 nor similar passages that deny Jesus

"Saved" in this verse means "redeemed", "set free from" the judgement of separation from God and His presence after death...forever and without escape.

These passages from John 14 were shared by my Friend, Bruce Malcolm, at the Funeral service for my Mom, Ina Donelda Patton (aka Donnie (family) & Donna (friends). These passages confirm the eternal promise of Jesus to His Followers, of which my Mom was one, that they will spend eternity with Him in His mansions in heaven. Each human is a "spiritual being in a temporary earth suit". And, therefore, we each will live forever. The only question is where we will spend the non-earthly part of our eternity ...in what Jesus called "heaven" or "hell". The answer to that question depends solely on whether one chooses to believe that Jesus was "a liar", "a lunatic" or "Lord" of us all and "God Incarnate", His eternal "Son" who choose to die on a cross to pay the full penalty for our sin nature & sins which our "good works" cannot pay for. In addition to the above passages, another Friend, Adele Van Caulart, read Psalm 23 ...another source of great assurance of God's love and His peace for my Mom and me. gfp (2012-04-04)

    • Gary Patton

The Apostle Paul agrees with Ms. Lamott, (1954- ) U.S. author. He suggests that we allow Holy Spirit to control that dangerous neighbourhood in Galatians 5:16-17 &25 as well as 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 . gfp
  • Thinking becomes harmful when it takes total control of our behavior - so we can't freely choose but feel compelled to act. In other words, conscious choice is absent.
  • We have assigned our minds an aristocratic nobility so that our thinking often reigns supreme over our feelings and intuitions, which are often denied in the process.
  • Mystics and spiritual teachers tell us about the trap that our egoic minds represent, and how our egoic thinking prevents us from having "the relationship of all relationships" that so many people yearn for.
  • many if not most of people's problems stem from egoic thinking which leads to worry, anxiety, depression and fear.
  • We are the most sedated society in the world
  • Surrender to a Higher Power - "a power greater than ourselves" - was the answer created by the founders of A.A. along with a supportive community of fellow alcoholics who knew what it was like - who could identify with the hopelessness, fear, and powerlessness that went with the addiction.
  • So how do we stop thinking? We can't stop all thinking but we'd be far healthier if we could end the compulsiveness and only engage with generative thinking - thinking that creates, explains, challenges and contributes to wisdom and understanding. Compulsiveness is the problem, not thinking itself.
  • Einstein told us decades ago that we'd never solve our problems with the same consciousness that created them. The same thinking that made the messes cannot get us out of them. We have evolved to such a degree that we must surrender to a power greater than our egoic minds if we are to transcend the conditions we find undesirable - personally, organizationally and societally.

  • One potentially appropriate therapy for procrastination lies in teaching something akin to time management
  • it is desirable that not only that there should be an interval free from conscious thought on the particular problem concerned, but also that that interval should be so spent that nothing should interfere with the free working of the unconscious or partially unconscious processes of the mind. In those cases, the stage of incubation should include a large amount of actual mental relaxation"

Might it not have been more understandable for his readers for this academic to have simply said: "When you have a really difficult problem ...go to sleep!" Or: "Take a shower!" The latter usually works best for me. And to enhance the former, I keep a pad & pen on my bed-side table so I can jot down a quickie reminder, without really waking up, because I seldom can rember my brialliant idea in the morning?
