Lifestyle Evangelism Refuted - Dr. Curtis Hutson - 0 views

  • Lifestyle Evangelism Refuted
  • Joseph Aldrich said, "Sometimes the only exposure to evangelism for believers is being part of a weekly task force on a 'spiritual safari' into enemy territory. On such forays total strangers are confronted with a verbal message said to be the Gospel."
  • Rather, they feel they are simply obeying the Great Commission, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15).
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • Nowhere in Scripture is the Christian told to incarnate the Gospel.
  • "button-holing and evangelical mugging."
  • This false philosophy teaches that we witness with our life rather than our lips.
  •
Dr. Hutson refutes something that Joseph Aldrich never taught and many practitioners do do by "cheery-picking" short quotes from Mr. Aldrich's book. GaryFPatton (gfp '42™ 2012-07-30) Few Jesus Followers I know use only their behaviour and deeds to be used by Holy Spirit to draw their friends, neighbours, relatives, and workmates to a saving knowledge of Jesus of Nazareth.

"Why Zombies Should Matter" - 0 views

  • Why Zombies Should Matter to Christians
  • Zombies now are featured in top-rated cable TV shows, and in apocalyptic novels and survival guides.
  • The zombie myth is rooted in something quite real, and quite terrifying. The zombie stories emerged in a Caribbean context of brutal slavery. The zombie’s horror is that he is, she writes, a slave forever. After all, if even death cannot free you, you can never be free.
  • ...11 more annotations...
  • That’s exactly the point, and here’s why it should matter to Christians.
  • They are horrifying because they represent what ought to repulse us: the rotting decay of death. But they still walk. And, beyond that, they still crave. In their search for human brains, they are driven along by their appetites, though always under the sway of a slavemaster’s will.
  • That’s our story
  • The biblical story of the Fall of humanity is one of a humanity that comes under the sway of death by obeying the appetite.
  • He sentences us to the curse of death so that, ultimately, we can be redeemed.
  • The Gospel tells us that, apart from Christ, we were walking in the flesh, that is slavishly obeying our biological impulses and appetites without the direction of the Spirit. As such, we were “dead in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1).
  • This walking death, the Apostle Paul writes, was driven along as we “carried out the desires of the body and the mind” (Ephesians 2:3).
  • Caribbean people could resonate with the horror of zombies because they knew what it was like to be enslaved by evil people, with no hope of escape.
  • The Gospel doesn’t just extend our lives forever into eternity. That’s what we, left to ourselves, think we want.
  • Jesus points out that he wants to eternalize his present state rather than to be hidden in the life of Jesus Himself. That’s a zombie walk, and Jesus loves us too much for that.
  • Jesus offers instead life, and that abundantly, as we eat of His flesh, drink of His blood, share in His triumph over the accusing slavemaster.

Hell ...Is it Real? - 0 views

  • Is Salvation A Deliverance From Hell or Eternal Death?
  •
feels commonly held interpretations of heaven and hell plus salvation are misrepresentations of what Jesus and the Scriptures actually said when one carefully examines His comments and the Greek of His and other quotes in the Bible plus the reader places them in a proper cultural context. He suggests, current interpretations of these three issues, heaven, hell and salvation's way are "the traditions of men" which the Bible warns about Jesus Followers being tripped up by. gfp (2012-05-04)

  • Expect Value Added in Names
    • Gary Patton

According to brain researcher, Ellen Weber, neuroscience has proven the power of using people's names. Speak people's names when in their presence, and research confirms you also spark their brain's sense of worth, add value to their day and motivate them when you use their name to encourage them. gfp (2012-04-01)

  • It’s not easy to remember names, since brains are more equipped to forget a name than to remember one. How so?
  • To hear your name spoken respectfully, is to spike wellbeing in the area of the brain that operates personal self-awareness.

In His "Sermon on the Mount", quoted in Matthew 5:1-11 from God's "New Covenant" with those who would Follow Him, Yeshua (Jesus/ Isa), the First Century Palestinian, shares with His first Disciples (Learners) what has become know since antiquity as "The Beatitudes", part of His "Sermon on the Mount". Yeshua's public talks always were directed primarily at His then and future Followers. Only secondarily did He intend what He was sharing for the thousands of people often listening in on His teachings. Huge crows always followed Yeshua because of His popularity as a Rabbi (Teacher) and the power of what He said. People at the time and since say his talks were inferior to those of anyone who had come to them before Him. (Matthew 7:28) No one who has come after Yeshua the Messiah has come close to his power and influence ...including Muhammad, Islam's principal Prophet. This will be attested to by anyone who actually reads what these two men said in both the Gospels and the Qur'an rather than believing what they are told by their religious leaders or family members. For His Followers, Jesus' words are a road map for their post-salvation lives as born-again people. What they meant to the crows you can discover in my Sticky note below. gfp (2011-10-24)
