Given the context of immutable human nature, I'm NOT buying this one. But, I'll stand to be corrected as more Gen Ys grow to maturity and more responsibilities in our cruel, hard world of student loans in the context of family commitments.
If you're just entering the work force or applying for a new job, don't make the terrible mistake of 64% of college students who ask about their prospective empoyer's social media usage policies in the middle of their job interviews.
Approximately 24% also foolishly say it would be a key factor in accepting the offer.
If you want to use social media when you're supposed to be working, unless you're being hired to make business posts for you're empoyer, set up your own company because the business world is NOT going to accomodate your preferences on their dime!
Cisco recently published its Connected World Report, the results of which are quite shocking.
Out of 2,800 college students and young professionals under the age of 30 and hailing from 14 countries, approximately one in three said he/she would prioritize social media freedom, device flexibility and work mobility over salary in accepting a job offer.
Please note, I'm using red to highligt these statements because of the total lack of wisdom in these behaviours, in my opinion! And I'm the first to admit that I'm an ole guy! But, 45 years of business and industry experince as a consultant has got to warn you ...a little, at least, that I may be correct. gfp

This is an incredible comment on the lack of wisdom and the sense of entitlement that too many parents of GenY's have inculcated in them, in my opinion.
In 2012's and future difficult job markets where few will have the kinds of fulltime jobs prior generations had, this is unbelievably unwise.
A Generation Y and Facebook study done by Millennial Branding and Identified shows that Gen-Yers are using their personal networks and profiles as an extension of their professional personality. Even though they are using Facebook to mostly socialize with family and friends, they are inadvertently blending the two.
And when you're asked to prove the value-added you are bringing to your organization by this currently ozymoronic blend, you'll be OK ONLY have you have solid, verifiable proof that you're adding value. Otherwise, you'll probably be fired! The market's full of others who will do it the way most CEOs still want it done ...without attitude or compalining.
You can change your organization's culture when you are rewarded, for your value-adding in the way your boss wants it done, by being promoted to senior management.
In the meantime: "Do it their way!" ...not Frank Sinatra's recommended "my way"!
They are job hopping multiple times in their careers.
What's the big deal here!
It's only members of GenAncient and too many empoyeees in bureaucracies and unions who stayed with one or two organizations thoughout their working life.
I started work after University in 1966 and have changed career directions about 10 times even after setting up my own company in 1984 ...when many GenY's weren't even born!
If large corporations want to remain competitive, they need to aggressively recruit Gen-Y workers
And if GenYs are S-M-A-R-T, they'll resist any allures to get into big business. Set up your own company and retain a measure of freedom.
"Rich Dad" in Robert Kiyosaki's "Rich Dad; Poor Dad" wass right on with his advice to students now and in the forseeable future. And if you don't know what that advice was, your in trouble in the 21st Century economy that I foresee.
These studies show that if companies want to retain young talent, they need to display trust in their young workforce and allow Gen-Yers to operate entrepreneurially within the corporation by giving them control over their time and activities.
While I agree this is accurate for many young people who control their attitude and sense of entitlement, most senior managements don't buy this and they currently run the business world.
So get over it for now if you want a job-job!
Your best route however is: "Set up your own shop ASAP ..or get with the program!!" ~ gfp '42™

This article and, particularly its links demonstarte the lie=beral craziness coming out of the pseudo-education bureaucrats and the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.
During her near-death experience, she says she chatted with her dead grandmother and uncle, who escorted her back to the operating room.
My uncle pushed me," she says, laughing.
"From a scientific perspective," he says, "I have absolutely no explanation about how it could have happened."
Spetzler did not check out all the details, but Michael Sabom did. Sabom is a cardiologist in Atlanta who was researching near-death experiences.
what she said happened to her is actually what Spetzler did with her out in Arizona
How, Sabom wonders, could she know these things?
"She could not have heard [it], because of what they did to her ears," he says. "In addition, both of her eyes were taped shut, so she couldn't open her eyes and see what was going on. So her physical sensory perception was off the table."
That's preposterous, says anesthesiologist Gerald Woerlee. "This report provides absolutely no evidence for survival of any sort of consciousness outside the body during near-death experiences or any other such experiences," he says.
Woerlee, an Australian researcher and near-death experience debunker who has investigated Reynolds' case, says what happened to her is easy to explain.
"There are various explanations," Woerlee says. "One: that the earphones or plugs were not that tightly fitting. Two: It could have been that it was due to sound transmission through the operating table itself." So Reynolds could have heard conversations. As for seeing the Midas Rex bone saw, he says, she recognized a sound from her childhood.
That doesn't convince cardiologist Sabom or neurosurgeon Spetzler. They believe the combination of anesthesia and the sluggish brain activity caused by hypothermia meant that Reynolds could not form or retain memories for a significant part of the operation. At the very least, Sabom says, Reynolds' story raises the possibility that consciousness can function even when the brain is offline.
In the end, Reynolds' story is just an anecdote. And in fact, that's the problem with all the studies of near-death experiences.
it seems that these people have a different sort of brain," Beauregard says in his soft French accent. "It's like there's a shift in their brain, and this shift will allow these people to stay in touch with the spiritual world more easily, on a daily basis."
"It's like the near-death experience triggered something at a neural level in the brain," he said. "And perhaps this change, in terms of brain activity, is sort of permanent."
Their brains in the spiritual state look a lot like those of Catholic nuns and Buddhist monks who have spent tens of thousands of hours in prayer and meditation. Both groups showed extremely slow brain wave activity
The researchers also saw significant changes in brain regions associated with positive emotions, attention and personal boundaries, as subjects who had had near-death experiences lost their sense of their physical bodies and merged with God or the "light."
Skeptic Woerlee says there's nothing remarkable — and certainly nothing spiritual — about these findings.
It's brain chemistry, he says, not a trip to heaven.
n other words, Woerlee a
nd Beauregard looked at the same images and came to opposite conclusions.
