The OpenLearn website gives free access to Open University course materials.

The Open University has published a research report which is now available online The report evaluates the impact OpenLearn has had internally and externally and the challenges that lie ahead in open content and establishing open learning networks. "OpenLearn has been a really fascinating research opportunity. We wanted to find out what the impact was on us as an organisation; how we could help other people who wanted to provide their material available for free; and perhaps most importantly, what learners got out of having access to all this open material"

This guide explores the what, why and how of learning objects. It offers practical advice for designing for usability - and reusability; for keeping your learning objects learner-centered and learner-driven; for aligning with current metadata standards; and for making your objects accessible. It includes tips for "marketing" your finished work and points you to resources for follow-up information.

If you're interested in specific open courses, you can find a variety on the Web (or through this list of 100 courses). Usually, those single courses will contain all the materials you need to learn one subject for free. But, if you're after more than a single focus or if you need a deeper perspective on a subject, this list of open courseware collections may be just what you need. Each resource listed below contains a collection or collections of educational materials. You'll find digital archives, a variety of courses, Podcasts, videos and sometimes a mix of everything you can imagine so you can learn any given subject in depth.
