Becoming Learners: Making time for OUR Learning - The Learner's Way - 4 views

  •
At the heart of all that we do as teachers lies the act of learning. Our hope is that our actions inspire our students to engage in a process that results in their acquisition of new knowledge, mastery of new skills and the development of capacities and dispositions which will prepare them for life beyond our classrooms. Increasingly our focus is on developing the skills and dispositions our students require to become life-long learners. We recognise that in a rapidly changing world, the capacity to take charge of your personal learning journey, to become self-navigating learners is essential.

The trouble with Twitter - The Learner's Way - 4 views

  •
Twitter is a great place for educators to share ideas. It has become my go to place when I am looking for something to read, a new idea or some inspiration. It is a great avenue for sharing practice, asking questions and building a community.    But . . .   . . . Twitter has some problems and these seems to be growing. To get the most out of Twitter a degree of caution is advised.

Reflections from The Future of Education Conference - The Learner's Way - 5 views

  •
The Future of Education is a topic often discussed, and at the recent gathering of educators in Florence, it was the title and theme for the conference. Now in its ninth year, The Future of Education is an international conference that attracts educators from around the world and across all domains touched by education. The conference is an inspiring two days of discussion and sharing, with the city of Florence, the centre of the Renaissance, providing a constant reminder of what might be possible when creativity and critical thinking combine. Here are my key takeaways from this event.

6 Upcoming PR Trends - Scroll Mantra - 0 views

  •
Which public relations trends can assist your progress and improvement? These features of the trade can be hard to master, yet they can help you get a head start toward the business's future. Here's what's in store: Endorsing proficiency at all levels In the past, only top-tier directors were put into view as an establishment's industry connoisseurs. Now lower-level personnel are presenting their insights. This has numerous benefits. First, it helps your brand to aim at a broader, more diverse audience and dispense more content. Second, when top officials leave your corporation, they don't leave an information void. Help those at all ranks to grow and cultivate their own individual brand. Inspire them to write thoughtful content and create social media handles that show off their know-how.

"Towards the end of the academic year, it is time for many students to hand in their long-awaited assignments, signalling the end of another semester of inspiring teaching and learning. For their teachers, being faced with a collection of essays can seem overwhelming and being able to check the originality and authenticity of each one could take a considerable amount of time."

Learning about change from a home cooked meal. - The Learner's Way - 1 views

  •
Last week I decided that a good home cooked meal was in order. Lacking inspiration it turned to a recipe book I had been gifted the previous Christmas and found what appeared to be a tasty and nutritious option. I read on with enthusiasm and was soon imaging myself dining on this wholesome meal. If the end result looked half as good as the glossy picture that accompanied the recipe, I would be in luck.

From Good to Great: Writing well by Thinking like Authors - The Learner's Way - 5 views

  •
A common challenge for students and teachers is how to develop a great idea for a piece of writing. Too often students struggle with the process of finding inspiration for their writing. They have a vague idea for the story they hope to tell, but all too quickly it transforms into a list of events with little or no detail. The goal here is to provide our students with a process to use during the planning process. The hope is that by identifying the type of thinking required during the early phases of ideation and to focus their attention on details, that the stories our students subsequently compose will be more enjoyable to read. Hopefully, this process helps.
