This is an Article written by Wendy L. Werner about the importance of mentoring programs. The article discusses the effects that a good mentor can have on an individual. It also discusses how to be a good mentor as well as a good mentee. 

I've seen several mentor programs in which the mentor only wore the title but never actually played an active role in the student's life. So what I liked most about the article is the keypoint that stated that a mentor should "take initiative and make time". I think that if someone is going to be a mentor they must be actively involved in the mentee's life in order for progression to occur. A student is not going to feel that they can confide in their mentor until they have established a relationship. Just like in the classroom, students need to know that educators care. They need to feel a sense of belonging. When educators as well as mentors create a warm, caring environment students are more likely to open up or accomplish task to meet their mentor's or teacher's expectations!

Very good point, Jessica. That is well-said and very important! Because the teachers I liked were the ones I knew and ones who made a difference in my life by the time they gave.

This article gives an overview of K-12 distance education. The article discusses the factors associated with instructional quality and effectiveness.

I found this article interesting because my nephew (who lives with me) is taking a few classes on-line through Texas Tech in order to graduate early. I do think the instructional quality is not as high as an actual teacher and it is not for everyone. A student has to be self-motivated in order for it to work and be effective.

This article contains an example of an innovative teacher tackling a complex issue in a way students will love and remember. That is, she turned a potentially tedious lesson on copyright and fair use rules into an opportunity for students to create scripts, lines, and act out their understanding of the subject!

This article discusses the effectiveness of mentoring and the importance of the relationship between a mentor and an adolescent. 

I really liked this article. My sister is a single mom of 2 pre teens and it is definitely important for children to have other adults they can talk to and relate to to help them avoid feeling isolated and sad. Both of my sister's kids have other important adult figures in their lives and I feel this is the best preventative measure against teen pregnancy, drugs and alcohol, deliquency and high school drop-out. I like how the article also stresses how schools play an important part in being mentors for students. This applies to para professionals and other school workers such as food service and bus drivers, not just teachers. Knowing you can have a positive impact in adolescence is very rewarding in itself.

Here is an activity for teachers to become more familiar with the copyright and fair use policies. Would be great for a principal or administrator to give to faculty.

I thought the activity would be great to use also it seemed like an activity that would be fun for students not so much for teachers. The only thing is I was trying to use the link and it wouldnt allow me access to the information.

I enjoyed this article a great deal. I think that it is important for educators to learn more about differentiated instruction. I like how the article said that "teachers need to plan their lessons to adjust to the learners". This is becoming even more true with today's students. The tips list provided has some very good suggestions. One tip that jumped out to me was having student portfolios. This relates to one of my research topics, interactive notebooks.

An article written by Kate Garette on the many different ways that general education classes can be threatening to students with learning disabilities and ways to help the situation. 

This is an animoto that provides an example of how technology can be used in the classroom. It also briefly shows that teachers should know how and when to use technology to get students involved and/or engaged in the learning process.

Interesting animoto I might add. Teachers should utilize every resource that is available to them in the classroom. Sometimes discussions can be dry and boring when you utilize the same chalk or blackboard. The only problem is that you have to monitor student's use of the computer on a regular basis. Do not get me wrong I enjoy having computers in my classroom. You just need to make sure that students are constantly following the AUP policy in the district that you teach.

I really liked that animoto. It is one that I think that should start off the school year at a faulity meeting. There are so many ways to use technology and keep students engaged. I wish that some of people at my school would stop being so scared to use it.

Numbers play a major part particularly in this article that was written about Athletic scholarships. The numbers that are spoken about here are not a players statistics but instead how many athletes are actually trying to earn an athletic scholarship and the chances of them getting one. It talks about how to get one and all the things that are needed. The more information gathered on this topic the more you can get rid of all the little errors many prospective athletes make.

This article provides a simple overview of copyright laws for educators.

In this article not only does it list all the things that teachers should avoid from doing but it also has information for the students. It list how the classroom can use the internet appropriately without breaking any laws and the reasons why these laws even came about.

This is an interesting article. Since my content area is business education, integrating technology in the classroom is a huge topic. As an educator, I have to know what is legal and illegal. Especially, when communicating copyright laws to the students. I think this article is a useful tool for educators to use in the classroom. I like how the article mentions that the rules that apply to students apply to teachers as well. We as educators have to abide by copyright laws just as students should. I also like the fact that this article outlines the guidelines that educators should follow in the classroom so that they can use as a reference.

This article explains what STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, ans Mathmatics) education is all about. It also discussed some of its benefits.

According to this article, regular use of computers has an effect on student performance. In this study, they used 986 fourth graders from 55 classrooms in nine Massachusetts school districts. Most of the students only used computers to write their papers. However, they found that students that used their computers for fun and games had a negative effect on students reading scores. As long as students used the computers for writing purposes this had positive effects on their test scores.

Participants in this study included 122 preschool children, which included 57 boys and 65 girls in a head start program. The results indicated that 53% of the participants had a home computer and 83% had children software. There were 29% that played on their home computers daily. An additional 44% of the children played on the computer on a weekly basis. Children that had computer access showed improvement measures in cognitive development in this particular study.
