Appropriate Oxygen Levels for Extremely Preterm Infants: a Prospective Meta-analysis - ... - 0 views

  •
"For over 60 years the most appropriate oxygen level for preterm babies remains unknown. To answer this, we will combine data from over 5300 babies to be sure the expected benefits of lower oxygen for babies' eyes and lungs does not come at the expense of increasing death or major disability in these children. Planning to do this before the results of any of the trials are known is called a prospective meta-analysis. This is the first time this technique has been used in neonatal medicine.

Sense of coherence and parenting stress in mothers... [J Intellect Dev Disabil. 2006] -... - 0 views

  •
2006 Study ssessing: "Sense of coherence and parenting stress in mothers and fathers of preschool children with developmental disability. RESULTS: Mothers and fathers of children with DD reported high levels of parenting stress, with 84% of mothers' and 67% of fathers' scores falling within the clinical range. Parents of children with DD consistently reported higher levels of parenting stress, weaker SOC, and, for mothers and parents in 2-parent families, poorer health than parents of children without DD. Within families, mothers of children with DD reported poorer health, higher levels of parenting stress, and weaker SOC than their partners. There were no significant differences in reported health, parenting stress, or SOC between parents of children without DD.

Comparison of Different Oxygen Delivery Strategies During Resuscitation of Babies - Uni... - 0 views

  •
Preterm infants are born with immature lungs and often require help with breathing shortly after birth. This currently involves administering 100% oxygen. Unfortunately, delivery of high oxygen concentrations leads to the production of free radicals that can injure many organ systems. Term and near-term newborns deprived of oxygen during or prior to birth respond as well or better to resuscitation with room air (21% oxygen) compared to 100% oxygen. However, a static concentration of 21% oxygen may be inappropriate for preterm infants with lung disease. Our study will investigate how adjusting the amount of oxygen given to sick preterm newborns will affect the ability to maintain a safe oxygen level in their blood

Pharmacokinetics of Immediate-Release vs. Delayed-Release Omeprazole in Gastroparesis - 0 views

  •
Completed study comparing the blood drug levels of two prescribed medications, Immediate-release omeprazole 40 mg powder and delayed-release omeprazole 40 mg capsule to determine which drug is better absorbed in patients with a slow stomach emptying (gastroparesis). Delayed-release omeprazole has a protective coating to prevent the drug omeprazole from being neutralized by stomach acid. Immediate-release omeprazole has sodium bicarbonate (antacid) which neutralizes the stomach acid, eliminating the need for a protective coating. Immediate-release omeprazole suspension may have a more rapid pharmacokinetic profile and greater overall drug absorption in gastroparesis.
