Half of UK companies risk "corporate suicide" by banning Facebook and Twitter - Marketing News | UTalkMarketing - 1 views

  • Facebook is such a popular application that is so widely used for personal and business uses, it makes no business sense to ban it. If companies do not address this they could be at the mercy of corporate suicide
  • Social networking is like food and drink to Generation Y workers, they are so used to communicating in a more open and collaborative way. Therefore, forward looking companies should be aiming to encourage social media activity amongst their employees rather than stifling it

I couldn't agree more with this final statement stating that social networking is vital to Gen Y workers. We communicate more openly and collaboratively through this medium. And it should be encouraged rather than being stopped.
  •
Thanks Kartini! I strongly agree too. To add on to your point, I think for the Gen-Yers, social media tools also facilitate on-going collaboration by engaging the emotive power of relational bonds to help bring everyone onto the same page. I remember reading this in my Media Theories module: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agenda-setting_theory... hope you find it relevant! "Agenda-setting theory is the theory that the news media have a large influence on audiences by their choice of what stories to consider newsworthy and how much prominence and space to give them. Agenda-setting theory's main postulate is salience transfer. Salience transfer is the ability of the news media to transfer issues of importance from their news media agendas to public agendas. Through their day-by-day selection and display of the news, editors and news directors focus our attention and influence our perceptions of what are the most important issues of the day. This ability to influence the salience of topics on the public agenda has come to be called the agenda setting role of the news media."

Spotlight on Mobile Gaming Part 1 of 2: The Rise of Mobile Gaming - 0 views

  • But why exactly have these kinds of games taken off in recent years? The answer to this question lies in the overall technological trend of making devices that are a “one stop shop” for people. Electronic devices have been increasing in functionality for years, but the introduction of devices like Smart phones and tablets are fantastic examples of this catch-all product that has increased in popularity recently.

Prepare Yourselves: Facebook To Be Profoundly Changed - 0 views

  • Facebook launched three recent changes: revamped Friend Lists, a real-time news ticker, and the subscribe button. Friend Lists lets you share content with just your closest friends (with whom you have the strongest emotional connection), and the ticker lets you have real-time conversations with your friends as soon as they do anything. Subscribe lets you fill your News Feed with people you admire and respect, fostering a different type of emotional connection. But these changes are just the beginning. The changes Facebook will roll out on Thursday are designed to enhance the emotional connection its users have to each other through Facebook. These changes will make Facebook a place where nearly everything in your life is enhanced by your social graph. These changes will make it so you know your friends better than you ever thought you could. On Thursday, developers will be elated, users will be shellshocked and the competition will look ancient. On Thursday, Facebook will be reborn. Prepare yourselves for the evolution of social networking.

Mr Edmund Lim's teaching and learning journey - 8 views

  •
Was chatting with a pri-school teacher friend of mine yesterday, and he casually mentioned that he had created his own e-portfolio using Google Sites too. I checked his e-portfolio out and I found it very inspiring - all the more since it's a classic showcase of what an e-portfolio can be - and one done by one of our own working Singaporean school teachers some more. :) Hopefully this example should help towards dispelling the misconception that e-portfolios are a high-tech "waste of time" that only adds extra to a teacher's workload.
  •
Excellent find. It's something to showcase should anyone ask for examples of non-LMS type e-portfolios.

Adobe new webpage tool - create html pages without efforts as long you know indesign/ prints. I think this is very efficient as it cut the workflow from photoshop/firework design -> slice -> dreamweaver-> coding to just Muse -> end product Also we should look into this if we are doing thing like interactive book , epub etc. very useful for people who already know indesign.
