    Yes, I agree, we can't just immediately dismiss social media in the classroom because of safety issues. We have to learn ways to work with them.

      We often tell our students to avoid doing research online and to go to the library. However, we should be encouraging both. The issue with online is credibility of source. Students need to practice determining which are scholarly sources, worth of paper citation, and which are not.

    Same as Anne! I only new about VoiceThread when I started Carla17 online course. Thanks for sharing this information. We can continue learning about all the advantages of it: free, facilitates learning through authentic materials, different modalities of response: oral, written, video, doodle.

      I like Padlet because it seems it is a simple tool to get our students participate inside/outside the classroom. Sometimes students feel frustrated when they struggle with technology and then they have to figure out how to develop the task. So presenting the students easy ways to learn through technology can lower this cognitive overload.

      Adrianne, I found the site with a lot of information. I particularly enjoyed "Virtual Exchanges in the Foreign Language Classroom." It explains how to make the target language more accessible to students allowing for an understanding of perspectives and practices. Good outline of benefits of virtual exchanges.

      I love the way UC Davis has the week split up. I'm wondering if they run into students with conflicts with the synchronous schedule? How much coordination does it take? How many hours is the instructor putting in on Thursdays and Fridays meeting with students? I love the idea, just need to see how it works in practice.

      It is true that more students do tend to "fall through the cracks" in online classes. A short workshop that preps them for success in online classes would be ideal. If not, we should address it in the courses themselves.

      The activity we did with FlipGrid at the beginning of the course was similar in purpose to doing an icebreaker activity in Zoom. Even though our small group interactions were asynchronous, having those visual interactions with FlipGrid and other tools helped make me feel more connected with my coursemates.
