Offers songs in multiple European languages with text lyrics which you can manipulate as cloze activities. Lots of student control to repeat lines of a song, click on tab to show an answer to a missing lyric, etc. Students ign-up to keep a record of songs and the tasks completed. Provides 3 different levels of activity; e.g., "expert" is total cloze.

Type in a few words to find a song and the lyrics, often with a link to a YouTube video of the singer. Might be very good for a student project: have them find a song they like, learn the lyrics, perform for the class (use the YouTube video for the backup band). Beware: students might find some raunchy rap tunes, hence more appropriate for mature students

"A fun method to learn and improve your foreign languages like English through music and typing in song lyrics" This is an activity that many of us like to use in the EFL/ESL classroom, and here it is online. There are at least six languages and a fairly wide set of choices in songs.

Another of Nik Peachey's excellent blog entries, this one included ideas for teaching and an example activity for students: "I've found that in class most students enjoy lessons based around songs or music. Teaching English through Songs in the Digital Age is the first of 4 articles on this topic in this blog. This might be of interest to many, as music is a great way to interest students and to give them a sense of the rhythm, lyricism, and poetry of language.

Type in a few words and Lyreach will show you the words and a link to a YouTube video of a singer. Nice idea, and might lead to some projects for students: find the song, learn the lyrics, sing for the class.

The first one is about the Declaration of Independence and uses One Republic's Too Late to Apologize. The focus of the second video is women's suffrage and it uses Lady Gaga's Bad Romance to tell this important story." Maybe these could be a model for student-created videos.

This site, The Blues Maker, as described by Nik Peachey, lets the user create his/her own blues tune, and as Nik points out, is an excellent way to improve listening skills, vocabulary, and pronunciation. The 10 steps are an excellent project to help students begin to learn more about this type of American (and now international) music.

A great place to find poetry online. Search almost 800,000 poems by 78,000+ poets, songs, quotations, etc. Also has a forum for discussing various aspects of poetry. You can collect favorite poems, read a poem of the day, and browse through poetry links and contests. Great literature site.

Songs/music videos with lyrics side-by-side. Should be great for teens and young adult learners. (Also great if you never could understand those words!)
