At last the answer to my wishes: A free video converter that transforms the Mac .mov format into almost any desired other format, including Mpeg4, FLV, and AVI. Despite the goofy name, QTAmateur.app, this little gem will make it easy to convert your Powerpoint movies into video that can be uploaded to YouTube and viewed on mobile phones, etc. Thank you Anvsoft, Inc. It also supports English, French, German, and Japanese.

Offers songs in multiple European languages with text lyrics which you can manipulate as cloze activities. Lots of student control to repeat lines of a song, click on tab to show an answer to a missing lyric, etc. Students ign-up to keep a record of songs and the tasks completed. Provides 3 different levels of activity; e.g., "expert" is total cloze.

While these are mostly translation tools, there are a number of interesting apps on culture as well: French and Italian cuisine, world customs and cultures in gestures and pesonal space, flash cards and tutoring, and "addictive gaming."

Has a very limited list of links to software, but there are reviews. Includes a number of languages.

You can use a number of different languages, including Mandarin. Games have points, awards, and leader boards to incourage study, and "community" for sharing.

A great collection of links to poetry of the ages for all ages. Divided geogrpahically by sources of poetry: Poetry of Africa, Poetry of the Americas, etc., and by specific authors, e.g., Mahmou Dariwsh, Vinicious de Morais, etc. Some bilingual.

Put in a Web address and lingro turns all the words into clickable links to a dictionary. You can hear the word read out. Further it remembers the words and lets you review and study them. Not specifically for ESL/EFL. Nice that you can use the flashcards on- or off-line.

You can keep track of what you learn from native speakers, who help you with your written efforts--all-volunteer, all non-professional, with very little advertising. An instructional video is availalbe and there are dozens of native languages to practice.
