R. Byrne: "A featured resource on MoMA Learning is this video containing five tips for teaching with works of art. The video not only lists the tips, it contains examples of using these tips to teach art history and art appreciation lessons to students." Most of the great art museums and natural history museums of the world have websites with instructional materials of very high quality. It's worth some time to explore what they offer and figure out how to adapt their resources for your classes. One of the other excellent resources on MoMA Learning is this glossary of art terms. In many cases the definitions in the glossary contain links to multiple examples of each term. This is an advanced set of lessons by R. Stannard on how to manipulate the Prezi interface; begins with how to change your pathways, and how to create your own design starting with the blank screen template.

You can create a Chrome app in about 5 minutes, so this blog article claims. The article also explains in detail how to do this and how to add a Chrome extension to your chrome toolbar.

Shows how and why to use video of yourself during teaching practice to determine how to grow as a professional. Uses only a Flip camera and a tripod.

"Learni.st makes it super easy to share what you know by pointing to existing web resources. You can use videos, blogs, books, documents, images, anything to explain how to learn something. This short video will teach you about the basics of Learnist like how the homepage is laid out and what is on a Learn Board." You will need an invite in this current Beta stage, but I think it will catch on.

This is a tutorial on how to get started at Learni.st, which lets you aggregate neat things you find on the Web. You can add it to your Facebook timeline (or not), Tweet it, and use images and video, while adding a few paragraphs on how to use the "learning" you added. As with a blog, others can comment on your contributions. Like WallWisher or Pinterist, items are collected bulletin board style. This tool might be useful for professional development, and for students as a means to collect Web items for a project. If being an archivist is an important part of the new Web, this might be a helpful visual tool.

f you want to know how to learn English verbs with an iPod, you are in the right place. Rory Ryder has published a book called "101 English Verbs for your iPod", and it is FANTASTIC!

Describes LinoIt and how to use it--a nice brainstorming and student collaboration tool, but it's great to see examples and how it can be used with students. Free.

Hundreds of how-to videos (mainly on lifestyles) that could be used for Hot Pot exercises, particularly for high school-adult classes. Some content may be objectionable to the very strict (e.g. "How to Photograph a Nude Woman," though it is quite tastefully done), but most is highly practical, and some looks very professional. The only thing lacking is a good organizational system, besides its search engine general categories, and tags. A good project would be to have students make their own instructional video to add to the collection.

Encourages the use of synthesis and deeper reading than just "beginning, middle, and end" by having them put together several readings, e.g., about an autistic child and a psychological case study to analyze a character in fiction. Uses case studies from non-fiction articles to create prototypes of, for example, a robot that pushes emotional or intellectual thinking to the extreme. Scenarios from fiction show what their prototypes have and what they need. As they read they are now thinking about how the reading speaks to humans. The video also has a running text commentary that helps visualize how a teacher can make students think about their reading, see patterns, examine their own thought processes and progress. Questions to consider in the margin, as well as connections to the Common Core Standards.

This is a topic I've written and published on, so it's interesting to see another person trying to grapple with the same problem. It's worth exploring repeatedly.
