I think the survey would be a great way to begin a conversation with students about online responsibility. I try to get my teachers to bring their classes to the lab for an intro. covering AUPs, procedures, handling of hardware, etc.. It's a hard sell but I continue to do it anyway.

Ever hear this one? "Aren't you the computer person? Why don't you teach the students how to type?" Be polite and point them to this site.

I found this site while surfing one night. I thought it was pretty interesting so I subscribed to their RSS feed. I use NetNewsWire as my aggregator [feed reader/organizer]. Anyway, I have been trying to get my teachers to use their blogs to get information out to parents, etc. Maybe this blog post can help as a springboard to that end. I see a lot more students using cell phones at my building than there were just a year ago. This observation and the implications was a bit sobering. What challenges does the ubiquitous use of cell phones and other smart devices create for our network safeguards? Is cyberbullying going on in your building(s)? What options do targeted students and parents have for reporting or enacting a grievance against cyberbullying? Are reported correlations of student absenteeism and cyberbulliying accurate? I'd like to post this on our blogs and ask our staffs to weigh in on the topic.

Teacher considers using Apples new iPad to replace her Macbook for classroom use.

"touch-sensitive launch buttons not working (HP Compaq 6515b)" One of my teachers is having an issue with her 6515b where the touch strip is not working. A user suggested first removing the battery and the adapter, then reinsert both and reboot. They claimed it worked for them. But, the user also has a bum battery and adapter. Right now the she is running her computer without the battery, using someones adapter.

Wow! what an I opener. Sociology professor, Kathleen Bogle's comment "...Invincibility factor that young people feel...", really pinpointed what I feel has changed in students since my first year, ten years ago.

NCTA President Kyle McSlarrow said the plan has two goals: "to drive sustainable adoption in populations that currently do not benefit from broadband, and to ... positively affect educational performance among participating students." Sounds great right? But, check out the two posted comments which both bring up good points. Keep track of this program.
