The report also highlights the extent to which smaller or newer groups can benefit from more intensive, regular one-to-one support as they develop and grow, and identifies a range of critical factors that contribute to the successful development and growth of smaller third sector organisations."

Call for proposals 13/11/2009 First deadline: January 16th 2010 Part of the EU's Lifelong Learning Programme, Grundtvig aims to increase participation in adult education, improve co-operation between adult education organisations, and ensure that the socially excluded have access to education - especially those who left education without basic qualifications. Grundtvig supports the following actions: * Visits, placements, adult education exchanges and preparation visits needed to plan exchanges * Learning Partnerships * Multilateral projects for improving adult education systems through development and transfer of innovation and good practice * Networks of experts and organisations developing adult education spreading good practice and supporting partnerships Multilateral projects, Networks, and Accompanying measures are financed directly by the Commission. The first deadline for proposals for Grundtvig actions is January 16th 2010. See the full call for proposals. All other actions are financed (in the UK) via Ecotec. "Clinks Volunteering Guides Clinks has published a series of guides designed to support organisations in their day-to-day work with offenders. The guides have been developed with the expertise of Volunteering England, Charities Evaluation Services, and the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation. Targeted at those who involve volunteers, or provide mentoring and befriending services to offenders and ex-offenders, these guides are designed to support any organisation whether they are already established or just setting up."

What is STAN? STAN is a membership network for second tier advisors in London. Who can join? - £35 per year though... Membership is open to all second tier advisors working in greater London. When we say 'second tier advisor' we mean anyone who spends the majority of their work time advising voluntary and community organisations: You might be a Small Groups Development Worker, a Capacity Builder or a specialist Funding Advisor - no matter what your job title you are welcome to join. We also accept membership from those who aren't advisors but who might be interested in second tier advice; for example Grants Officers, Managers and Training Officers. These individuals are classified as 'STAN Friends' and can access all the network's services apart from some advisors only Learning Sessions. Membership of STAN is on an individual basis and costs £35 per organisation per year.

Supported by The City Bridge Trust, over the last year SEL has run an innovative programme of support with 36 organisations to enable them to develop financially sustainable practices. How is our organisation going to adapt to changing climates in the future? Don't know? - well why not use the 'Scenarios' process, to develop a positive outlook to the future, a negative outlook and a neutral outlook. Bring on board the factors that contribute and affect the dynamics in your area of discpline or expertise and see how you could plan for the challenges which the three scenario paths present.

The range and quantity of legislation affecting the voluntary sector makes it difficult to keep up to date with the obligations placed on voluntary organisations. Whether taking on staff, leasing premises, tendering for service contracts, taking out insurance, operating as a charity or changing the organisation's legal structure, staff and committee members need to understand the law.
