Experience Eugene - Your connection to the community! - 2 views

  •
It's a resource to find music concerts and performances, theatre events, festivals, art events, recreations events, fundraising events, sporting events, and community events in Eugene
  •
This website is absolutely FANTASTIC! I honestly have had a hard time fulfilling my role as a community member since moving to Eugene. A came here not knowing a single person and starting to attend community events is something I am really looking forward to doing. This really will help me further connect with the community. I also loved that the site did not just have one genre of arts to attend but a multitude of them as well as recreation. All combined together to help express and allow submergence into Eugene culture.

Nike.inc Saving Our Earth - 1 views

From Nike's project, we can see that even though they have successfully sold their products to people. Nevertheless, when shoes got beat up, people usually just throw it away. Fortunately, Nike has collected shoes for reuse and build couple public facility. This is type of work that working with community and society, which we talked about during the lecture.

This is really cool considering the PR associated with Nike and their impact economically.
  •
I love Nike! and you should watch this video too! The video is about how Nike transforms recycled bottles into jerseys. http://globalgrind.com/2012/04/17/nike-lightest-environmentally-friendly-soccer-jerseys-photos/

I really think this project is awesome. I never thought about recycling worn out dirty shoes, but this is definitely a good idea. My nephew plays soccer and he throws away 2-3 sports shoes every year (which is a lot!!), so I always thought it will be great if there's a way to recycle shoes. I hope more companies or organizations start this kind of projects to save earth.
  •
I think this is a great idea. I would love to know more about it. There is not much other information about it on the internet besides what is in the video. Does anyone know if Nike donates these courts or fields? That would be a great way to give back to the community.
  •
I really like this a lot. This is good for Nike public relations wise and it is smart economically as well. Nike being a progressive company is a positive for everyone involved.

Red Rocks Amphitheater in Golden, Colorado - 0 views

If you think of Red Rocks Park as just a beautiful place to see a concert, think again! Around you are 868 acres of deer, dinosaurs, pines and prairie, geological wonders and spectacular vistas. At 6,450 feet above sea level, Red Rocks Park is a unique transitional zone where the Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains. The diverse environment allows visitors to see plants, birds and animals of both regions. Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a geological phenomenon - the only naturally-occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheatre in the world. Photo Independent Art Fair - 0 views

  •
Flag The Photo Independent Art Fair debuts this year, occupying Raleigh Studios as a kind of unofficial neighbor/partner to Paris Photo L.A., which is happening the same weekend at nearby Paramount Studios. But Photo Independent is far more than a shadow fair. Conceived as an artist-centered counterpart, it's dedicated to working directly with photographers who wish to present their work in a more in-depth context. While the program is international, expect a robust presence of locally based artists, many of whom, as the title implies, are operating independently from the gallery system, embracing the opportunity to take their case straight to the visually curious public. It's Hollywood, after all, a place where everyone dreams of being discovered..

The End Of An Era For Waikiki - 0 views

  •
This link is an article about the decision to close down the International Market place in the heart of downtown Waikiki, O'ahu, and transforming the space into a high end retail, Sak's Fifth. Being a frequent visitor to the islands, I find this news pretty sad. I have visited the International market every time I have been downtown to Waikiki because of how unique everything was. There were tons of kiosks with hand-made and high quality products and you could bargain with the owners. It really was a fun experience and allowed for a bunch of people to display and sell their distinct art. "The start of the new year marked the end of an era in Honolulu. By the time you read this the International Market Place, the last truly open green space for commerce in the heart of Waikiki, will be closed for good. It will be replaced by a ..."

Founded in 1846, the Smithsonian is the world's largest museum and research complex, consisting of 19 museums and galleries, the National Zoological Park, and nine research facilities.

I visited the Smithsonian museums when I was in 8th grade and still have very distinct memories from the trip! Loved all the history you are surrounded by. Great place to visit within your lifetime.

When I was younger I visited the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. I believe it was then that sparked my interest in aerial vehicles that I have had and continued to have today. I have the arts and cultural world to thank for that.

Science Reveals Artists Really Do Have Different Brains - 0 views

  •
We might now have neurological proof that artists actually are different creatures from everyone else on the planet. According to a study published in Neurolmage, researchers believe that artists have brains that are structurally different from non-artists. It appears that there's now justifiable support for the idiom "she's just wired differently, idk."

Acker Night Showcase Scholarships Program. Providing for and keeping the Arts alive in our schools

This is a musical event that usually takes place on the first week of December as a celebration to welcome Christmas. I lived in Prescott AZ 5 years ago and have been to this event for two different year. Most of the store in downtown have a local music group playing for almost 6 hours that day. The idea is to let people know about the group and bring support and possible donation for them. There are some great music and downtown just feels like a big caroling festival.

Pier-2 Art Center-About Pier-2 - 0 views

  •
Pier-2 means the second transport pier. Located within the third ship trench in Kaohsiung harbor and built in 1973, it was originally a general purpose harbor warehouse. In 2000, this space full of experimental possibilities was discovered when authority was looking for a space to set up firecrackers for the Independence Day celebration.
  •
This is the best translation website I can found. I'm not sure if this is appropriate to share something in another country, but I just found this place interesting to share. Even though the website do not have complete translation but there are brief idea about this place. It is an abandon warehouse that is turn into a showcase center. I have been to this place many times and every time they have a different exhibition going on. And the shop and park around has been decorated into a really inspiriting place for arts.
